Ubuntu :: Firefox 4 Strange PNG Colors Since 11.04?
May 2, 2011
I upgraded to Ubuntu to 11.04, but when I now open firefox and go to localhost, some PNG images have really strange colors. This is not the case when I display the webpage in Google Chrome. I'm not sure if I will have similar problems with all PNG's, but I wouldn't be surprised. For instance, a random PNG in Firefox 4:
And the same image in Chrome: What could be the problem? How do I solve this? This only seems to hapen with alpha transparent images!

About an hour ago I completed the Network upgrade to Maverick from Lucid. Immediately I see some changes over Lucid: my computer can now hibernate successfully, a feature that worked in Hardy, but was broken in Karmic and Lucid. But a small annoyance is the strange colors. There is an abundance of purple colors in icons, in links, in indicators. I have attached a small snapshot of my browser. The circled purple area should be blue in normal contions.

I have sucessfully installed Debian 8 stable onto a powermac G5 with and Nvidia FX5200 graphics card, and got the graphics up and running using the nouveau.modeset=0 kernel parameter. However, now the screen is showing completely messed up graphics. The kernel parameters that I have set are: nouveau.modeset=0 and video=TV-1:d.
I've now tried other Desktop environments and they too are messed up. Even window maker is messed up.

After upgrading to Natty/Unitiy I was having problems with very slow and choppy window motion. I tried reinstalling fglrx, and now some of the colors in firefox are coming out inverted (e.g. yellow -> purple) or perhaps just scrambled in some other way (see attached screenshot). There are no other issues I've seen other than some colors in firefox. Most colors look okay.
I downloaded chromium and there are no problems with colors there. I've also upgraded to the latest fglrx drivers from the ATI website and nothing changed. I also uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and still the colors are coming out strangely. Some info. I have an HP Pavilion tx2500ca, with ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics].

a few months ago, I installed Ubuntu Studio 10.4 x64 edition on my computer, and I was able to invert the colors in Firefox by pressing "Windows-Key + M".Since I updated to the latest Ubuntu Studio release, 11.x, via the upgrade function, this inverting of colors does not work any more. How can I do it now ? PS: I'm using Firefox 4.0.1 right now - maybe I was using Firefox 3.6 (I don't recall it exactly) under Ubuntu 10.4 and hence it's got something to do with the browser rather than the OS ?

I've noticed that when I open firefox I get really strange HTTP and HTTPS connections showing up in firestarter (which as I understand it is just a GUI for IPtables). They connect to various bits of a site listed as 1e100.net (when you use "lookup hostnames") such as wy-in-f18.1e100.net, they stay connected all the time as far as I can see unless I close firefox. I've heard people say they are connected to Google, but I can close all tabs after loging out of google and still see them... it's very odd.

I was wondering if it is possible to specify a custom color theme that Ubuntu should apply to one application only. Specifically, I want to customize the tooltop color for Eclipse.
Fwiw, the reason I want to do this is that karmic's ambiance theme provides black tooltip backgrounds with white tooltop text, but eclipse (stupidly) uses the black tooltip background for content assist boxes while ignoring the tooptip text color and instead applying its own sytnax highlighting rules, which specify black text. This results in black text on a black background -- ugh!

I tried evince, okular and foxit reader for linux and wasn't able to change background and foreground colours with them. I'm able to do this with foxit reader for windows, so unless I find something that runs natively on ubuntu, I'll try running it under wine.

