I'm trying to install Adobe Air on a 64bit Debian system but just can't get it to work. All the instructions I can find on the net are for Ubuntu and I've tried to modify them for Debian but with no luck.
Is there a write up for installing it anywhere around?
I have the latest version of Debian Lenny AMD64 installed on my brother's computer. I am trying to get Adobe versions of flash to install on his computer. It seems no matter what I do I get the freeware version installed which unfortunately is not up to the task. If I try to remove the freeware version the package manager tells me it needs to remove the gnome as well. How can I keep the gnome and at the same time get Adobe version to install. Yes I have a multimedia repository installed and I tried reinstalling Mozilla Adobe package with no success.
Searching forums did not result in any helpful ideas.Things I have already found out from reading this forum.-I have to purge all freeware version of the Adobe flash plug-in. I can't seem to find a way to do this without removing the gnome desktop. It seems that the plug-in is a dependency for the gnome desktop environment. Yes I want to continue to use the gnome desktop environment. I have to install flashplayer-mozilla package from the Debian multimedia nonfree repository. That I can successfully do, and have done so without success. It installs successfully, but it still shows version 9 of the plug-in. I believe version 9 is the free version. What I would like to use the free version, it's just not compatible with the websites I go to.
I am thinking about upgrading to 64bit Ubuntu 10.10 because I have heard it's good for gaming and makes things run smoother. Also, I know it's the new thing and I'm going to have to switch eventually. Point is I don't want to loose my data with the clean install and I was wondering if I backup my current system, which is 32bit (assuming there is a backup utility, I thought I saw one) will I be able to load that on my new 64bit install?

Looks like 64bit Flash is broken? -- or something is broken between Webkinz and the latest flash. Webkinz, predictably enough, works on Windows, but also works on my 32bit Linux system with the latest flash.Just wondering if any of you out there with a 64bit system could try accessing Webkinz (if you can see the Login moniker and click it, then it's working on your system).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed centos 5.5 on a new system, details below. All worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the system froze up. No network access, no keyboard/mouse, blank screen. Had to reboot. Happened again about a week later. Then started happening every couple of days, then daily, and today it happened three times.
I see nothing unusual in any of the logs. The freezing does not seem to be correlated with any particular activity. Happened in both gnome and kde. While it's up, everything seems to work fine. I looked on the intel site for a new driver for this chipset but didn't find a linux version. I tried different versions of this same kernel (PAE, centosplus etc) but have not tried an older kernel.
I installed memtest86 (with yum) but when I try to start it from grub, the screen goes blank for a few seconds, then it reboots. Can't get it to start. Tried a bootable memtest86 cd that worked before (couple of years ago) and it wouldn't boot from it (bios is set to boot first from cd). Maybe this is a strong hint?
My next steps are to burn a new cd of memtest86 and try that. And/or to start removing ram to see if any of them are the culprit. In the meantime I'm asking if any of you have had similar problems with this architecture, or have other suggestions of things I could try. I don't have pieces of hardware lying around that I can easily swap in and out, unfortunately. If all this fails I'll try FC13. Any advice on whether or not you think that might fix the problem would be appreciated, before I go to the trouble.code...
The only user that can make the sound card work on a F10 x86_64 system is root. For non root users, I am not seeing any error messages when a app tries to use/access the sound card, just nothing plays. As I said, for root everything works as expected. I am sure this is a permission/setup issue, but I have no idea where to start.

I searched around on Google and found that there is a bug report: 537572. I was just wondering what the status was on that. Is there currently a fix or workaround?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Debian etch system I haven't fired up for about a year because the mobo went bad.I had one user setup, I hammered it with all my normal passwords and finally got a prompt that said 'Access Denied'So my understanding is that I figured out my PW, but for some reason this user doesn't have access anymore.Is there a workaround for this? I am just trying to retrieve some files from the drive I don't have a problem formatting it.
Also I tried hooking it up to a windows machine:I loaded Ext2 IFS, it recognizes the drive, but says it can't load it - something to do with the headers being closed out improperly, and basically said I would have to boot it in linux then try it in windows.I tried this after I got to the linux logon prompt (the bootloader had scanned the drive because it hadn't been scanned for x amount of days), this didn't help Ext IFS read the drive.
I'm installing in f13 the Adobe flash-player but I'm enabled to do it, what is the best procedure to do it, I have 64bit machine, I try with the nspluginwrapper but is occurring a compilation error:

So what can I do to install adobe for 64bit machine.
I can't have pulseaudio on this machine. Second, Flash played with sound in F13 32bit w/o PA. I have gstreamer plugins and ffmpeg installed but still no sound. Is there any diagnostic output I can refer to to find what libraries are missing if any? Using Firefox. HW is Creative Audigy2 on Gigabyte AMD890 mobo, Phenom II 4 core Sound works everywhere except Flash.

Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?
i believe it has something to do with flash and something called no-script.if you google "firefox 10.04 bryce harrington" you can come across what is supposedly a fix for this, however this did not relieve my issue. the issue remains that i can open firefox, go to google and it's ok. gmail, videos, and many other websites immediately close firefox - no error messages or anything. i started firefox in safe mode with no add-ons and deleted all extensions, pages, user settings etc. and it still happens.this is a major issue, because if i can't run firefox i am in trouble - i also use opera, but that is because i have, well had, an issue with opening multiple instances of firefox - as in, i could not open more than one instance. that is another issue for another day, right now i just need firefox to function!

What would be the advantage of running a 64bit system over a 32bit system? I only have 3GB of ram but plan on kickin another 1GIG into it. But i wanna try 64bit Linux(probably slackware) on it. But first im just wondering what the advantages are people have seen who have used both 32/64bit linux. Speed? Smoothness? And also what are major disadvantages such as compatibility, configuration, etc.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am using mepis 8 and everything is 32bit. Until recently I was using Firefox 3.0 and the flash player worked fine. However I recently upgraded a lot of my software though the packager manager including Firefox 3.5.2 and now Adobe Flash Player will not work. I have installed adobe flash player both through the package manager and when that did not work also from the Adobe website (Ubuntu 8.04.deb file.) Neither will work.
I have installed the libflashplayer.so file in all the appropriate plugin directories as per the instructions. I have even tried Konqueror but again flash does not work.
In the Plugin section of Firefox there is a plugin for Shockwave flash 10.0.r32 and it is enabled. Inserting aboutlugins in task bar of the browser displays details of plugins for mplayer, Quicktime and Realplayer but nothing about Adobe flash.
I've made a Debian installer CD using a netinst image some time ago and tried to install it my self, but I couldn't get the X system to work, and I wasn't sure If i made the correct actions at partitioning the drives etc
My primary OS is Vista, but I want to dual boot with Debian. I have two large drives, C: and D:. D: now is not visible from Vista as Debian is installed in it and it's the drive that I want to install debian in it. I was using grub to select OS, but when I decided to ask for your help, I wanted to format the D: drive. While trying to find a way to format it (it wasn't accessible by windows), I deleted the partition so grub was giving a 22 error and I couldn't boot my system. Finally, I've fixed that and now I want help to format D: (if necessary) and then install Debian with a Graphical User Interface in D:, but keep Vista in C: also. I have the Debian Installer CD, but I don't want to proceed alone, as I don't understand everything at the partitioning state, and I don't want to do something wrong and mess C: (or the entire machine).
Adobe Air 2.0 has finally been released, has anyone tried it? It's supposed to support 64 bit systems now, but I still can't get it to work! When I download the .deb from Adobe's site I get a wrong architecture error message when I try to open it, and there doesn't seem to be a 64 bit version that I can find. When I go to BBC IPlayer it goes through all the instalation steps and I got Adobe Air and BBC Iplayer listed under Accesories in my list of programs. However when I tried to open BBC IPlayer it worked normally for about 10-15 seconds and then vanished for no apparent reason. I rebooted and now Air and IPlayer do not appear on the list of programs, although if I try and dowload a programme from the IPlayer website I get the IPlayer desktop up and working for about 10-15 seconds until it inexplicably vanishes again.

When I try to play videos on my main installation (slackware64-current) with adobe flash-plugin 10.0.45.2 I get an error saying that this MIGHT be due to limitations with adobe flash for linux 64. The same videos work for a 32 bit slack install with plugin 10.1.
I'm just trying to confirm that hulu.com won't work with 64bit flash for linux or find a starting place for troubelshooting.
