i upgraded my System from Fedora 11 to Fedora 13. My graphics driver crashed (graphics-card: radeon hd-4-series) and i couldn't even start. I managed to reset the driver and now Fedora ist booting again, but it isn't working properly:

I have wheezy up to date and the xserver-xorg-video-radeon package is at version 6.14.2-1. I am using the linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64 package as well for the kernel. When I boot, it stays on the tty1 console and I can't start gdm3 manually (it also doesn't start automatically).

Because my 4890, which worked well with f13, died and now i need an new card to play games on windows. But i would like to use f13 also.
I`m using a N5010 dell laptop with an Ati Radeon mobility 5650, I tried to install the ati drivers on F14 which caused a black login screen and there is no way to open the console and do anything. On top of that I`m using Ubuntus Grub2 so I`m practically stuck.
View 7 Replies View RelatedYesterday I updated my F15 x86_64 system from kernel 2.6.38.6-27 to 2.6.38.8-35. After the reboot, my triple-head system complained of not having enough CRTCs and only 2 screens worked. Other components were also updated, including some X11 components, however selecting a fallback kernel at the grub prompt indicates this follows the kernel (fall back to old kernel has all 3 monitors working). xrandr --verbose on the 2.6.38.6-27 kernel shows each of the 3 monitors assigned to separate CRTC entries, with CRTCs 0 thru 5 available.
Same command on the new 2.6.38.8-35 system only shows CRTCs 0 & 1 available. My system using an XFX Radeon HD5450 card, with 3 interfaces: HDMI, DVI, VGA. The default Fedora open source "radeon" driver allows all 3 interfaces to be usable. However, with the new kernel, the loss of several CRTCs prevents the 3rd monitor from working.What are the thoughts from the community? I've searched various forums here and haven't seen similar symptoms reported. I'm looking for any direction/experience/thingsToTry from others before trying to open a bug report. (Attempts to use the Catalyst driver several months ago resulted in only 2 of the 3 connected monitors working.
I have been trying to install the FGLRX driver for a Radeon HD 4850. According to this page and others on the web, it says that Xorg 7.5 isn't supported by the driver. I was just wondering is it possible to install Xorg 7.4 on Fedora 12, if not what release of Fedora should I use (i.e does Fedora 11 support Xorg 7.4?)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running fedora 12 64-bit with XFCE desktop. Updated to firefox 3.5.9 yesterday and that hasn't solved my issue... Just recently it is SO slow. I would even say its on ie standards I sometimes sit with pages "loading" only to find that the url soon changes to "search history and bookmarks" and the bottom left corner message says "stopped" - its most unreliable. at first i thought it was my sometimes dodgy internet connection but i have done several speed tests and after waiting ages for the page to load, the speed test comes up with about 2Mbps. This speed is not translated to the speed firefox is loading pages - several times i've had to stop all tabs loading and then reload them just because firefox seems to have forgotten its meant to be looking on the internet and "thinks" putting a message "loading" in the tab will do
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with Fedora 11 and audio. I have pulse audio running and configured. The volume control on the top panel (GDE) works properly, but i do not hear any volume until I move it up past 50%. I tested it with the advanced volume controls opened and it even shows the master volume not moving until the volume slider on the panel reaches at least 50%. Can anybody help with fixing this. It is very annoying. Thanks in advance for the support.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently using Fedora 11 KDE as my primary operating system at work, but i am having a little bit of troubles getting an audio player to work properly. I am trying to play music off of a separate primary FAT32 file system (which is my shared drive amongst all my operating systems), but when i attempt to load the files via JuK, i receive this error: cannot find demultiplexer plugin for MRL.
I have been playing around with other players as well, and it seems like the only other player which will actually load up the media on this separate partition is Banshee, but doesn't seem to want to play it.
I recently acquired a Gateway with a Radeon video adapter in it.I've tried both the proprietary and open drivers.I've followed the installation instructions here: https:[url]........to no avail. I know that my video adapter is compatible with Ubuntu, because I have seen the explode/fade effect on launcher buttons -- until I reboot.I have even seen all of the screensavers working properly, again, until I reboot.Is there a config file not being set up properly?Additionally, this is what Gateway says about the video adapter:

