Fedora :: Nautilus And Tracker Integration (Tag Files)
May 9, 2009
I'm playing a little bit with tracker, and I particularly like the feature that enables you to tag files. I was trying to see if there was a way to integrate it into Nautilus, and I stumbled upon this: [URL]. Which, of course, doesn't work for me! (Fedora 10). One thing to note is that they say to install python-nautilus, which I couldn't find, so I installed nautilus-python instead... just a different name for different distros or are they actually 2 different packages?
With a default 11.4 (64bit) installation with Gnome - and using the 11.4 one click installer on VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS! - the 11.3 integration seems to have worked better.
The first issue is that it's no longer automatically integrated into the right click context menu of movie files.
This integration happened in 11.3.
The second, which I think is user error but I really cannot get it to work is dragging and dropping files does not work.
-> Open Nautilus -> Navigate to folder with movie files -> Open VLC -> Click on a file in Nautilus and try and drag it onto VLC
The VLC is hidden during the file click and drag, so a drag to the bottom panel is required to try and activate VLC - however, VLC is never activated. I have tried different positions on screen but still over the VLC entry to try and activate it, but nothing happens.
This same sequence on 11.3 correctly activates VLC so I can drag and drop.
A workaround on 11.4 is to make VLC "Always on top" via the right click menu on the VLC title bar.
I have a problem with Transmission. After using it for over six months without a single problem, it suddenly stopped downloading. In the torrents that do no get downloaded, I get an error message Tracker responded: Unknown error (0) in the info window, tracker tab. But there are torrents with the same tracker that don'thave a problem and get downloaded fineThe logs don't give a clue about whats wrong either.I tried downloading those torrents with Vuze and I had the same problem. What could be wrong?
I installed RawThumbnailer that says ... 'RawThumbnailer is a thumbnailer for RAW files that works with Nautilus' but Nautilus don't show me thumbnail for RAW-files. I have 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64
I am having problems seeing files and folder names using Nautilus, but they are there as I can access them using CLI commands. Is there a way to get Nautilus to update its database or whatever it uses? I am using Nautilus 2.32.2.1. As is shown in my signature I am using F14 and Gnome 2.32.0.
I install some package, I don't know what and now my menu file of all gnome-terminal, nautilus its not show, someone know what is the packet to do this? The firefox have menu ok, only the applications like gnome-terminal hide the menu.
I have a partition that I mount as /data on all of my distros of my multi-boot machine. I am having a bear of a time figuring the right way to address permissions/groups so that any distro can use it (or any removable drive).I tried (in linuxmint) making a group '/data' and assigning the users on my machine to that group, then changing the permissions/groups of the files and folders in that mount as belonging to the /data group, then booted to fedora 15, made the /data group, added the users to that group, I'm not sure that this way will work (it doesn't seem to) or if it's the best way to proceed. some of the things I don't get are:what is the '1000' user and group?is the user/group info on (in or somehow attached) the mount itself?does this seem like a good way to do this?is there on way to 'apply permissions to enclosed files' recursively through the nautilus context menu?
Trying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.
I use the latest Fedora 14 with Evolution 2.32.1 and Tracker 0.8.17.In Evolution is the tracker plugin enabled, tracker is not indexing my email. It says in the status: Filesystem 100%, Email 0%, Applications 100% Why are the Emails in Evolution not indexed?
I installed the tracker plugin for Evolution, but it is not sending any information to the tracker search engine. The tracker icon shows that the email indexing is working but nothing happens. It shows always 0%.Does someone have an idea what the problem might be?
I was transferring data from one computer to my laptop and crash error came up on my laptop...
Error 1:
Nautilus-2.32.0-1.fc14 Reason: Process/usr/bin/nautilus was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Error 2:
Openoffice.Org-Brand Crash
Reason: Process/usr/lib/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin was killed by signal (SIGABRT)
What could be the problem? Is it serious issue? I have been having security issues with Windows and are those issues begun once again? I have been under targeted attack since 2005.
I installed tracker search tool and found it depended on evolution. Why ?If there is a evolution integration, please split it into a standalone package.
I am a new fedora user. I want to download videos from web which wee can see. In windows xp we can download it by using IDM and its advance browser integration. I have setup WINE in my PC. But I am not able to work with it. How to work with it.
I'm looking to install the Microsoft Hyper-V Linux Integration Services (IC) on F13. I'm running F13 fine on Hyper-V, but with IC I should get better performance. I've read that IC may be built-into 2.6.33 kernels, though I'm not sure if it is in F13.
I installed Fedora 15 on Hyper-V (Windows host). I installed to disk, rebooted. Now I'm off to installing the Integration services, but I've got a few problems: 1) Since it is not yet installed, it looks like the network is not functional. 2) From what I can see, I need to have a couple of things installed beforehand (GCC amoung other things)
The problem is that when I did this previously with Virtualbox, I was able to install the pre-requisites with yum. Now this won't work as I have no network. I can't use VirtualBox here at work as we have everything else running under Hyper-V so have no choice but to go this way (VB and HV can't live together on the same host). it's just so much harder to go through this installation with Hyper-V.
