hi, first i'd like to say that i'm totally new to linux, i was allways using windows.
as i was allways unable to install a good and stable ssh-server on windows, i thought it is time to change to linux. i was able to set up and configure a ssh-server on debian but found out, that fedora 15 looks more userfriendly in first place for me. but now i unfortunately experience problems..
the ssh server was already installed, i changed the service setting to that it starts automatically but after i succesfully connected to the LAN, i cannot access the shh via putty for instance. when i type "service sshd status" it says beside other things: active (running). but when i look at the /var/log/messages, it says those two lines:
sshd.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=255 Unit sshd.service entered failed state.
i searched on google without success, the only thing i found was that someone had the same problem with a bad sshd_config file, but i'm pretty sure that everything is alright with my config-file (i checked it several times).
beside this i cant login on the gui, after the firefox update (??) it always says: a problem has occured and the system can't recover bla bla... so i can only use fedora right now commandline-based.. but with this problem i will deal later on...
Like the title stated Anyone with experience or suggestion, please do share. I've tinkered all night with this thing. Never get the VBox service I created to start. Here is my final code before I dried my brain.
From what I've read, it appears that the respawn stanza in /etc/init/mysql.conf would give me the restart option if the daemon crashes, but I want to make sure other safety features of mysqld_safe are present as well.My /etc/init/mysql.conf is the original. I've tried changing the exec stanza from /usr/sbin/mysqld to /usr/sbin/mysqld_safe but the job fails when I sudo service mysql start.mysql.conf
Has anyone got a working apache upstart script? I'm running 10.04, and want the nice supervision stuff from upstart to run my apache instance. I've googled (especially for things like replacement-initscripts) but not hit anything concrete.
Updated two SSH packages today and now SSHd wont start. Worked fine an hour ago, and I'm still logged onto the server via pre-existing SSH sessions, but now I obviously cannot start new ones.
Code: paine@pandora:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start * /dev/null is not a character device! paine@pandora:~$
I am getting following error messages when trying to re-start the apache2 on Ubuntu Server 10.04. it's the installation media or the ISO is broken because i have reburned / redownloaded the fedora14 multiple times with the same result. I even tried burning the disc on a different computer just to make sure the burner is still working. This is the error i am getting when the "Starting installation Process" dialog displayed.
"The file upstart-sysvint.0.65.9.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source" I remember fedora 13 and below i have to use nousb command or something similar to get fedora installed properly but not for fedora 14. It just pops up with the message above.
i am using ubuntu 10.10. I had installed apache2 and subversion, using webdav, as described in the unbuntu wiki. SVN was working as expected, I could commit files, etc. I then installed php5 and mysql, as described in the ubuntu wiki, and i now get the following on apache restart:
apache2: Syntax error on line 203 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 2 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/dav_svn.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_dav_svn.so into server: /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2: symbol krb5_authdata_context_copy, version krb5_3_MIT not defined in file libkrb5.so.3 with link time reference Action 'configtest' failed.
I go and restart ssh and I get this weird message. thought I should be getting ok or fail message, at least thats how I remember it. What do you think?nate@universal-mechanism:~$ sudo service ssh restart
I'm setting up a svn server and would like users to share home dir. One problem is how to get sshd to identify the correct rsa key for the different users that shares the same .ssh folder. Will sshd even look for the key in a folder that isn't owned by the user trying to login?
I recently installed Fedora 13 on VMware 7 environment without X window. sshd did work fine, but when I tried to put it into xinetd, it doesn't work any more. Here is what I have done so far :
I stopped sshd. #service sshd stop
and I configured xinetd.conf like below.
Quote:
# # This is the master xinetd configuration file. Settings in the # default section will be inherited by all service configurations # unless explicitly overridden in the service configuration. See # xinetd.conf in the man pages for a more detailed explanation of # these attributes.
[Code]....
I don't know what I did wrong with them. I configured xinetd.conf, and I made service configuration file 'ssh' in /etc/xinetd.d, and I restarted xinetd.
What am I supposed to do to make a life on my sshd within xinetd ?
I've got an Ubuntu Server 10.10 with Bacula. Bacula is not using Upstart at boot time, it is started using legacy init.d scripts. MySQL on the other hand uses Upstart. This causes MySQL to start after Bacula, thus preventing Bacula director from connecting to the MySQL database - causing an error.I've tried to change the order of the init.d scripts in /etc/rc2.d, giving mysql the prefix S20 and bacula prefixes ranging from S90-S93, but to no avail. The bacula scripts are still loading before MySQL. how to configure the order of boot scripts when using both Upstart and legacy init.d scripts?
