Fedora :: Tracker Not Indexing Evolution Emails
Dec 8, 2010I use the latest Fedora 14 with Evolution 2.32.1 and Tracker 0.8.17.In Evolution is the tracker plugin enabled, tracker is not indexing my email.It says in the status: Filesystem 100%, Email 0%, Applications 100% Why are the Emails in Evolution not indexed?

Apr 21, 2010I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx for some time and I have some problems with Tracker (the searching tool):
1. It looks like it reindexes after every turning on a computer. It always starts at 0/55234 files.
2. It doesn't index e-mails in Evolution. I'm using IMAP, but all mail is marked for offline use. So it's on the harddisk. And it worked in older versions of Ubuntu.
3. GUI is totally different than the one which is shown on the website of Tracker [URL]. How is it possible? Is Ubuntu using some old version? Moreover the Czech translation is lost in Lucid. It was 100% translated in Karmic, and now it's completely English.

Sep 14, 2010Title explains it all. The tracker plugin is enabled and it shows up in do's action list but when I try to search nothing happens... no windows, no errors, just a big silent nothing.
gnome-do version : 0.8.3.1 (latest)
gnome-do-plugins version : 0.8.2.1 (latest)
tracker version : 0.8.17 (latest stable)
Does anyone else have the same problem (and preferably a solution as well)?

Apr 2, 2010I just installed Beagle and I have it indexing (by launching the indexer and checking its status via the terminal) but I can't figure out how to launch the actual searching GUI. I did some research online and found that this is done by clicking on the "search" icon under Applications > Accessories but there is not icon entitled Beagle nor search there? How do I access it?

I have a number of tutorials in html but I want to be able to search for particular information in these files and display that information in the terminal rather than having to go through a browser. Apart from using grep which gives a pretty messy display or having to write a a specially Bash or python script, is there any command line tools that can provide such a function?

Jun 12, 2011I am looking for a tool to index the files on my PC to allow full text search. I use recoll on Ubuntu and it does a great job. As I described in a previous post there does not seem to be an rpm package available for recoll on CentOS and I have not been able to build from source.So I tried beagle. In a nutshell the old version of beagle available for CentOS 5.6 does not do a good job of indexing pdf files. The newest version, tried on Linux Mint, does not do much better. And the beagle web site seems to be gone so I am not sure if it is an active product.
I have done some searching and most of what I find appear to be tools for indexing a web server. That is a bit of an overkill for my needs. I simply want to be able to search old email archives, OpenOffice documents, text and pdf files stored and accessed locally on the PC?

Jun 9, 2011I am familiar with slackware's slocate.What slocate doesn't have is an option to limit returned results from specific users or groups.What's more I can't seem to find a gui/web frontend so that people without knowledge of cli can benefit from the slocate's indexed search.So I turn to you all, is there another tool, that supports per user/group searching and a web (preferably) frontend?(clarification) i think slocate returns results related to the user running the search (files that he owns as well as files that are owned by his primary and other groups). Is that correct? I basically want a search user (who will be a member of the several groups that our office is structured like) to get results by giving as search criteria not only the filename, but also the owner of the file and / or the group

Mar 10, 2011I tried to remove PackageKit from F15 the other day and it removed, amongst other things GDM. Kind of hosed and I re-installed. I want to remove two components in particular, the command-not-found one and the software updater, (the old add/remove programs). How do I determine what packages would be removed? I thought there was an option in yum, but it doesn't seem to be in the manual.

Using gnome-search-tool, if I search for "word1 word3" I can't find "word1 word2 word3.txt" but I do find it (and too many others) if I just search for "word1"
I would have thought a boolean AND search would just be automatic, but I guess not. I've already come across searchmonkey, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to set it up to do this - i.e. I don't want to have to use regular expressions or be typing "*" all over the place.
P.S. I do use google desktop search, but I hate using it as the results are way too narrow to be of any use and haven't been able to figure out how to widen it.
P.P.S. I also found this: In terminal type gconf-editor and find gnome-search-tool in the Apps. Then look for the field quick_search_second_scan_excluded_paths and change the slash to nothing, i.e. delete the "/".
It worked for my ubuntu 10.04 pc, but not this one (ubuntu 9.1) - so I thought maybe there's another way...

Jan 6, 2010I wanted to create something that is pretty standard in the computer world: a search folder that shows me all the unread email in both local and remote (IMAP: Ubuntu/Postfix/Dovecot) folders.
1. Create Search Folder
2. Edit properties to find: "Status is not Read"
Viewing the folder was a bit of a nightmare.
If I clicked on any email that was unread, the email would appear for a moment, it's status would then change to 'read', it would then vanish, the next unread email would come up and then vanish. All unread email would then be flipped through until there was none in the search folder.I now have to go through all of my folders to make sure I haven't missed any important emails.Is there a way to create a rational search folder for unread mail given this setup?
Fedora Installation :: Apt-get Search Wget Saying Invalid Operation Search?
Apr 5, 2011i guess this is an installation issue as i am newish to Linux and got a F14 laptop from a used/refurb store... Anyway it seem i have difficulty with getting GTK running or maybe it is WGET...?
i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.
Fedora :: Nautilus And Tracker Integration (Tag Files)
May 9, 2009I'm playing a little bit with tracker, and I particularly like the feature that enables you to tag files. I was trying to see if there was a way to integrate it into Nautilus, and I stumbled upon this: [URL]. Which, of course, doesn't work for me! (Fedora 10). One thing to note is that they say to install python-nautilus, which I couldn't find, so I installed nautilus-python instead... just a different name for different distros or are they actually 2 different packages?

Jul 26, 2011I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0
Apr 5, 2010I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Ubuntu :: File Preview To Depend On Folder View?
Dec 29, 2010I want nautilus to use file preview or not depending on what the view is for that folder. I want file preview to be enabled if I am using icon view, and disabled if I am using list view. This way image folders will be previewed (because I have set such folders to icon view), and other folders wont be (because they default to list view). I also want the desktop to be always previewed.This seems like quite a simple and common-sense desire, but I cant find out anywhere how to do this. At the very least what I'd like is the ability for force preview for a folder if I want to investigate it more closely - even if I have to click a button of select something to do so.

Mar 7, 2011Short story: I have a problem with one of my services (mediatomb) - it requires an md RAID array to be mounted in order to start, because it uses files from it. $remote_fs is added by default to the "Required-Start" line of the init script, so I thought that this should be enough. However, the mediatomb service fails to start on boot, but starts just fine when I execute "service mediatomb start" later. The array is entered in /etc/fstab and is automatically mounted on boot.

This is my file server (Ubuntu Server 10.10), which has a raid array created with mdadm (mounted on /z), and the root filesystem is located on an USB thumb drive. I've installed mediatomb, but I wanted to put its database files on the raid array instead of the root fs, so I've symlinked /var/lib/mediatomb (the default path) to /z/mediatomb on the array. This is because the mediatomb DB is supposed to be updated fairly often, so I didn't want it to stay on the flash drive.
Problem is, the mediatomb service can't start on boot - in /var/log/mediatomb.log, it says "2011-03-07 19:22:47 ERROR: /var/lib/mediatomb : 20 x No such file or directory". As I said, it works fine when manually started later...
This is the fstab entry for the raid array code...
