Jun 8, 2011I have a dedicated server running Ubuntu-server Jaunty. As you know, this OS no longer has security updates. I'm trying to upgrade it to the latest LTS (Lucid) but first thing's first: I'm having trouble upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic.
Here's the problem. I get the following when I try do-release-upgrade:

force an upgrade to Karmic instead of Lucid? (And no, sadly, re-installing is not an option as this is a server with no direct physical access)

May 31, 2011I have been windows using for over years and now after seeing Linux in couple of colleagues desk, I liked and have installed Linux in my home desktop (Fedora 14). After installing Fedora 14, I tried upgrading my browser Firefox from 3.6.17 (which came by default) to Firefox 4.0. I googled and got the procedure for upgrading tirefox. from this link [URL]. I followed the exact steps and while I tried to install I get the following error. I tried enough to get rid of this problem but all attempts in vain.
The Error that I get is:

Ubuntu Installation :: Jaunty 9.04 Updated And Now Firefox Died
Feb 8, 2010I have Jaunty 9.04 and I was sitting online yesterday and the update manager came up. I let it do its thing as usual, but it seemed to have an issue with some firefox related package (having to do with branding?) and then the little flipping-out icon showed up in my tray saying that a package broke. It did not, and the firefox launcher turned into a missing puzzle brick and clicking it causes a small window to come up with the following message:

So I might have tried to uninstall firefox from synaptic or something, but this just created more errors and I don't think it worked properly anyway. Inside Synaptic, there is one listed as a "broken" package in the broken filter. It is something to do with Firefox Branding AMD64 and all that goodness.

sudo enforce firefox"
However in Lubuntu 11.04 the "sudo enforce firefox" command does no longer work. It looks like the enforce command is no longer recognised.

Oct 11, 2010I upgraded to ubuntu 10.10 yesterday, and now I have no bookmarks, no addons, and my preferences are reset.I figured I just had to reinstall all of the addons, but it's not letting me. It lets me download the addons, but as soon as I click "install addon" from the box that pops up, it goes to the addons dialog.However, it doesn't say "You must restart firefox to complete the installation" like it usually does, and there is no indication that I have installed anything at all. I've tried many times with many different addons, and it doesn't let me install any of them. Is anyone else having this issue?

But I can save files (with standard downloadmanager of firefox) e.g. in $HOME itself and I can't find any other rule, which could allow that. I have thing, that ecryptfs workaround just affects the eCryptFS "part of things" and limitations of normal filenames/paths (in mounted ecryptfs) are still possible. Why can firefox write elsewhere as in to ${HOME}/Downloads? I get also this in kern.log (but not by saving a file as wrote above):

Aug 9, 2011I have quiet splash disabled so I can see what boot processes are run on startup, and I notice that on every time I boot my computer the Firefox profile is skipped. Here's the message: Code: Skipping profile in /etc/ apparmor.d/disable: usr.bin.firefox,I checked /etc/apparmor.d/disable, and see that there is indeed a link to usr.bin.firefox. So I'm wondering how/why it got there. I haven't touched anything in AppArmor since my clean install of Natty.

May 26, 2010Several days ago I posted a query about the effects of upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 in regards to Thunderbird/Firefox emails and settings. I wondered if I would lose all of my emails, addresses, bookmarks if I make this upgrade. So far there have been no responses. Maybe it is such a dumb question that no one cares to take the time to respond. I understand that I can save addresses as ldif files and I can save bookmarks and re-import them, and I can save my profile (which should contain all of my old emails), but I've never gotten the profile thing to work properly.

No heavy CPU usage when restoring from minimized and a general performance boost were the results of that use.But recently made an upgrade and realized that xserver-xorg-core package (check it from synaptic manager) has been upgraded to a jaunty-proposed version and the problems started to appear again!So using Synaptic I selected this package and hit CTRL-E key in order to choose the nobackfill version. This way things got back to normal!

Feb 8, 2010I only began using Linux with the release of FC8. I've upgraded into every new version (upgrade, no clean installs), after the new versions had been out a while. I struggle with command lines, updates, cups and other very cool tools that are only difficult because they have so many options. I'm Windows guy at work, a system admin and db administrator, plus the company expert on Excel. But, all in all, I hate Windows, and I'm loving Fedora, even if I struggle.
This last upgrade really kicked me in the pants. The first thing I noticed was all of my software sources were gone. I did some research around the forum and tried a few things, but it's still not working. Unfortunately, I may have uninstalled Yum in the process, but not rpm. I've tried to re-install the yum packages, but still no luck.
This morning before leaving for work I noticed that a boot log indicated that cups had failed. I went in to restart the service (through gui) and it said it was running. So I stopped the service and re-started. I tried to access port 631 through Firefox and it wouldn't open. I need to check the firewall to see if it's an open port, but beyond that I don't know.
Now I'm wondering if I should just do a clean install. I haven't done this, mainly because I didn't want to hassle with setting up my printer again (although, it's a Brother and they have the drivers and good instructions), and I didn't want to lose any emails that I've received via Thunderbird. The printer is really a non-issue now, as I'll have to set it up anyway. I have a backup of the /usr folder and all the documents. Question is, if I restore the Thunderbird folder after a clean install, would it bring back my email?

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
And then drops out of the upgrade utility

Mar 7, 2010Ubuntu 9.10 stops booting with apparmor profiles failed to load error message in recovery mode.In the usual mode it hangs at the logo stage.I tried all the kernels listed but the boot process hangs every time.I searched for a solution but could not find it. Windows 7 boots fine.I haven't installed grub to the MBR.I had to reinstall the windows bootloader but I am not sure if it's related to the problem.I would like not to reinstall the os.
