I downloaded and installed the latest Firefox 3.6 on my Debian machine, but got this strange error when I fired it up for the first time:Code:firefox-bin: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
It scrolls jerky and sometime wont stop scrolling even after i only pushed the up or down arrow one time. it freezes up and take minuets to switch tabs or post to sites etc.Could this be a video driver issue? Or a Firefox issue? I am running Ubuntu 9.10 latest patches on and IBM R51
I upgraded to Ubuntu to 11.04, but when I now open firefox and go to localhost, some PNG images have really strange colors. This is not the case when I display the webpage in Google Chrome. I'm not sure if I will have similar problems with all PNG's, but I wouldn't be surprised. For instance, a random PNG in Firefox 4:
And the same image in Chrome: What could be the problem? How do I solve this? This only seems to hapen with alpha transparent images!
I've noticed that when I open firefox I get really strange HTTP and HTTPS connections showing up in firestarter (which as I understand it is just a GUI for IPtables). They connect to various bits of a site listed as 1e100.net (when you use "lookup hostnames") such as wy-in-f18.1e100.net, they stay connected all the time as far as I can see unless I close firefox. I've heard people say they are connected to Google, but I can close all tabs after loging out of google and still see them... it's very odd.
I am running Debian 6 & picked up a wireless nic for my desktop since I want to locate it in an area that would be a challenge to wire. I downloaded the driver and ran make and got the strange error below. I tried doing some web research but could not find anything. I also booted up the machine w/ a Ubuntu Live disk to ensure the card was good and found no issues ( I also have the same nic in my kids machine running Ubuntu 10.10. )
I don't know were this goes so I'm just gonna put it here Basically earlier today i figured i wanted to try out backtrack 4 but I could only have a maximum of 4 partitions on an hd at a time. So i deleted my partition that contained my arch home directory (didn't really have any data on it and i figured i could just make a new one later) to create an extended partition to put backtrack on. Well all went well except now when I select arch instead of backtrack i get a disk check error. This is the first part of the error, I can't exactly copy and paste it as its on my laptop. code...
i am wanting to use Firefox to connect to my smb shares. However, i keep getting this error message: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program. My client configuration is as follows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.8pre) Gecko/20100106 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Shiretoko/3.5.8preI tried the instructions below to try and fix the problem with no success: Quote: From [URL]
Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. If you use KDE, this will typically be "/usr/bin/konqueror".
I've experienced the fairly annoying firefox error where it refuses to start the GUI. If there were no active firefox processes, nothing happened when I started it, but it did "start", meaning that I got the "firefox is already running" when I tried again. I found a fix to this, which was to delete some or all files in the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory. I now have 2 different problems. Number one is that the problem keeps reoccurring and I'd like to know what's causing it. The second problem is that even when I've "fixed" the issue, I still can't run firefox from scripts or click links. I get the "firefox is already running" error instead of a new tab or window.
I am running F11 and I want to mount an FTP, but when I try to connect to an ftp server using Places -> Connect to Server, or the bookmarks I made I get an error that says 'Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No such file or directory)' and sometimes it mounts anyway, but most the time it doesn't, and it never connects to the folder I asked it to, I just have to open the mount and navigate to it. I figure this happened because Firefox upgraded to 3.5.1 and the folder is now /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.1/firefox, but I don't know how to update this so that it looks in the right location.
I disabled Xmarks and installed Firefox Sync. I tried Firefox Sync several times with no luck. I keep getting "Error While Syncing". When I check for further information, I get the message "Unable to Sync ... Unknown Error."
Xmarks still works fine but, as it is going to end soon, I would like to replace it.
After upgrading firefox with the upgrade manager I can't run phpmyadmin on my local computer with firefox. phpmyadmin works with Epiphany, just not firefox, however phpmyadmin works if I log into the server where my websites are located, so whatever the problem is it's on my local computer.I get this error after logging in
phpMyAdmin - Error

I have had 2 people ask me about this lately so I thought I would try it. They want to take a bookmark for a site and put it on their desktop. Seems easy enough - just drag the bookmark to the desktop. It works in chrome but when I tried it on 2 different pc's I get the same error: Error while copying There was an error getting information about "" Automount failed: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered I could just have them use chromium-browser I guess.
I just upgraded to 10.10 and found that when I visit the secure area of my business site, it throws an Untrusted Connection error (on FireFox). It works perfectly fine with Chromium on Ubuntu though. And it works just fine with all kinds of browsers on Windows Vista too. is this a known issue on FF with the new Ubuntu?
Problem-cannot mount 2 other samba computers on my ubuntu 10.04 via 'sudo mountall'. Additionally I now get Firefox/Thunderbird error messages as listed below. Had no problems with ubuntu UNTIL I attempted install of VirtualBox running WinXP client in my Ubuntu host. VirtualBox seemed to install ok but upon startup of WinXP client all I got was a black screen. To close it I had to do "Power Off" which VBox manual says is like a hard power off and is to be avoided. So I guess it's like I crashed XP within Ubuntu.
