I have installed and removed the Nvidia Drivers via System>Admin>Additional drivers. The dialog tells me that the Current driver is Activated but no in use. I can't seem to find the way to get the driver in use.I'm running 11.04.
View 6 RepliesI have a nVIDIA Geforce 8500 GT on my Ubuntu system.and have the latest 260.19.36 driver installed.the Mplayer was from SVN checkout also the latest version.but the configure script from mplayer can't detect VDPAU on my system. just give me the output like this
Check VDPAU .... No If I force Enable the VDPAU. the make process won't be successful.just googled, most article that I can find about Mplayer and VDPAU is out of date.
check this out and let me know if you have any ideas or a better way to install this silly thing. At the moment I'm using 185 drivers and I would not mind upgrading to 190 or even 195 versions of the driver.

First off. I think I have everything going. I had issues with the display and sound. I got the sound working thanks to these forums...but I have "tossed" some code in the command window that I have no clue what it does or if it worked.
I would like to know if my nVIDIA cards are working correctly. My goal is to use WINE or Play On Linux and get World of Warcraft up and going... along with MS OFFICE 2010.

I just switched from xp on a HP s7613w (gforce 6150 le) to ubuntu 9-10. I can not see anything over 800x600 to select unless i enable the nvida drivers. There are three choices and i have tried them all, After i activate them it will let me select the 1024x768 that i need but the screen is garbled. There will be garbled text till i run the curser over the text then it will stratin up. The buttons on a page will move down and to the right a little bit when i put the cursor over them. When i uninstall the nvida drivers everything goes back to 800x600 and the screen is fine. My monitor is a Sceptre X20 is that helps. I am new to linux so please use easy to follow instructions if you can help me. I tried pc linux and it did the same thing. I like this version better so i am going to try to get it to work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere are several things going on here. * Mouse jumps to the side when I click on things when zoom is activated. * After an upgrade in Lucid,I'd start up the computer and everything would be very slow. Windows would open from the bottom and I could not click on anything cause when I tried,the mouse would jump to the side. Zoom slow and clunky. Mouse fireball always turned off. I'd uninstall and reinstall Compiz and that would fix it for about three days and then it's back to the same problems. I end up having to click no effects then click effects (middle button) and it looks for drivers,then I have to reactivate the mouse fireball. This happened every day,day in day out. So I installed Meerkat Sat. and it was fine till this morning,now the same problem has reasserted itself.What can I do? Do I need a new video card?

found this in my boot log nvidia.ko for kernel 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64 was not found. and the driver is disabled and X is not working correctly. I tried removing the driver "yum remove kmod-nvidia "
then re-installing and rebooting. same issue I went to the fusion site and followed there install guide again same issue. made sure the free driver is blacklisted in grub.conf kernel lines
I have found the commands to install the driver and my card works great and makes my HDTV look cool running Fedora 14. Problem , I have to set my resolution to 1280x768 every time I restart my computer. I try to Save to X Configuration file I get You do not have adequate permission to open the existing X configuration file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' for writing. You must be 'root' to modify the file. Last time I had to use a CLI like this was in the 80s on an apple.

The issue I am having is when I try to move a window from my virtual machine in unity mode the screen crashes and then disappears. Everything seems to work while not in unity mode. I have tried various thing like disabling 3d mode in VMware, disabling various KDE effects. I only have these problems with a dual monitor setup, if I switch to a single monitor everything works just fine.

I've looked at the Arch wiki entry for configuring NVIDIA cards/drivers, and I found that you can put the command nvidia-settings --load-config-only into your DE's session startup configs to make it launch automatically upon login. I have a Netgear WNA-1000 that I can't get recognized on any of my Ubuntu boxes (8.10, 9.04, 9.10). This page says that it should work with the ar9170usb driver, and that this driver is already part of the mainline Linux kernel as of 2.6.30. It also noted that ar9170usb does not claim this device's USB-ID at this time.
How do I (a) get this driver to recognize and work with my WNA-1000 under 9.10?
(b) get this driver installed and working under the older versions of Ubuntu that I also have?
I'm using Epson TX110 printer at the moment, it contains both scanner and printer.
I've installed Epson TX109 driver on Ubuntu, and it prints fine.
The problem is, how do I get the scanner to work? In the previous Windows, there's a program that allows you to scan and edit files, can I do it here too?
I have a Zotac IONITX-F-E motherboard (Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 GHz + Nvidia ION) -based box with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit installed. My goal is to play back 1080p video. I read somewhere that the nouveau driver that installs by default with ubuntu 10.04 does not support VDPAU. So, my first step is to install the nVidia proprietary driver. I tried following a half-dozen different guides for doing this, none of which worked. Let's take this one for example: [URL] I purge. I reboot. I run the Nvidia installer (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.24-pkg2.run). I get:

So, I run: Code: sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 nvidia-185-modaliases I try the nvidia installer again. It works. I reboot. I get a message saying that ubuntu is running in low graphics mode, because loading the nvidia kernel module failed. I check /var/log/messages and see: Code: API mismatch: the client has version 195.36.24 but the kernel module has version 195.36.15. I take a Tylenol and here I am.
Since the last driver error I had posted the thread was starting to drift WELL off the original issue so now I am opening a new thread since it IS a whole different problem in general;So, I was having issues with my driver not being enabled. After I installed it manually it appeared to be correct how-ever when I ttried to enable special effects, and compiz, it didn't work.And even after a correct installation of the driver some windows when they pop up look like static then appear.Graphics card is an:nVidia 6150SE onboard card.I know it can handle compiz, and effects, because it did before on the other version of ubuntu I had.

I finally found the windows inf and sys driver files, and learned how to get ndiswrapper without internet and installed the driver. It says that i have the hardware it controls, but when I look at the connection icon, it says not connected, has lost the wireless connection block, and I am not connected to the internet. The wireless is called USB Wireless 802.11 b/g , but it is not usb and is plugged straight into the motherboard with the only physical part is the antenna. Why can't I connect?

Come to find out this has been a long standing bug with the menus not redrawing properly. My question is, now that I've installed the restricted driver 188, how do I go back to an open source one?

A message popped up about the nVidia drivers I could downlaod that would enable me to do more so I did. I restarted and all was fine. Nice effects, high resolution. However, after going on XP, then going onto Ubuntu, the screen ahs gone black. The white Ubuntu logo can be seen for a while as it loads, but then the monitor goes completely blank as I hear the sound when the log-in screen appears.As I said in my title, it was the 185 driver

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Dell with Broadcom bcmwl6.inf driver. I tried the guides using ndiswrapper, but they didn't work for me. What worked was simply going to System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers and activating the Broadcom STA proprietary driver. That sounds great, but every time I restart, I have to remove and install the driver from Hardware Drivers.
What should I do to keep the driver loaded and claimed at the start. This is my lshw -C network before and after removing and installing wireless card driver.

I've read a lot about wireless network cards but I haven't found something similiar to my problem. I've a belkin wireless card F5D7000tt and its driver bcmwl5.inf. I think I've correctly installed it because when I use "ndiswrapper -l" i get:

There is a laptop that I want to get that has the ATI Mobility Radeon 4100 and I cannot find it under ATI's driver downloads for any operating system.
Look for yourself [url] select notebook, then readeon, then 4100 series, for ANY operating system, it doesen't have a driver for it.
The first question is: Were is the linux driver for the 4100, and the second, if there is NO propriatary driver installed, will x take full use of the video hardware, or will it be capped and won't work to its fullest potential that it has?

i found this quote: WPA/WPA2 are broken in every module everybody has tried (AFAIK) since Adam's 1.7.1.1 DKMS driver. Downgrade like so: 1) Get the driver from [URL]... 2) Go to terminal, and move the pre-installed driver so it won't get loaded. cd /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/rt2860/ sudo mv rt2860sta.ko rt2860sta.bak. 3) Install rt2860-dkms_1.7.1.1_all.deb. It will also install dependencies needed to compile the driver. If it doesn't retrieve the right packages, make sure "build-essential", "linux-header-generic" and "dkms" is installed. Let it run and it should complete without a problem. 4) Restart. The new driver should work automatically. the deb file gives me an error.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 10.04 on a dell inspiron laptop, but the wireless adapter will not work. I uses a broadcom BCM4312. When I click on the wireless icon, it says "firmware missing". Normally, I would connect to look for proprietary drivers, but my problem is that I live in an apartment complex with only wifi.
So my question is, A) does this sound like a driver problem, and B) if so, how can I get the necessary driver installed (after downloading it with another laptop) when I use lshw, it does show the wireless device, by says that it is disabled. I tried following the directions here [URL]... (changing "ieee80211_crypt_tkip" with "lib80211_crypt_tkip" due to the rename in 2.6.29. I think that is correct), but that did not work either.
I just installed an nVidia driver for my Dell laptop running the latest flavor of Ubuntu (Lazy Lynx, or whatever it's up to). After it rebooted, the screen came up black. I have no video. How do I get rid of this driver and get my video back?
