I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit and have Virtualbox (not OSE)with Windows 7 64bit installed. I am unable to get my Zune 80 to sync with the Zune software as an error comes up when I plug in my Zune saying that the device driver was not properly installed. I have tried reinstalling the Zune software and that didn't help either

I am trying to convert music in wma format that I purchased on Zune to mp3 format so that I can play it in Rhythm Box and use it on a SanDisk Fuze that I recently purchased. I installed Sound Convert. Sound Convert works fine when converting wma files that were created from ripping CD's. However, it freezes when trying to convert wma files that were purchased from Zune. Also if I try to double click on one of the wma files to play it with movie player, I get an error message saying that the file is encrypted and decryption is not supported.
I did find a converter on Windows that works. However, it was a trial version that only converts 90 secs. The full version costs $25. I do not feel that I should have to pay for music that I have already paid for. The music was purchased a la carte from Zune (not with the monthly pass). Does anyone know of a workaround to free my Zune music so I can access it on Ubuntu?
I seem to have an issue with my nvidia drivers again.I get them working, then the next lot of updates to fedora seems to revert any progress I've made.Currently I can't run any 3d accelerated applications, no wine, no games etc, I have followed the documentation, installed the driver, added the blackist to noveau into boot.conf, and restarted

I'm rather new to linux and I am trying to set up two linux servers to do MySQL replication. I believe to do this you need to have a file called my.cnf in /etc/ but this file isn't there I have tried un-installing and installing MySQL many times but this file still doesn't appear.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently switched over to Ubuntu 11.04. I installed Natty by wiping out Maverick entirely. Everything worked well, until I tried to install ATI graphics drivers through the instructions found here: [URL] The installation goes fine without any errors; however, when I reboot, nothing shows up on the screen. I can hear Ubuntu's startup sounds, but there are no visuals. When I attempt to go to the ATI Catalyst Control Center in Recovery Mode, I get this error:

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling these drivers multiple times, and I've also tried using the generic driver detected by "Additional Drivers". None of these work at all, I cannot see anything on the screen when any ATI drivers are enabled. I've even tried re-updating Natty via CD, but none of this works. I have a Radeon HD 3450 graphics card, and my CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5400+. I'm on 64 bit Ubuntu. I had no problems with my drivers on Maverick.
I have an hp pavilion 15-b106ed with UEFI. I disabled secure boot and installed debian jessie form the CD1 iso (RC1 installer) burned to an USB key. Installation went smoothly, but after rebooting I get grub's terminal-like screen saying:
"GNU GRUB version 2.02 beta2-9ubuntu1. Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported... etc"
The problem is that as soon as I turn on the computer that grub screen shows up and I can't boot from USB anymore nor
access the BIOS settings, no matter how fast I press F9, F10 and such. I guess I have to tell him to boot from the USB using the grub terminal...
I installed debian and want to install compiz (properly).Read this thread Compiz and followed the instruction to install the packages. It mentions xorg.conf which does not exist where it tells me to look.I can type "compiz --replace" and it does do something but all the window borders disappear. I tried compiz setting manager - still same problem.And no visual effects (presumably due to missing xorg.conf)
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing 11.4/LXDE which comes with FF 4 Beta, The openSUSE Flash Plugin package was automatically installed, but doesn't seem to be installed into FF properly. When FF > Addons is opened, no Flash plugin is listed. If you then attempt to install install Flash from Adobe, Adobe doesn't seem to recognize FF 4 as a supported browser.
On top of that, if you visit the nVidia site to explore OEM display drivers, their site is Flash driven and won't permit driver searching, must less browsing and possible downloading. This was important to me to try to obtain the OEM nVidia Configuration Manager which vastly enhances display management, particularly on the somewhat lean LXDE desktop.
There are many Zune threads - all stating that zune won't work with ubuntu - so I get that. But I am curious... Why can I mount the zune player and see the files on the zune - and then when I try to add to the zune or remove them get an error message. Ubuntu can see what is on the Zune, so why can't it copy/erase the files?

