I keep trying to connect my iPhone to my Ubuntu 10.10 machine, and it keeps denying me from mounting it! I want to transfer my songs I have downloaded on the Ubuntu One Music Store to my iPhone!
View 7 RepliesIphone 4.2.6 and ubuntu. I have upgraded to natty and have Banshee running and am able to mount my iphone and see my files etc in a file browser. I can even see my music on the iphone inside Banshee. It lets me copy music from my machine to the iphone but never shows up on the ipod on the iphone. I can browse the folders and find the music but its saved as libgpodxxxxx.mp3. The xs are numbers. They are all in folders on the iphone called itunes_controlmusicfxx where x again are numbers. They play fine from the iphone if you highlight them in the file manager or in banshee.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDecided to migrate my laptop entirely to ubuntu 9.10 karmic, Everything has gone well.Managed to sort my home network out and also setup a remote desktop connection to home server running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.I am having a complete nightmare with my iphone, I can plug it in and I get a camera icon on my desktop and the picture directory is mounted.I cannot connect it to GTKPod.I have tried searching for the usb rules in /etc/fstab/ but I am confused as to wether its reading it or my usb?dmesg produces this?

With Lucid Lynx, connecting is now a sintch. Obviously someone had the great idea of making another iPhone, thus making me spend more money. Question is: anyone have any problems connecting to Lucid with their new iPhone 4? I'd like to know about technical problems, if there are any, or good experiences in bringing music or (insert other functionality here) from Ubuntu into the iPhone.

I don't have a password on the phone, so that shouldn't be causing the problem, and a friend of mine who also uses Ubuntu (same version) has been able to connect my phone to his computer.

When I connect via usb I can open a file browser window and see the folders on the iPhone but not the files. Also the system suggests using the photo manager and banshee to view the files but when I open them I still can't see the files. Can anyone recommend an app to open, view and manage files on an iPhone?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI remember it being really easy to add a printer attached to another computer using Ubuntu, but I don't remember exactly what made it so easy. All I know is that now that I have switched to Kubuntu the process has become much harder because now I have to find out some special locations, numbers etc. for it to connect to the printer. It's connected to a Windows XP machine on the other side of the house.
It says alot about 'contacting the network administrator' if I am unsure about what to put in. But I am more or less the network administrator. how to find out what numbers to put in so that my Linux machine can connect and print to the Windows machine? Or maybe someone knows a few commands to share? I go to Applications > Settings > System settings, Printer configuration, New Printer, New Network printer, and then there are a few options but I don't know which one to choose. Windows Printer via Samba, I guess? Then in the box that says smb://[enter stuff here] I need to put in info but I don't know how to find that info.
This is on Lucid, using a Dell Mini. I installed the required packages for a USB tether to my iPhone. Network Manager recognized it immediately as wwan0, but it doesn't connect. Also, it never asks me for the password to connect to the Personal Hotspot (as it does when I can connect from Windows).

Currently setup instructions are only posted for windows/mac using a helper app to configure the laptop. Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:
a) SSID = "iPhoneModem"
b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)
Connect laptop and iphone to new wireless network. Start iphonemodem app on iphone. The "traffic" does not update; the "status" says "Wrong Wifi Network"; and the signal strength says 0%. However, the network connection should be there as long as you have a data signal to your service provider.

I can't connect a printer to my machine that's running Ubuntu 10.04 because it's outdated; however, I have another computer (Mac) that has a printer attached to it. Does anyone know how I can connect to that computer form my Ubuntu machine and send over documents to be printed on my Mac? Maybe through a remote desktop? Or SSL?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed XRDP on my home machine, made sure the service was running, NAT'ed ports 3350 and 3389 TCP to the machine in my router and punched corresponding holes through Guarddog on these ports on the machine as well, but connecting with: rdesktop -f "my IP here" from my workplace doesn't work. I get "unable to connect".
I have a feeling, it's still the firewall. Do I need to tick permitting the rdesktop protocol in both the "local" and the "Internet" zone or do I need to also establish specific custom rules?
I am having problems connecting to my Fedora machine wirelessly. What i mean is that if i try to access samba \192.168.1.93 rb while connected to my wireless network i can't connect.The only way I can connect to this machine is if i connect my laptop directly into the router then i can successfully connect.Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Normally one can connect to the machine by using putty with the machine's name or IP-Address. But to this machine one can't connect it with it's name. Something should wrong.

My sid machine currently can't access debian.org, through apt hitting the repositories, surfing through Epiphany or Iceweasel, or pinging the server directly. It was working fine until about four days ago. However, if I type in the IP address, I can access the website, so it must be some sort of DNS issue. My home server, running Squeeze, can access debian.org just fine. Any suggestions for how to fix it?