Now - ubuntu boots ok except will not auto mount other samba connected computers. Manually running 'sudo mountall' in terminal gives -- p { margin-bottom: 0.02in; page-break-before: auto; }p.cjk { font-size: 10pt; } swapon: /dev/disk/by-uuid/24c4c591-47ec-44f1-ac52-c0e2f5850c18: swapon failed: Device or resource busy mountall: swapon /dev/disk/by-uuid/24c4c591-47ec-44f1-ac52-c0e2f5850c18 [2235] terminated with status 255 mountall: Problem activating swap: /dev/disk/by-uuid/24c4c591-47ec-44f1-ac52-c0e2f5850c18 retrying with upper case share name mount error(6): No such device or address Refer to the mount.cifs( manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) mountall: mount /media/samba_share [2239] terminated with status 32
Additionally I now get these warning messages when Firefox and Thunderbird start. (They do start and seem to work fine.)-- Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Server ping error: IDLmg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0) p { margin-bottom: 0.02in; page-break-before: auto; }p.cjk { font-size: 10pt; } What I've tried-
1) fstab UUID matches error UUID above and matches UUID from blkid command: fstab =#Entry for /dev/sdc2 : UUID=24c4c591-47ec-44f1-ac52-c0e2f5850c18 none swap sw 0 0 p { margin-bottom: 0.02in; page-break-before: auto; }p.cjk { font-size: 10pt; } blkid = /dev/sdc2: UUID="24c4c591-47ec-44f1-ac52-c0e2f5850c18" TYPE="swap"
2) Reinstalled mountall from synaptic pkg manager; did not try to remove mountall and reinstall. To remove, removes LOTS of other packages from system - not brave enough to do that (yet).
3) Ran fsck on swap partition as below. Swap not found. (that confuses me.)p { margin-bottom: 0.02in; page-break-before: auto; }p.cjk { font-size: 10pt; } john@johndesk:~$ fsck /dev/sdc2 fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2 fsck: fsck.swap: not found fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck.swap for /dev/sdc2 p { margin-bottom: 0.02in; page-break-before: auto; }p.cjk { font-size: 10pt; } 4) deleted all the files in ~/.dbus/session-bus. Ubuntu just rebuilds the same file back.
I went to visit a website that I frequent and firefox through a error that basically said that the internet connection might be being tampered with and that the website was not authenticated. Meaning someone might be trying to load a fake website into my browser and impersonate the website to give me viruses or something. It's a website I frequent. Also the website doesn't have the www. in the url.[URL]..
I am on 11.04. Firefox suddenly stopped working after reboot. I get the error message as shown in the enclosed screen shot. Have gone in to Synaptic Package Manager to remove FF and reinstall, but I still get the same messages.
Using Update Manager this morning, I received the following error message while it was updating Firefox:
An error occured: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/ubufox_0.9.1-0ubuntu0.10.04.1~mfn3_all.deb: trying to overwrite '/etc/xul-ext/ubufox.js', which is also in package xul-ext-ubufox 0 What action should I take now?
Ubuntu shows the following error message when I try to launch Firefox "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features." No other program including Google Chrome has this problem.
After installing Lucid Lynx on a clean partition, as I usually do with all new releases, I had the idea of backing up my Firefox settings and stuff from the old installation with the Firefox plugin FEBE, to restore it into my new Firefox. It didn't go so well. I should've settled for just restoring the extensions, not settings and preferences too. Below is a copy of the Error Console, right after startup of Firefox. It seems something originally present (is it the Ubuntu One plugin?) was lost when I restored the FEBE files:
Firefox seems to suddenly dislike one of the groups i belong too, whenever i try to access it I get the following message,
Database Error: INSERT command denied to user 'usingle_210259_1'@'linweb14.atlas.pipex.net' for table 'smf_log_online' File: /websites/LinuxPackage02/si/ng/le/singlewithkids.co.uk/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs.php Line: 2602
Is this a server error, or is it my system? I have tried using a different theme but I still get the same error.I'm using the gnome classic theme ATM.
Firefox 3.6.12 on Ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop computer is reporting a "this connection is untrusted" error for sites that have security certificates provided by COMODO. Yet, the same sites work fine in Firefox 3.6.x on Windows XP, or Chromium in Ubuntu. Here is the more specific message: "The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)" The issuer is listed as "COMODO High Assurance Secure Server CA." Here are some examples that throw this error for me:[URL]... It appears that there was some controversy with COMODO and Mozilla (due to bad behavior by COMODO) in the past, but all I can find on that indicates that this should be not an issue any longer.