i upgraded my System from Fedora 11 to Fedora 13. My graphics driver crashed (graphics-card: radeon hd-4-series) and i couldn't even start. I managed to reset the driver and now Fedora ist booting again, but it isn't working properly:

My monitor kept powering down after 20 minutes so I installed Gnome-power-manager by yum so that I could change the settings. After the installation and every time I try to use it I get a message saying:

I'm now unable to effect a change in the power settings and the display keeps turning off.
1) Is someone able to post their config file from a working F12 install? I believe it's /etc/dbus-1/system.d/gnome-power-manager.conf but not certain as I don't have one ;-)
2) ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-power-manager/%gconf.xml is empty - is it empty for someone with a working install?
3) how I can change the power settings without the gui - I'm googling on this point and will post the answer as and when I find it.

After 10 minutes of trying to mount my zune, I finally got it, only to open rhythem box to find that I can't view the music on it, or write new music to it. (It does have music on it, nearly 30 gigs of music, its also assigned to my windows computer that I dont use anymore). Sorry for the file being a jpe, but the fedora forums seem to hate high resolution, full desktop, PNG screenshots, so I edited it down and made it a jpe.

My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 which appears to be running properly with some limitations (missing effects from CompizConfig). While utilizing the "Hardware Drivers" configuration a recommended driver is listed but when I attempt to activate this driver I encounter an error.
This error turns my attention to the log file :
This log file is extensive and I do not wish to post pages of code unless requested. The configuration does however list that "a different driver is in use". I have scoured threads to ensure that I have not posted a question that has been answered to no avail. Please bear in mind that I am in my Linux infancy and my grasp of this incredible operating system is cursory at best.
I have installed and removed the Nvidia Drivers via System>Admin>Additional drivers. The dialog tells me that the Current driver is Activated but no in use. I can't seem to find the way to get the driver in use.I'm running 11.04.

This page says that it should work with the ar9170usb driver, and that this driver is already part of the mainline Linux kernel as of 2.6.30. It also noted that ar9170usb does not claim this device's USB-ID at this time.
How do I (a) get this driver to recognize and work with my WNA-1000 under 9.10?
(b) get this driver installed and working under the older versions of Ubuntu that I also have?
I'm using Epson TX110 printer at the moment, it contains both scanner and printer.
I've installed Epson TX109 driver on Ubuntu, and it prints fine.
The problem is, how do I get the scanner to work? In the previous Windows, there's a program that allows you to scan and edit files, can I do it here too?
I have a Zotac IONITX-F-E motherboard (Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 GHz + Nvidia ION) -based box with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit installed. My goal is to play back 1080p video. I read somewhere that the nouveau driver that installs by default with ubuntu 10.04 does not support VDPAU. So, my first step is to install the nVidia proprietary driver. I tried following a half-dozen different guides for doing this, none of which worked. Let's take this one for example: [URL] I purge. I reboot. I run the Nvidia installer (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.24-pkg2.run). I get:

So, I run: Code: sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 nvidia-185-modaliases I try the nvidia installer again. It works. I reboot. I get a message saying that ubuntu is running in low graphics mode, because loading the nvidia kernel module failed. I check /var/log/messages and see: Code: API mismatch: the client has version 195.36.24 but the kernel module has version 195.36.15. I take a Tylenol and here I am.
Since the last driver error I had posted the thread was starting to drift WELL off the original issue so now I am opening a new thread since it IS a whole different problem in general;So, I was having issues with my driver not being enabled. After I installed it manually it appeared to be correct how-ever when I ttried to enable special effects, and compiz, it didn't work.And even after a correct installation of the driver some windows when they pop up look like static then appear.Graphics card is an:nVidia 6150SE onboard card.I know it can handle compiz, and effects, because it did before on the other version of ubuntu I had.

I finally found the windows inf and sys driver files, and learned how to get ndiswrapper without internet and installed the driver. It says that i have the hardware it controls, but when I look at the connection icon, it says not connected, has lost the wireless connection block, and I am not connected to the internet. The wireless is called USB Wireless 802.11 b/g , but it is not usb and is plugged straight into the motherboard with the only physical part is the antenna. Why can't I connect?
