Ubuntu :: Using Tracker (Searching Tool) In 10.04 Lucid?
Apr 21, 2010
I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx for some time and I have some problems with Tracker (the searching tool):
1. It looks like it reindexes after every turning on a computer. It always starts at 0/55234 files.
2. It doesn't index e-mails in Evolution. I'm using IMAP, but all mail is marked for offline use. So it's on the harddisk. And it worked in older versions of Ubuntu.
3. GUI is totally different than the one which is shown on the website of Tracker [URL]. How is it possible? Is Ubuntu using some old version? Moreover the Czech translation is lost in Lucid. It was 100% translated in Karmic, and now it's completely English.

I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10:04 64 bit, with kernel 2.6.32-24-generic, and want to use my printer Canon iP1880. I've tried looking on the internet and found: the use of 32 bits drivers for Linux on Linux 64-bit platforms. I've followed the procedure given but still failed to run the printer properly. There may still be the wrong procedure that I did, could you help me again to repeat what procedures I need to do, till now,I still don't know how to uninstalling that drivers? Are there other ways that may be successful so I can use my printer, if I practice?

I have a problem with Transmission. After using it for over six months without a single problem, it suddenly stopped downloading. In the torrents that do no get downloaded, I get an error message Tracker responded: Unknown error (0) in the info window, tracker tab. But there are torrents with the same tracker that don'thave a problem and get downloaded fineThe logs don't give a clue about whats wrong either.I tried downloading those torrents with Vuze and I had the same problem. What could be wrong?

Between Intrepid and Jaunty, the database schema for Tracker changed from QDBM to SQLite FTS. This caused corruption problems for many, the only solution to which (as far as I can tell) was to delete the contents of .cache/tracker. Unfortunately I have many thousands of file tags which I'm not willing to lose, so that isn't an option for me. So I've stuck with Intrepid, waiting for a solution to come along. It doesn't seem to have happened yet.
So ideally what I'm after is some way to convert my file-meta.db file to the current schema, or a way of exporting and then re-importing my tags. Failing that, a way of running Tracker 0.6.6 under more recent versions of Ubuntu would do.

I am trying to use Bittornado with iptables via Firestarter. Previously, I had no problems, but now I have started using Firestarter, traffic is blocked. AIUI, after selecting the .torrent file, the client (me) connects to the tracker. In Firestarter, I see that my IP is trying to connect to various ports, all of which are blocked.I assumed the problem was that because Firestarter has a restrictive outbound traffic policy, that I needed to add Bittornado to it. So in Bittornado, I selected the acceptable ports as 10000-10010 (randomized), and then in Firestarter for the outbound policy I allowed those same ports. The inbound traffic policy has no rules. All traffic is permitted and I have a direct connection to the Internet (no NAT). I do not understand why, if I have selected the permissible outbound ports in Firestarter, and also selected those same ports in Bittornado, why connections between my IP and the tracker are blocked?

If you install PacketTracker you see that fonts are awful. They are too big and enormous. I've been seeking for a decision of that and stack at a site (Russian blog).
And here is decision:
1) Code:
2) Open file
Code:
Code:
The only thing that I've noticed giving a trouble is the list of Filters in Simulation mode. (With black background there is black font) So you have to change your ubuntu theme to lighter one.

I've already encountered a couple bugs, and thought it would be nice to be able to report new ones there and/or comment on old ones. But their register button only leads to "Invalid OpenID transaction," and I think that's a bug, and I think I ought to report that over here since I obviously can't register or report it over there.

I'm running a standalone compiz (not in gnome, but just compiz, gnome-do and AWN).I use tracker to search for my stuff all the time, however, since I started using compiz without gnome, when I click results they're always opened by the browser (folders, mp3s, etc).I belive tracker uses xdg-open, and I noticed xdg-open exhibits the same behaviour.Where do I change the file associations xdg-open uses? I've found little to no documentation about it.

I have ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso loaded in Transmission, which starts every time I boot up. Today, I booted up and got these weird error messages from Transmission with the ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso file. The message is: Tracker gave an error "Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker." - Idle.
I thought that maybe something was wrong with Transmission, so I paused the torrent and then removed it. I then reloaded it and pointed Transmission at the download directory. Transmission verified the downloaded data and then spat out the same error message at me - "Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker."
I then removed the torrent from Transmission, exited from Transmission cleanly, restarted Transmission, reloaded the torrent file, pointed it at the current download location, it verified the file was completely downloaded, and then got the same error message. I have a firewall running, and it has ports 51413 and ports 6881-6999 open for both TCP and UDP connections. These are the same settings that I had yesterday, and there was no error message spat out by Transmission yesterday.

Title explains it all. The tracker plugin is enabled and it shows up in do's action list but when I try to search nothing happens... no windows, no errors, just a big silent nothing.
gnome-do version : 0.8.3.1 (latest)
gnome-do-plugins version : 0.8.2.1 (latest)
tracker version : 0.8.17 (latest stable)
Does anyone else have the same problem (and preferably a solution as well)?

I'm on 10.04 64-bit and can't get tagging to work in Activity Journal (.5) or Tracker (., installed from the ppas. Am I missing something? It'd be really nice to have tag-level access in addition to hierarchal directories! I've spent two hours past my bedtime working on this and am stumped.

I first installed strigi as part of nepomuk which came by default with my KDE 4 desktop. I noticed that nepomuk and virtuoso ended up consuming more than 1 GB of memory after a couple of hours, so I disabled it. I gave tracker a try, and after a couple of hours, it was using 300 mb. Left without options I installed the "under archiver" beagle. It has been running for many days keeping all my data indexed and up to date. The best part is that it uses mere 30 mb. The only change I did was enabling user_xattr on my file system, which as far as I know, doesn't affect tracker or strigi. Has anyone experienced this bizarre behavior with strigi or tracker? If so, is there a solution?

I'm about to start a long research project and I think that being able to tag my files will make my life a lot easier. Basically, just as blogs tag posts with certain tags, I would like to tag documents with certain tags (ie. #secondary #2011 etc) and then search for documents by tag instead of trying to find them in folders.

I'm playing a little bit with tracker, and I particularly like the feature that enables you to tag files. I was trying to see if there was a way to integrate it into Nautilus, and I stumbled upon this: [URL]. Which, of course, doesn't work for me! (Fedora 10). One thing to note is that they say to install python-nautilus, which I couldn't find, so I installed nautilus-python instead... just a different name for different distros or are they actually 2 different packages?

Now my question is I need to install request tracker in this system. I had d/l the .gzip file and extracted too. Its asking to make a repository. Now I had made one repo in /repos.d/ dir. But didn't able to find out what to write in baseurl (had also extracted the packages in /var/ftp/pub/ so do I need to write ftp://ip/ or what). ftp/http. I had extracted the packages in /root.