Since a couple of days back mostly all the folders and files I had on my download directory are not visible in Nautilus. Some of them are still there, but the majority it's like vanished. The folder is where everything I download with Transmission goes into. The tricky thing is that all those files are visible through the terminal, pcman file manager or konqueror, but not Nautilus, which is very annoying. I've tried reinstalling Nautilus from Synaptic, checking the 'show hidden files' option, checking and changing files and folder permissions and I also checked that there's no hidden instance of Nautilus running. I have Ubuntu 10.04 (upgraded from a 9.10) and the files are on a ext4 drive. Nautilus version is 2.30.1
I',m having trouble running the zotero openoffice integration plugin in F13 under the openjdk plugin. It's known top be not working as per The problem lies in some permissions as reported here -fedora-linux/However i want to know if there's any progress on it, since i dont have privilege to install it in my lab computer. Also i found this old bug reportwhich seems to have something done.If anypone has any idea please post, else i think i need to file a new bug report.EDIT: I'd be glad even if someone can guide me to write local policy (.java.policy) to enable the plugin
I use XBMC a lot and recenty i have been trying to download movies i have d/l using SABNZBDPLUS. I noticed my 320GB getting low so i tried deleting the files within the folder itself but got this message "Cannot move file to the deeted items folder, do you want to delete permanently?". Anyway i tried to delete but i guess it would not also the main folder had a lock icon on it.
So i read somewhere you can use nautilus in the terminal and once i navigated to the folder in question i pressed the delete key on my keyboard. The file is not in my trash can and i dont think is permenantly deleted as my disc space has not been reduced.
where's the nautilus app that i want to use to link to the "open containing folder" option within the download menu. For some reason it's as if it's completely forgotten it. After searching for nautilus, i didn't see one single file that looked like it was the main part of nautilus to link to, there was a myriad of files to choose from and i thought it'd be better to ask here and quicker than to try each one out myself.
often times when I browse for files from a site nautilus will open up and i can't see a picture preview of the files.this makes choosing photos to upload nearly impossible.
I've noticed since upgrading to Maverick that nautilus has become very buggy and crashes quite a bit (I've noticed it tends to happen during multiple file transfers but really it happens often and not only because of transfers).
While I've been able to tolerate this crashiness, today I came across a problem that is very distressing. If I have two files in a folder and I rename one so that it has the same filename as the other, nautilus does not display an error message. Instead what seems to happen is that it retains one file and deletes the other permanently (There seems to be nothing in the trash as far as I can tell).
Has anyone come across this error before? If you have, I'd really appreciate any advice on how to fix it.
Nautlius doesn't show all the files that are in a folder From the screenshots below you can see that there are more files in the folder (ls from the terminal shows them all), however nautilus doesn't. Other .mkv files show up in other folders so its not that
I've tired turning off previews and that didn't work. Running nautilus as root didn't work either
I'm running Gnome in Ubuntu 10.04. Nautilus used to work fine on my system but now it's doing something strange. Whenever I drag a file out of the Nautilus window to move it somewhere else, as soon as the mouse cursor goes out of the window Nautilus closes and the file I was dragging also disappears.
When I am in Nautilus, I want to be able to select a directory, then right click (or some other action) to do a file find on that directory. The gnome-search-tool would be a good candidate for this, if it could be an action in Nautilus. I know I can do a file find through other means, but Nautilus seems to be where I am when I want to search directories.
I haven't been able to find anything on the 'net about this: when running "rkhunter --enable all", I get this warning:
Code:
However, when I navigate to the gvfs-metadata folder, the home file is there, 124.8Kb in size, of unknown type and gedit can't open it. The file in /tmp/, on the other hand, doesn't exist.
Why is Terminal using a deleted file, and why is the home file being reported as deleted when it isn't?
just my setup that causes this? (Ubuntu 10.04, Nautilus 2.30.1) MS file icons in Nautilus have a specific icon (e.g. a big X on green background for XLS), but OOo files have blanks.
New subversion user here. I've run into a nasty problem. It seems that nautilus chokes any time it tries to display a directory containing .svn files. There seems to be some sort of timeout involved per object under version control. The larger the directory, the longer it takes to display. I'm talking minutes here for a fairly ordinary sized directory.
Now I know that nautilus is painfully slow even at the best of times, but this is just ridiculous. These delays are crippling. I have no problem with nautilus and svn files on my work machine, which has centos. So it looks to me like something is misconfigured somewhere. And it is something specific to .svn files.
I use nautilus and its awful. The only good thing are the tabs and the bookmarks on the cons:
* it freezes now and then when moving lots of files.
* Slow to navigate while large amounts of data are moving or displaying.
* Slow presenting of files where there are a lot of them (it should only render whatever is in screen and maybe render a properly sized navigation bar. Anything else shouldnt freeze the client. Render at its once pace if at all. I dont move the scroll bar it shouldnt freeze
* It doesnt queue (meaning it moves everything at the same time instead of queueing stuff, what makes moving stuff take longer) .