My situation I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server on a virtual machine. I installed apache2, php and mysql-server. Several vhosts I sat up are running fine and I can also connect to the MySQL server using the mysql command-line client. I now want to setup PhpMyAdmin to allow the vhosts owners to administrate their DBs. I installed the package using:
Code: apt-get install phpmyadmin I answered the questions and accepted the creation of the phpmyadmin database. The install finished successfully. I did a small modification to the main website vhost to access it easily: Code: Alias /phpmyadmin /usr/share/phpmyadmin
i have a problem with my server, it was rebooted to get a special upgrade and it never turned on again. the support told me it's giving grub error 15, file not found. my server is a debian lenny 5 32bit one in raid 1. my menu.lst is:
I use red hat linux. When I start up network service. I get below error in eth2 root@vls etc]# service network restart Shutting down interface eth2: [OK] Shutting down loopback interface: [OK] Bringing up loopback interface: [OK] Bringing up interface eth2: RTNETLINK answers: File exists Error adding address 10.1.1.82 for eth2. [OK]
I paste the ifcfg-eth2 in here [root@vls network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-eth2 # Intel Corporation 82572EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper) DEVICE=eth2 BOOTPROTO=none BROADCAST=10.1.255.255 HWADDR=00:80:82:8F:B4:A2 IPADDR=10.1.1.82 NETMASK=255.255.0.0 NETWORK=10.1.0.0 ONBOOT=yes GATEWAY=10.1.1.249 TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=yes IPV6INIT=no PEERDNS=yes So, what is the problem of error adding address?
I have Win XP SP2 installed on my machine. I wanted to try Ubuntu and i created a CD an and wanted to install the OS. The CD booted and i selected the option of "using The OS together and selecting which one to boot" or something similar to that. Ubuntu and changed MBR and installed itself. However on restarting I am getting Error 18. Now i am unable to use my computer at all.
In recover my XP at the moment and how to install Linux so that it does not mess around with any other OS?
I downloaded and installed the latest Firefox 3.6 on my Debian machine, but got this strange error when I fired it up for the first time:Code:firefox-bin: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
My installation went fine. Apache, PHP, and MYSQL all work independently. My trouble getting PHP to serve MySQL content. The first thing I did was look in the PHP.INI file to check that it was set up correctly. Then I discovered my install of PHP does not have the expected directives, namely extension_dir or any DLL comments where I can enable MYSQL. Instead my config file has a PHP.D directory. In that directory there are no files for MYSQL. I look at the PHP.net site and I can't find any info on how to write this file. And there's the issue of the missing extension_dir directive.
As I said, I visited the PHP.net site and could not find any specific manual pages explaining this change to PHP 5.2.11. I downloaded "the latest php.ini" development file from the site. As near as I can tell its for PHP 6.0.0 and it does have the extension_dir directive, and it still uses the DLLs in Dynamic Extensions section. (EDITED= The introduction of the PHP.INI file doesn't give a version number, however later under error handling there is a note: "as of PHP 6.0.0"). Why I can't find more information about this on any forum or at PHP.net?
I am running Debian 6 & picked up a wireless nic for my desktop since I want to locate it in an area that would be a challenge to wire. I downloaded the driver and ran make and got the strange error below. I tried doing some web research but could not find anything. I also booted up the machine w/ a Ubuntu Live disk to ensure the card was good and found no issues ( I also have the same nic in my kids machine running Ubuntu 10.10. )
I don't know were this goes so I'm just gonna put it here Basically earlier today i figured i wanted to try out backtrack 4 but I could only have a maximum of 4 partitions on an hd at a time. So i deleted my partition that contained my arch home directory (didn't really have any data on it and i figured i could just make a new one later) to create an extended partition to put backtrack on. Well all went well except now when I select arch instead of backtrack i get a disk check error. This is the first part of the error, I can't exactly copy and paste it as its on my laptop. code...
I'm having a problem with my ubuntu 9.10 machine. I can ssh out of the computer, but not in. I have /etc/init.d/ssh, but not /etc/init.d/sshd - don't know if this is normal If I run /etc/init.d/ssh status I get: robot@cora:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh status * could not access PID file for sshd
If I run /etc/init.d/ssh restart (or stop then start) then I can ssh both ways. But I cannot get this to work automatically at boot. The machine is going to be in a remote location, so I need the ability to ssh INTO it after reboot, which I don't have. I have confirmed that start files are located in /etc/rc3.d/S16ssh
I've uninstalled and reinstalled openssh-server (via "apt-get remove openssh-server" and "apt-get install openssh-server") and this did not help. There are both /etc/ssh/ssh_config and /etc/ssh/sshd_config files that look like they are standard (compared to what I've found from web searches). /etc/init.d/ssh is also standard.
