Ubuntu :: Webkinz Doesn't Work On 64bit Xubuntu System
Aug 15, 2011
Just noticed that my kids are no longer able to play webkinz on my 64bit system (Edubuntu). Webkinz also doesn't work on my 64bit Xubuntu system. Looks like 64bit Flash is broken? -- or something is broken between Webkinz and the latest flash. Webkinz, predictably enough, works on Windows, but also works on my 32bit Linux system with the latest flash.Just wondering if any of you out there with a 64bit system could try accessing Webkinz (if you can see the Login moniker and click it, then it's working on your system).

I'm using Xubuntu 10.10 and trying desperately to connect to my wireless network. I have tried wicd and network manager when I crashed wicd. First of all I would get a "bad password" message, then I progressed to a "cannot assign IP" now I can connect to the network and see my netbook on my routers GUI but I can't browse. I have an ASUS 901 (bought with Xandros installed as standard). I'm not sure if I am making progress or not because half of the time, I only have a vague idea of what I am doing.

I have two computers connected to Ubuntu One (Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10 32bit both) and want to connect the third one with Ubunut 10.10 64bit and it wont connect. ubuntu-syncdaemon and ubuntu-sso-login service work in background. When I click on Connect it writes Synchronizing. for three seconds and disconnects immediately.

This is my FIRST time using ubunutu and i have spent the whole day trying to get my internet working but with no success. I have come so close to giving up on ubuntu but for some reason i just cant let go! When i type in ifconfig in the terminal i can see that i have an ip address assigned and i can ping my router. My motherboard came with linux drivers and i tried installing the LAN drivers with the included instructions i have got no where. I did find out that the file name in the instructions was wrong and the actual name is r8168-8.012.00. Here are the instructions-

I'm using firefox 3.6 x86_64 with java 1.6.0_18 64 bit. I tried many times to set the (ln -s) of
[code]...
But it still doesn't work. But, when i change the java to 1.6.0_18 32 bit and then changing the reference to i386/libnpjp2.so, then it works. So the problem i have is only when using 64 bit java.

I am thinking about upgrading to 64bit Ubuntu 10.10 because I have heard it's good for gaming and makes things run smoother. Also, I know it's the new thing and I'm going to have to switch eventually. Point is I don't want to loose my data with the clean install and I was wondering if I backup my current system, which is 32bit (assuming there is a backup utility, I thought I saw one) will I be able to load that on my new 64bit install?

I'm trying to install Adobe Air on a 64bit Debian system but just can't get it to work. All the instructions I can find on the net are for Ubuntu and I've tried to modify them for Debian but with no luck.
Is there a write up for installing it anywhere around?

The only user that can make the sound card work on a F10 x86_64 system is root. For non root users, I am not seeing any error messages when a app tries to use/access the sound card, just nothing plays. As I said, for root everything works as expected. I am sure this is a permission/setup issue, but I have no idea where to start.

I'm currently in distress because my Ubuntu system that has my university assignment doesn't work. Not only that, when I tried to fix it I managed corrupt the dual boot I had and now cannot login into either Windows 7 or Ubuntu (besides the USB tryout version which I'm currently on now.I'll try and describe what happened in the beginning. I was rushing to get to class so I needed to shut down my Ubuntu system quickly. The quickest way was to obviously hold down the off button however later when I got home to finish off my uni assignment I couldn't boot into linux! I just get a dos command line with the word grub on it.However not only did it not fix my problem I now can't boot into anything except from this Ubuntu Live CD.

I'm about to start a long research project and I think that being able to tag my files will make my life a lot easier. Basically, just as blogs tag posts with certain tags, I would like to tag documents with certain tags (ie. #secondary #2011 etc) and then search for documents by tag instead of trying to find them in folders.

I've created a custom Lucid installation using debootstrap, it works nice but have some problems, one of them is plymouth: it does not show the splash screen, when booting, I can only see a black screen, suddenly a green one and again black, when it is about to boot, some text messages appear and then the system starts. I'm only using X, no window manager, so I edited /etc/init/plymouth.conf and changed the start instruction from:
[code]...
But it remains the same, Plymouth does not show the splash screen.

Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?

I used the following 2 rules in iptables to forwarding some packagesiptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 8000 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.0.244:8000iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -p tcp --dport 8000 -j MASQUERADEIt works perfectly before, the kernel was 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5.After we did a update, the kernel now is 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5.and the forwarding is stop.I just wondering where can I get some debug information. I checked /var/log/message, dmesg ... seems nothing there.

When s1 and s2 are stated with 'real*8', the 64bit and 32bit systems get the same results.

When I was using polipo on Ubuntu, it automatically start at system boot.
Now I'm using opensuse, I installed polipo from the repository, however, I have to manually start it by using "sudo polipo". If root privilege is not given, polipo won't work correctly.
What should I do to make it start at boot automatically?
a friend told me to creat /etc/boot.local, with code...

I have a folder on my windows xp machine that I am trying to share with my xubuntu machine (10.04) and I have been searching all night, and have found several resources for accomplishing this, but nothing that seems to work with this version of xubuntu. I've downloaded Samba and tried the smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/Shared Command and it says "No such file or directory". There is no "Shared Folders" under System, Network, or any directory. Right clicking on a folder produces no sharing options. The smb.conf file seems to have destroyed itself out of spite.

trying a different title... If I can't get satisfaction, then I'll give it a rest.1.) Installed Xubuntu 11.042.) Installed Compiz, Fusion, CCSM, & Emerald.3.) Compiz works.4.) Emerald doesn't.5.) Using Fusion to set the WM or typing [emerald --replace] (in CCSM) doesn't work. Xubuntu seems unwilling to cooperate with any WM if it's not XFWM.Has anyone here gotten Emerald to work in Xubuntu 11.04?

I am trying to install Linux on a 12-year-old PC with an AMD Pentium II equivalent and with 128Mb RAM. Xubuntu 10.04 won't install because the kernel requires "cmov" but the PC's processor doesn't have it. There are loads of posts on the Internet about this but I have not found any listings of Linux distros that don't need cmov other than TinyMe, which I shall try installing.
There is no hope of my being able to use the command line to replace the kernel version or for any such fix -I am just too new to it all. nice-looking distro that should install that doesn't look too old and that has a good set of features?

I`m new to Ubuntu and Linux as all. First of all i have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. I have a very strange problem, after the initial installation of Ubuntu 10.10 there were no problems plugging in my headphones or 2.1 sound system and listening to music. After a couple of days when trying to plug in my 2.1 sound system I noticed that there is no sound coming out of them, but the laptop speakers were working fine. Tested the sound system with another laptop and they worked well. I have checked all the settings and everything seems fine. I`m puzzled. I have the system dual boot with Win 7 if that makes any difference.
