Aug 22, 2010There are many Zune threads - all stating that zune won't work with ubuntu - so I get that. But I am curious... Why can I mount the zune player and see the files on the zune - and then when I try to add to the zune or remove them get an error message. Ubuntu can see what is on the Zune, so why can't it copy/erase the files?

Jul 11, 2010To Ubuntu after switching from Windows Vista. So far I really like it. I am trying to convert music in wma format that I purchased on Zune to mp3 format so that I can play it in Rhythm Box and use it on a SanDisk Fuze that I recently purchased. I installed Sound Convert. Sound Convert works fine when converting wma files that were created from ripping CD's. However, it freezes when trying to convert wma files that were purchased from Zune. Also if I try to double click on one of the wma files to play it with movie player, I get an error message saying that the file is encrypted and decryption is not supported.
I did find a converter on Windows that works. However, it was a trial version that only converts 90 secs. The full version costs $25. I do not feel that I should have to pay for music that I have already paid for. The music was purchased a la carte from Zune (not with the monthly pass). Does anyone know of a workaround to free my Zune music so I can access it on Ubuntu?

Jan 26, 2011I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit and have Virtualbox (not OSE)with Windows 7 64bit installed. I am unable to get my Zune 80 to sync with the Zune software as an error comes up when I plug in my Zune saying that the device driver was not properly installed. I have tried reinstalling the Zune software and that didn't help either

Jun 30, 2010After 10 minutes of trying to mount my zune, I finally got it, only to open rhythem box to find that I can't view the music on it, or write new music to it. (It does have music on it, nearly 30 gigs of music, its also assigned to my windows computer that I dont use anymore). Sorry for the file being a jpe, but the fedora forums seem to hate high resolution, full desktop, PNG screenshots, so I edited it down and made it a jpe.

Oct 18, 2010im using ubuntu 10.10 on a dell e1505 laptop with a x1400 graphics card. 2.5 gb ram and a core 2 duo 1.83. i also dual boot vista for lightroom only. my huge problem is that every music player i try doesnt work correctly in some way. ive tried amarok, banshee, rhythmbox, songbird (wine), exail, one with a name that started with a "g" and was long and strange. i forget the name now. i think i tried a few others too. i also have about 40k songs but ive only loaded my entire library into rhythmbox. the others i just tried with one cd.
my problem is that they either crash right away, things dont work such as the eq, or they freeze the entire pc. rhythmbox is the best i can do and it freezes my entire pc after about an hour of use...sometimes quicker.something that could possibly be of importance...i could not get 10.04 to work with my external monitor on this pc. it made the entire screen very wiggly looking. 10.10 solved that. though it does flicker every once in awhile.please tell me there is some way i can fix this...i really dont want to go back to vista.

May 29, 2010I decided to try kubuntu after reading over the webs. I got lastest 10.04 release of kubuntu installed (downloaded yesterday).
So far i dont seem to get any mediaplayer to work correctly with video files (avi's and Video_ts.ifo's). I've tried:
- built in Dragon
- Vlc
- mplayer and kmplayer/smplayer
- xine
The result is as follows
- Dragon plays only Dvd's "vob" files but cannot switch audio or subtitles
- vlc wont open ANYTHING at all
- mplayer crashes on anything as well
- xine will play some videos as dragon but wont play vob files (no "muxer")
At first i installed recommended stuff to play mp3's. When i tried to watch films or dvd's i couldnt do it with Dragon so i tried to install so advertised VLC. I did, and when i open ANY file in VLC, it closes itself. Just closes. Or on rare occasions (when opening some of dvd's files) it just opens a big black screen and reverts to starting small state w/o screen or file opened. I can even sometimes see the first picture from the video blink before it closes. I couldnt get ANY file to play on VLC not even an mp3...
I then installed some packages that told they contain codecs to play alot of formats, and package for "encoded dvd's" - nothing.
After that i've seen that now i can play some videos (avi's and stuff) and even DVD's with built in Dragon video player, but dragon cannot understand subtitles or different audio streams. I tried mplayer and Xine with no luck as well.
Now since its not a problem of one player, but i cannot get to play video_ts.ifo files at all and cannot get vlc and mplayer to play anything at all, there must be something i am doing wrong.

May 14, 2011I'm trying to watch a DVD video using Movie Player, but nothing happens. It asked for a MPEG-2 decoder but then said Gstream already had the decoder. But to be sure I hunted down some rpm files with a free MPEG-2 decoder and installed them. Nothing happened. Before that, Movie Player asked for an Advanced Stream Format Demuxer. Then it told me it was already installed. I tried to uninstall Gstream. Maybe it was installed badly for reasons unknown, but the uninstaller warned that it would take 50 files with it.
I got the impression it was daring me to uninstall Gstream, so I chickened out. But I am upset now. This problem has wasted half of my Saturday day off and it is still not solved. I forgot to say I had also installed libdvdcss, in desperation. Nothing happened. This computer does display DVD videos with Movie Player using a different distro. I'm not surprised Fedora has problems. But you figure by 2011, watching a DVD video should be no problem by now in any distribution.

Some have said that should look in the repository only to find out that the repository would correctly be named the software center and that it has no files named flash or adobe. I installed flash from adobe directly but it did not work. I am using 32bit Ubuntu.

Also is the source and slackbuild going to be on the slackbuild website so I can download it? The reason I ask the last question is because I tried to install swiftfox and opera but they don't have the source or slackbuild for them. Jul 12, 2010Since I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.

Apr 29, 2011I'm trying to test out Natty to see if I want to run with Unity. I'm not interested in wiping my production machine just to play with it. So this will be a VM install only for now.
So far, not a single alpha or beta nor even the final allows me to run unity. My hardware is perfectly capable (allegedly) of running Unity. The machine is only 6 months old.
I tried the Unity test script in Natty, and it tells me "no" but it also is telling me the wrong video card info. (apparently it is reading virtual hardware, not the real thing)
So how do I get VMWare Player to report or use my actual hardware, or for Natty to "see" the real card? Is this possible? If not, how in the world does ANYONE test Unity without actually installing it on a gamble? (note, a liveCD won't work because with an nVidia card, I have to install proprietary drivers which require a restart - Chicken, meet Egg.)
