Fedora Networking :: WiFi Auto Connect Doesn't Work (NetworkManager Applet)
Mar 3, 2010The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:
Computer: Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop
WiFi Chip: Broadcomm BCM4238
Kernel Version: 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64

Ubuntu One :: Doesn't Work On U10.10-64bit
Mar 23, 2011I have two computers connected to Ubuntu One (Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10 32bit both) and want to connect the third one with Ubunut 10.10 64bit and it wont connect. ubuntu-syncdaemon and ubuntu-sso-login service work in background. When I click on Connect it writes Synchronizing. for three seconds and disconnects immediately.

Feb 16, 2010I have just dual booted my pc to run windows 7(64 bit) and ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit). This is my FIRST time using ubunutu and i have spent the whole day trying to get my internet working but with no success. I have come so close to giving up on ubuntu but for some reason i just cant let go! When i type in ifconfig in the terminal i can see that i have an ip address assigned and i can ping my router. My motherboard came with linux drivers and i tried installing the LAN drivers with the included instructions i have got no where. I did find out that the file name in the instructions was wrong and the actual name is r8168-8.012.00. Here are the instructions-

But it still doesn't work. But, when i change the java to 1.6.0_18 32 bit and then changing the reference to i386/libnpjp2.so, then it works. So the problem i have is only when using 64 bit java.

Aug 15, 2009Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?
Red Hat / Fedora :: No Sound With Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series?
Nov 12, 2010I have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.

Aug 15, 2011Just noticed that my kids are no longer able to play webkinz on my 64bit system (Edubuntu). Webkinz also doesn't work on my 64bit Xubuntu system. Looks like 64bit Flash is broken? -- or something is broken between Webkinz and the latest flash. Webkinz, predictably enough, works on Windows, but also works on my 32bit Linux system with the latest flash.Just wondering if any of you out there with a 64bit system could try accessing Webkinz (if you can see the Login moniker and click it, then it's working on your system).

The thing that does not work as it should is that the OS can't detect the GPU which is an ATI radeon 5650, when i click the additional drivers icon in order to install the proprietary drivers I only see the "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system". How can I make the OS detect the GPU?

Jul 17, 2010I installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.
Here is the information from the working Ubuntu machine code...

and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?

Mar 28, 2011I can't connect to the internet as the wifi hasn't worked since I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10...It might be a hardware problem as this problem occured, when I tried to install Windows 7 but it didn't work on my computer...than I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 10.10, but than the wifi just wasn't working...but it was working before the win 7 installation and during the installation win 7 recognized my wireless connections...and even when I tried installing win 7 AGAIN it still recognized them...but every time I want to install Ubuntu 10.10...wireless just doesn't work.

Oct 19, 2010I have an HP DV6 3143se which has a Ralink 3090 wifi card in it.the only thing that doesn't work at the moment is the Wifi. I tried installing the Linux backports module, but the trouble is that sometimes, my home wifi network is shown on the list of available networks and most often, it's not. when the network does show up, and i click on it and enter my WPA2 password, it takes ages to handshake and then it tells me that my password is wrong. the same password works in windows 7 so something's not working.
when i try to disable and re enable wireless network on the network manager applet, i get a Wireless device not ready or Network manager not running message.

Ubuntu Networking :: Hardware Switch Doesn't Work For Atheros WiFi
Mar 10, 2011i'm running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with an Atheros AR5BMB5 WiFi card.
The problem i'm having is that the hardware switch to turn the WiFi on and off isn't working right. When I hit the switch to turn it off, the light doesn't turn off, and Ubuntu just disconnects from the network and searches for more WiFi networks - it doesn't say that the WiFi has been deactivated, and I don't think it is. When I hit the switch again, it finds my network and connects to it.
The lspci -v | less command gives me the following information for the WiFi:

It lists a different model of card, but it's using what I assume is the correct driver, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've checked the card itself and it is a AR5BMB5.
I would like to fix it so the switch actually turns the WiFi off instead of just making it search for more networks (I assume it's not actually turning off), and perhaps make the light turn off as it should as well.

Sep 9, 2010I just loaded the Ubuntu maverick AMD64 beta and to my regret I see that the wireless adapter isn't functioning, even after applying updates through wired connection.
Terminal lspci -v command tells me that the network adapter is present as Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter on PCI-E - rev 01 and that the ath9k module is being used by the kernel.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Doesn't Display Correctly Since Installing F10 X86-64
May 1, 2009I have a laptop that doesn't display correctly since installing F10 x86-64. Instead of using the i810 driver, I see the experimental intel driver. I am running on a Dell D630 laptop with the default intel integrated graphics.
Just to note: Running gnome. I tried KDE and I can actually get this to work and display in 1600x1200. I don't want, "well use kde then" to be the solution. Also, in gnome, if I go to the screen resolution option from the menu, the mirron screens is clicked. Even when I detect monitors and unselect the mirror screens and pick the correct resolution, when I click OK, the screen flickers, and I go back to the same screen with the original default values? Wierd.
I got the bright idea to install system-config-display (something like that), which installed fine. I then changed my default resolution to 800x640 just to try it (really want 1600x1200). Well, I decided to reboot. Not the laptop doesn't start, it stops right after loading anaconda, and just won't go any further.
So two questions:
1. What do I need to change to get the laptop to actually boot?
2. How to get the external monitor to display in 1600x1200.

Jan 17, 2010I'm trying to get skype to work on my new system. It seems to install, but trying to run it I get an error message naming a missing dependency. Searching for this with yum whatprovides and installing the result worked in one case, but for the next one, yum install <package containing missing item> returns a few errors of the form:
package <name-version>.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than <package-version>.fc12.i686) is already installed Is there any way around this? I'd like to get skype working, but am having no luck at the moment. I'd prefer not to remove the .x86_64 packages if I can avoid it in case that breaks something else.

Feb 22, 2011I've had this same problem in Ubuntu 10.10 and earlier and have never found a solution. I forgot how to change pulse audio and look at the MXSA because that was awhile ago and I haven't messed with Linux since. What have I done to try to fix this? I turned the sound up lol. It was on mute after install.
One thing I would like to mention that I have never asked about before is, I do not have a sound card, I used on-board audio from my motherboard. Could this be a problem?
