Ubuntu :: IPhone With 10.04 - Doesn't Seem To Be Detecting When Connect
Apr 20, 2011
I'm having some trouble using my iPhone 3Gs with Ubuntu--specifically, Ubuntu doesn't seem to be detecting when I connect the phone at all. I don't have a password on the phone, so that shouldn't be causing the problem, and a friend of mine who also uses Ubuntu (same version) has been able to connect my phone to his computer.

This is on Lucid, using a Dell Mini. I installed the required packages for a USB tether to my iPhone. Network Manager recognized it immediately as wwan0, but it doesn't connect. Also, it never asks me for the password to connect to the Personal Hotspot (as it does when I can connect from Windows).

With Lucid Lynx, connecting is now a sintch. Obviously someone had the great idea of making another iPhone, thus making me spend more money. Question is: anyone have any problems connecting to Lucid with their new iPhone 4? I'd like to know about technical problems, if there are any, or good experiences in bringing music or (insert other functionality here) from Ubuntu into the iPhone.

I have an iPhone 3GS with Firmware 3.1.3 and I'd like to sync the music over rhythmbox in lucid (64bit).
The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.
I thought I'd ask after having waited several weeks and none of the gvfsd updates changed anything

I've just come back to Linux running Ubuntu 11.04 and need to find an app to manage files on an iPhone 4. When I connect via usb I can open a file browser window and see the folders on the iPhone but not the files. Also the system suggests using the photo manager and banshee to view the files but when I open them I still can't see the files. Can anyone recommend an app to open, view and manage files on an iPhone?

This will allow you to use iphones' data plan as a wireless access point. Currently setup instructions are only posted for windows/mac using a helper app to configure the laptop. Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:
a) SSID = "iPhoneModem"
b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)
Connect laptop and iphone to new wireless network. Start iphonemodem app on iphone. The "traffic" does not update; the "status" says "Wrong Wifi Network"; and the signal strength says 0%. However, the network connection should be there as long as you have a data signal to your service provider.

I decided to try connecting my iPhone to see if it played as nice with Lucid as everyone was saying. It did, it worked fine. However now I have the final release installed (I did a fresh install the day of the release) and haven't tried connecting my iPhone until today, and now... nothing. No pop ups, nothing shows up on the Desktop, Places menu, or in "Computer". I opened both Banshee and Rhythmbox and it doesn't show up, however if I open Shotwell Photo Manager it shows Apple iPhone 3G (PTP Mode) at the bottom, although I can't access it. I'm not sure what PTP mode is or whether or not it has anything to do with my problem. Does anyone know what the problem could be? The iPhone shows that it is connected on it's screen so something must be happening but Ubutnu just can't see it.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, and my iPod doesn't seem to connect to the computer, when the iPod is connected and the computer is on before the OS loads, it says its connected, but once it starts booting, no connection. This isn't an iPod Touch or an iPhone, both of which work properly on the machine, ironically.

Just installed 10.04 on a Toshiba Portege laptop. Everything works fine except the LAN connection. Just doesn't connect. Based on what I know everything is on and enabled but no luck. The wireless works fin but can't connect to the network in my office through the standard cable. Installed the same operating system on a newer Toshiba (the second is my but the older one is a friends) and no issues at all. Wondering if it is a driver issue but can't figure it out. Am relatively new to Ubuntu but so far have found it easy to troubleshoot just reading posts and just trying out **** until it works. But this I've hit a brick wall.
Also ran in to a similar issue my work pc, except I had been working with it fine with 10.04 until I did a security update and puff... no more network. The eth1 connection is enabled and set to automatic but just can't connect to it. Sorry if I'm not providing enough info, just tell me if there is anything you need to know first and I'll post it.

System:
Ubuntu 9.04
OpenSSH 5.1p1
I recently set up SFTP on my server and in doing so wanted to create a jail for users. I went through the steps and edited the sshd_config accordingly and got everything to work perfectly. However since doing so I can no longer ssh to that machine as I once was able to do. SFTP and the jail work fine however if I comment out ChrootDirectory /home/%u and ForceCommand internal-sftp in the sshd_config; I can now ssh to that machine however the jail no longer works. I need to be able to have the jail working properly for SFTP along with being able to ssh to that machine. Is this possiblesshd_config: Jail works for SFTP but no ssh

# See the sshd( manpage for details

I installed Ubuntu in dual boot with Vista on my PC. First run was OK: Ubuntu started internet connection on my eth0 cable and everything worked smoothly. Then Ubuntu asked me for an update of system: after software download and reboot,th0 is not recognized anymore! I can't connect to internet, neither with Firefox neither with Synaptic.Everything is OK with Vista and internet works well from live cd (and all was ok before updating operating system). I read something around about dns problem (I have a belkin modem router) but I wasn't able to understand how to solve the problem,

I wanted to test 10.04 and downloaded Wubi to do so. Normal setup, it automatically picked the 64-bit version. After booting into Wubi, installing my ATI drivers and restarting it did no longer connect to my ethernet. A few reboots didn't help so I went back to Windows for troubleshooting.
However now Windows doesn't connect to the ethernet either. It's plain dead, Windows doesn't find any connections and the modem doesn't light the Ethernet cable LED. The modem itself works fine with wireless devices. I have now tried everything including uninstalling Ubuntu, system restore, driver rollback, driver update, BIOS default settings, a different cable, a different modem etc.
This is a 64-bit specific issue because I tested the 32-bit version of Wubi 10.04 a few months ago without problems.
Windows 7 x64
Wubi 10.04 x64
Gigabyte P55-UD3 with onboard Realtek RTL8111D LAN.
I'd like to get out of this without Ubuntu effectively having broken my hardware and my trust in it.

I've just upgraded my old laptop from xubuntu to ubuntu 10.10 and I have some connectivity problems with my usb adapter Netgear WG111v3. On xubuntu I had no problems with connecting on the network but with ubuntu, it says I have good reception but it doesn't connect on the network (rarely it does, but for a very short time). I have another laptop currently running on ubuntu 10.04 and it has no problems at all (however it has an internal usb card).