I am trying to use the ncurses library for a little side project and am currently trying to display text with varying colors on the screen. I would like for my program to be able to change the hues of the default colors(e.g. make red a little dark, blue a little lighter, etc).
However, according to the ncurses function can_change_color() my terminal does not allow for colors to be altered. I know how to change the palette of colors that my terminal is using but I was wondering if there was a way to allow my colors to be "editable" in a sense.
My terminal is Gnome 2.30.2 and I'm running Ubuntu 10.04LTS

I'm getting very frustrated and confused with conky-colors. I was reading OMGubuntu, and saw that Conky Colors 7 had been release and it looked pretty [URL]pt to install it from that page, but got hopelessly confused. I would really just like some step by step, noob friendly instructions. I managed to do these first two steps though:"$sudo apt-get install aptitude python-keyring python-statgrab ttf-ubuntu-font-family hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all
$sudo chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp"

I noticed as I was watching a video that the colors are totally off. I don't have any problems with the Monitor or the display of websites, it's only videos that aren't displayed correctly. Could that be due to the graphic card? I thought about updating the drivers but since I did that when I installed Ubuntu and had the problem from the beginning I wonder what it could be.

I recently upgraded my girlfriend laptop to 9.10 and now, for some odd reason, when she plays DVDs on her laptop (the most recent attempt was the latest Harry Potter movie) the movie would play back fine but the colors for everything were way off. I've re-added the medibuntu software sources to her system and applied all available updates but it didn't help.
This problem did not occur on my own computer when attempting to play the exact same DVD.

I have upgraded to Lucid and I am using the Ambiance theme. Its all great apart from aptana's code suggest seems to be a bit odd. I have seen this thread but cannot reply to it. [URL]. Is there any update? Is this an ubuntu theme thing I need to edit or can I change one of the hundred aptana options?

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and now the colors are off. I tried different themes which made some of the tabs more readable, but I don't see how to fix it. Things like background colors in Firefox are too light to see. The same for the grid lines in OpenOffice.org Spreadsheets. Form fields are not outlined. If you don't know where they are you have to hunt by dragging the pointer over the area.
Images look OK.
Does this sound like something others have seen?

In 10.04 Lucid my Nautilus scroll bars are white. The scroll bar slider (the icon that can be moved up and down with the cursor to scroll the window) is the exact same shade of white and the slider outline is pale grey. The lack of color contrast makes the slider hard to see. Is there a preference item somewhere that lets me change this color scheme?
I expected to find it in System >> Preferences >> Appearance >> Theme but I don't think there's anything there about the scroll bars. I think my monitor might be more contrasty than most, which is probably exacerbating the problem, but this is what I have to work with. I would rather fix it by changing a system setting than replacing the monitor.

Alright, this has been driving me bonkers for months now and I can't find the answer anywhere. I like the custom theme options with standard gnome just fine, plenty of adjustments that can be made, with only one adjustment missing which would create perfection (at least in my opinion).
How on earth is it possible to change the backgrounds of the "mini-panels" which are always grey by default? No matter which Theme I choose and customize, I can never get the background color of the time/date applet, monitors, evolution, garbage can, and so on to change. I'd like to make all of the backgrounds transparent, not just the main panels that contain the other stuff. Is this even possible, and if so, how?I'm assuming since all of those apps have the same default color that an adjustment "wherever" would then change those default colors on all of the applets (hopefully).

I am having trouble with virtual hosts. The system is not recognizing their existence. In the process of trying to determine the problem (when I do a command of "ls -l" for the sites enabled folder) I noticed that the new symbolic links for the two sites in question show the directories and files linked to in green. The one link that does work (the default link set up with the system install) is in white.
Is there any significance attached to the colors? I would think they should be the same as the working one.

I have version 10.10 installed on both a desktop and a laptop. They are both close in how I setup the themes etc. However on the desktop I notice that I am missing some of the background colors on windows and in some websites. It seems to be anything using a blue/gray color. And it is White. It is noticeable on my Firefox on the laptop the borders around everything is gray, but on the desktop these are white. This seems to be not limited to the browser, as I investigated it is on all apps. I have googled this but cannot find a similar situation. I am also new to Ubuntu/Linux, which adds to my dilemma.

I want to know some PDF program for Ubuntu 10.10 so that I can highlight text with different colors as I read it and so that I can save it as intact as highlighted so that I will not have to rehighlight the same thing again and again when I open it. I have tried may softwares including the foxit pdf reader that has got the highlighting the text in windows version which is of course free of cost. But I didn't find it in the Ubuntu based Foxit reader version.
