Ubuntu :: Software To Convert And Burn Dual Layer Media?
May 21, 2010
Am slowly parting company with MS Windows. I have been using this app to convert, burn, and then be able to play on most all DVD players, ConvertXtoDVD. Is there something I can use in Ubuntu that is fairly easy? Also would like something in Ubuntu to convert and burn to Dual Layer media and then play on standard DVD players.
I use Bluewhite64, a Slackware64 derivative. Next, I don't use KDE or GNOME. What free tools (command line ok) would do this job? Examples would be nice, too. Most of my HD recordings are approximately 7 GB.
I can't burn dvds double layer at all. I managed to ruin 3 DVDs so far (DVD burner from fedora says an error unknown appeared and that burn failed. I tried with Gnomebaker and I got:
[Code]...
If you need more info, tell me what you need (also what command to use) and I will write it. I am wondering whether the problem is with the DVDs or if it's a hardware problem.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and I cant read dual layer DVD's. When I put the disk in it spins and makes clicking sound sometimes. It shows up in Places as "Myfiles". If i try to mount it it "DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending". If i try to eject "DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending".
I have downloaded both the 32 bit and the 64bit version of slackware, I have a dual layer dvd and I was thinking to put both versions on one dvd! I just want to be able to choose which one to install with a simple menu. How can I do this?
I have searched (and searched and searched), but believe I have now used all remaining brain cells. I have Natty (dual boot XP). I have a 700MB avi file.ice on my computer(s), but I would like to play it on my home dvd player with big screen tv. Seems simple enough, in theory, get DeVeDe*, create ISO, use Brasero, burn DVD, play DVD. Well so much for theory...DeVeDe says I first need 'remove' Libavcodec52, Libavutil50, etc. So I go to 'remove' these pieces and I then get message "to remove Libavcodec52, these items must be removed as well:" This includes VLC and vlc-nox and Ffmpeg plug in! I don't currently use VLC, but understand that is a very good player to have.Is it really this complicated to get to watch an avi on my dvd player? I must be missing something obvious. and yes, I am also confused on the required "dependencies." Like where to get them, why, do I really need them, etc.
Having some troubles with NEC AD5170A device - it can`t read any dual layer disks. First layer reading is ok, but when drive switching to second layer it stops and don`t read any data from disk. Media - licensed DVD video disks. Same drive in windows read everything. I try to update firmware, but it doesn`t.
i have a AVI file and i use DEVEDE and click on the first one "video dvd" then add file (i go it it and click on the file) setup ntsc then advanced options create iso ready to burn to disk click forward asks me where i want to put it (i use default) then after a while i have an iso file there --- to burn i just click and drag that iso file to a blank dvd and it burn it i have also tried K3B after i have my iso file i open k3b and use all defalt settings and burn it and i get the same results wrong disk when i put it in my dvd player.
im trying to send pages of 4096 bytes from kernel layer of server to kernel layer of client over a network. previously i tried the foll. code , for data less than a 100 bytes it worked fine , but for something larger than that the computer hangs......(even the dmesg's wont say why) i also wanted to know how we could use the 'sendpage' function to solve this problem.
seen this or have suggestions on how to fix this. I can read the original disks but I cannot read the backup. The backup disc was burned on Window$ using Nero.I am trying to read the disc using both VLC and Totem but you can see in /var/log/messages there is an issue with reading the disc. This disc is readable in the Window$ box and on all DVD stand alone players.

Used DeVeDe to take a Avi that was 700mb which is now a 2gb iso file which will open fine with VLC player with the custom menu I made and the movie plays fine but K3b will not burn the to the media and I tried several blank disk of the same media now and no luck. I don't have any other media to try but this same media worked fine with K3b before and recent so I don't know but I never tried it using it like this before meaning with DeVeDe.
I am looking for a video converter that will convert AVI into DVD format to burn a disc. I had a program called convert X for windows 7 and with that I was able to make menu's for the DVD and when it finished converting, it would burn it to a disc.
my brother was trying to burn some dvds, and he asked me about capacity. I told him that they only held 4.7 GB, but he found some that advertised 8 GB and 8.5 GB. Then, I saw the wikipedia article. According to that, there are even 17 GB disks? I knew about Dual Layer but not all this. Is the capacity dependent on the burn settings or the DVD media itself? I have a newer SATA DVD burner, so it should support everything.
I search a tool to convert my media files to ogg-files. I've managed to to do so with VLC - but only file by file. Is there a way to just convert whole folders to ogg. Even if the files contained are in a lot of different formats?
I have these file systems for my linux distro. I dual boot with another OS that has its own file system. My primary disk drive has ten(10) partitions of various sorts to implement this. If I boot Linux, is there some way to point the virtualization parts at those other file systems to boot rather than load other different files into Linux file space?
Clearly, I'm missing something in how Wine, VirtualBox and similar virtualization currently happens. But what I describe above surely seems more attractive.
TV hardware, convert a windoze XP media centre to a Linux os system. Windows XP Media center , a nice box but need to move on, the motherboard fried on the piece of S HP box but after replacing it my TV tuner card will not be recognized by Linux. MythTV doesnot or will not see it.
I'm trying to get a dual boot system. [URL] So i'm just following it. But but when i try to load Linux from the NTLDR i just get this error: BootPart 2.60 Bootsector (c) 1993-2005 Gilles Vollant [URL] Loading new partition Bootsector from C.H. Cannot load from harddisk. Insert Systemdisk and press any key.
I've currently got a Dual-boot of Windows 7 SP1 and Ubuntu 10.10, I'm wanting to wipe off the Windows 7 and keep my Current Ubuntu 10.10 (And ofc add the extra space from the Win7 Partition)I had Win7 Installed first and I used this Guide --> [URL] Below is an image of how my hard drive is partitioned currently.
I was trying to change the mounting point of a usb external drive from '/media/disk' to '/media/Movies'
Here is were the stupid part takes over... I right clicked on the desktop icon for the device and selected Properties. From there I selected the Volume tab and in there I changed the mounting point to '/media/Movies' It accepted it and said the changed would take place when I unmounted it and remounted it. However, when I did this it now says it cannot be mounted as it says mount_point contains invalid characters usually /
Unfortunately, now I cannot get back into the properties to remove my error.
