I just upgraded to 10.10 and found that when I visit the secure area of my business site, it throws an Untrusted Connection error (on FireFox). It works perfectly fine with Chromium on Ubuntu though. And it works just fine with all kinds of browsers on Windows Vista too. is this a known issue on FF with the new Ubuntu?

I got this error (see the pic from this link [URL]) when opening google account, face book, etc. Some guys suggested to check the system time and make sure the computer time is same as the local time. According to this hint, I run the command "sudo tzselect" and choose "Europe -> Dublin" (Im in Dublin), then restart PC. However, the error still pops up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was recently connecting securely to the website where I have my mail account, and I connected through Tor. When doing so firefox presents me with the screen saying that the connection is untrusted and it can't verify the certificate. So I cancelled. I'm using torbutton and I turned torbutton to off and connected again with no problem. Then with torbutton on again, same thing (untrusted).
Is it possible the exit node I was going through is doing a man in the middle attack? However later when connecting through tor I did NOT get the warning about the site being untrusted. I really don't know what exit node I was using when I got the certificate warning and what exit node I was using when I did not recieve the warning. I don't know how long I stay on the same node or how/when it changes.
I installed LDOCE5 on Unbuntu 10.04, but when run file ldoce5.desktop then there a message:

A few weeks ago, i installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I installed several of my previously used programs and am now having trouble with the update manager. It refuses to download updates; insisting that it does not trust the source. The details in the error message indicate that the problem is with a package for Banshee Media Player. So I'm thinking this should work now. However in Chrome I get: SSL connection error Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have. Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. IE8 gives me a typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Note that [URL] fails while [URL] works fine, so it's definitely something in my ssl setup I'm thinking.
I got an error while working with NetworkManager in new RHEL6/ Fedora14. I have a ZTE AC 2726 3G wireless modem. i had tried to connect it via NetworkManager . but i can terminate the ping manually using ctrl+c when i terminate the ping usual message appears stating 10 packets transmitted, 100% loss
ps: when i go to node3 and ssh to node2 it works fine and also i can ping from node3 to node2 very fine. and the firewalls are down at all nodes -all wired connection over a switch

View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to start using videos/music files downloaded from untrusted sources (BT,Sharing Forums, etc.). Haven't made this a habit b4 because of the security risks. I want to take steps to reduce the risk & protect my computer from anything malicious. What are some good choices for this? The biggest step I took so far is using Ubuntu since it's very virus resistant, but other threats do exist out there (rootkits, malicious scripts, etc.). When downloading files from untrusted sources, who knows what may be hidden inside.Some options I'm thinking about:
1) Using a VM (with Ubuntu installed inside) & playing the files inside the VM. If anything malicious happen, it would be trapped inside & I could easily revert to a clean snapshot.
2) Using AppArmor to restrict what the files or program used to play the files can/can't do. AA seems very complicated though.
Are the above overkill? Would it be sufficient enough to just open these files on a non-admin user account since no access to root or sudo?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am facing some strange problem of mysql replication with ssl, my replications which working fine from more than 6 months currently stopped working after i upgrade mysql in to newver version mysql-5.1.41-2, i create new ssl self singed certs but still no sucess, when client try to connect the master using ssl its gives error SSL connection error ERROR 2026 (HY000), with out ssl its working f9.
Platform --> Fedora-11 + mysql-5.1.41-2 (both master/client)

Both server and clients certs are signed with same ca but still its currently not working after the mysql upgrade first 5.1.41 and then 5.1.41-2
Either as above bugzilla url, currently mysql support ssl replication or not, or either some need to do special for working with ssl. or i wait for newver version of mysql to fix if its bug or not.
What if someone tampered with some important security updates, and suddenly you get a rootkit instead?

However, rather than give up on it completely, I have an idea: create a profile that I could use as a template for any untrusted application, with the aim of 1) blocking it from network access and 2) blocking it from installing other applications. I've got as far as creating an empty profile:

i am a relativelly new user of ubuntu, i have a ubuntu 9 ( i think) on a aone.i am not in the fan club of last updaters, if it works, it's ok.when i try to install (from software center) some softwares, it gives me an error, untrusted packages.i feel it is something like an abuse, at least, bring to the user the possibility to install "untrusted packages" with a button. AT LEAST!because i think it is not normal to don't be able o install blender, remember ubuntu is a linux, then blender should work on.i tested to install many mounth ago, when i i stalled the last version (9.xxx), and it did the same, then i think it is not an update problem at all.
