I've been looking around at how to set up a VPN server on an Ubuntu box that I can connect to from wherever from an iPhone.What I'm looking for is something like this: [URL]but it did not work (Connecting errored out).I've heard of OpenVPN, but will that allow me to directly connect from my iPhone to my home network?
View 3 RepliesI've searched through google, and all I can find are instructions on how to set up a L2TP/IPSec VPN that works with macs and iPhones. I'm NOT trying to set up an L2TP/IPSec VPN. I'm trying to set up a pure-ipsec vpn.
The iPhone IPSec client is a built-in cisco client, I believe. I'm staying away from L2TP and PPTP because I need multicast packets to go through. *edit: wow, i just noticed that the title says "8.10 LTS". Oops! I obviously mean "8.04 LTS". Gah, the lack of sleep got to me.
My world of open source collided sharply with my current phone (from a company named after fruit). It's closed source is making me crazy. I was shipped one with an os that is laborious to jail break - so for now I am looking for a work around. Anyone have any luck setting up the nx web companion and using it on the phones browser? Ububtu 10.04 64 bit.

I understand how to allow users to connect to the linux box using NFS, what I am confused on is how to connect the SAN to the linux box. If this linux server was a virtual machine, I would just add a HD on the VM then partition, then share it using NFS. Since it is a physical box, I am missing how you would connect the SAN to the NFS server.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used windows OS and installed Ubuntu 10.04 (amd64) in separate partition and works well but had a problem in internet connectivity. Likely reason may be the proxy setting that we used in college (currently). I used this commands to set up the IP address and gateway.
ifconfig -a | grep eth

sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.5.209 netmask 255.255.255.0

Then I manually set the proxy setting of HTTP which is given as proxy server 192.168.5.2 and port as 8000, further more there is a wins setting which is 192.168.1.178, really don't know where to put this number.
Decided to migrate my laptop entirely to ubuntu 9.10 karmic, Everything has gone well.Managed to sort my home network out and also setup a remote desktop connection to home server running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.I am having a complete nightmare with my iphone, I can plug it in and I get a camera icon on my desktop and the picture directory is mounted.I cannot connect it to GTKPod.I have tried searching for the usb rules in /etc/fstab/ but I am confused as to wether its reading it or my usb?dmesg produces this?

With Lucid Lynx, connecting is now a sintch. Obviously someone had the great idea of making another iPhone, thus making me spend more money. Question is: anyone have any problems connecting to Lucid with their new iPhone 4? I'd like to know about technical problems, if there are any, or good experiences in bringing music or (insert other functionality here) from Ubuntu into the iPhone.

When I connect via usb I can open a file browser window and see the folders on the iPhone but not the files. Also the system suggests using the photo manager and banshee to view the files but when I open them I still can't see the files. Currently setup instructions are only posted for windows/mac using a helper app to configure the laptop. Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:

b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)

I'd like to be able to use my iPhone use my server for sending and retrieving mail, but I guess I just don't understand what's required. For example, I add a new account on my iphone for an imap account and add the host name under incoming and outgoing mail server, but the account verification just times out. I can't send or receive mail. Clearly there's more to it than I understand. Is there a setup guide somewhere or can someone advise how to set this up?

As shown in the image,our lab get the connection from the 'Green-line'.Other network has the IPs 192.168.2.XXX and in our LAN we were given 192.168.1.XXX range. We use Debian server with DNS/DHCP for MAC->IP assignment and name resolution. We can connect to the internet without any problem. My problem is: We can connect (SSH,ping) to the machines with 192.168.2.XXX IPs ,but from that hosts its not possible to connect to our LAN.

I recently used this process to connect my Samba network to be able to access and allow Windows XP machines to access my computer on my office network.
For various reasons, all the XP computers on the network are set to fixed (do we say static?) IP addresses with manual DNS. Hence I realised during the Samba setup that I had to set a static IP on my Ubuntu machine similar to my Windows static IP's (ie 192.168.10.?) in order to be able to see the Windows share PC's properly.
Once I set my Ubuntu machine to static IP of 192.168.10.3 with subnet of 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.0.1 then I was able to access and be accessed by PC's on the network. However I couldn't access the internet after this. I input the DNS server in the edit connections as you can see per the attachment. All these settings (except the IP address obviously) were all now exactly the same as the PC machines, and I thought I'd now be able to access the windows network, as well as have access to the internet, however, even though my wired network is connected there is still no internet access.
I'm using the GUI under network connections to make all these changes if that is important. I can't understand why this doesn't work?
I like to run a mySql database server on a Ubuntu (which is no server) for local use only. Is there some instruction how to do this? I downloaded several DBMS but they all seem to assume a running server.