I just installed F11 on my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) and I have the following issue when adjusting volume. The keyboard shortcuts work, but they don't raise/lower the volume smoothly, instead they do it in 4 or 5 increments total. What's weird is that the notification that appears in the screen when I adjust the volume (the whitish square with a picture of a speaker, I think it's part of Compiz) shows the the volume changing in small increments, but when I get to the 3rd or 4th little increment from the right the volume is already muted. If I look at the alsa volume controls at the same time, I see it changing by the 4 or 5 big increments.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot (XP Pro and F13) laptop. This laptop has a Ralink RT2501USB Wireless Adapter which works perfectly fine on XP. But when it comes to F13, adapter only works properly when I am physically next to my router. When I move few feet away the strength of the connection drops from 100% to around 40%. But even though 40% should be okay for slow connection to internet, I can't get any internet access at all. I have tried three different routers with same results on each.
When I boot same machine with windows XP, all works fine. I can move to any part of my house and I will still have the connection without any issues.I can see that RT73 driver is installed if I check in add remove program under system.I am not an expert but to me its seems that the drivers on F13 for RT2501USB are not as good as on windows?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem since I fresh installed Fedora on my laptop: I can play sounds fine, but I can't mute/make it louder or softer. I couple days ago (right after I installed) there was a notification saying there was an error with something in the sound and it was "falling back to default". Recently, the notification stopped popping up but the problem persists.
I'm not 100% positive as to what type of speakers my laptop has. I know they're made by JBL, but on Windows they're handled by "RealTek HD Audio Manager" and in Device Manager there's 2 different audio devices: Realtek High Definition Audio and ATI HDMI Audio. Neither of them say they're JBL brand. The most information I can get out of the specs of my laptop found on Newegg is that they're "JBL stereo speakers (1.5 watt x 2)".
I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.
My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...

When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...
I have the graphic card: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] and I want to set the driver radeon because when start the ubuntu 9.10 on live cd it's use this driver. Now load the radeonfb but when set on xorg the driver "radeon" while reboot the machine not work. When start gdm the screen becomes black and I need power off and change xorg.

I decided to go with JWM instead of one of the default desktop environments, but now I'm having to configure everything manually, and I'm pretty lost. So far, I've got X and JWM installed (though no graphical login, and have to startx manually).
Priority one is to update the video driver and get the best performance possible. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. I know the fglrx driver doesn't work with this card, but I don't know which package to install. When I type "apt-get install radeon", it spits out "E: Couldn't find package radeon"
I've installed openSUSE 11.3, and I want to have hardware 3D acceleration on my Radeon 5850. Far as I can tell, I don't have any right now (for example, I installed armagetron and it uses software rendering).
I'm a technical enough user, but I'm new to openSUSE and to Linux, and my previous attempt of installing ATI drivers (proprietary ones on Fedora) resulted in the OS being unable to boot. I figure that asking for directions would help make things work out better this time.
I got 11.3 64-bit installed properly the first time around and working with a Radeon HD4350. I noticed X to be somewhat sluggish on certain apps under KDE so a couple of days ago I tried to install the Catalyst 10.10 tool from the unofficial repository. I didn't like it and uninstalled it.
After some research it turned out that the proper driver is radeon so I uninstalled the radeonhd driver and rebooted hoping Xorg will pick up the radeon driver automatically as it is included with my kernel. Didn't work and I couldn't even get past the failsafe login screen. Regular boot doesn't even get to the login screen. Just hangs and won't respond to any keyboard commands.
I followed the instruction at this SDB Configuring graphics cards in openSUSE 11.3 using the ATI Xorg -configure option from level 3 console and creating a radeon xorg.conf file. It all works to the point of "startx" as regular user which just brings me back to console. Rebooting and does the same things as before under failsafe and regular. Even nomodeset doesn't help. The output error from startx in failsafe console mode is the following:
