But mkisofs, after working up to the middle of the process, said: 'File size limit exceeded'. I don't want to burn on the fly and therefore

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Accidentally Turned Double-layered DVD To Single-layer?

Every time I right click on my CD/DVD with my DVD+RW popped in the drive, it freezes for like 10 minutes and then it unfreezes with nothing happening.I think I formatted it before using ImgBurn but when I did it went from 4.7GB capacity to 3GB. Is it possible that I accidentally turned my double-layered DVD to single-layer? If so is there a way to turn it back to double-layer?

Hardware :: Performance Difference - Dual Versus 3 Channel RAM

Apr 12, 2009

There are 3 channel DDR-3 RAM kits available on market.Would its performance be better than dual channel RAM kit, apart from RAM capacity? I'm planning to build a new box testing server consolidation on virtualizaion running Xen/Vserver/OpenVZ as software. All servers running 64bit Linux OS. My new planning is to get 2 sets DDR-3 1333/1600 4Gx2 kit. I may consider 3 channel kit dropping the total RAM capacity to 6G if it has better performance. Besides can mobo support dual channel RAM also allowing 3 channel RAM to work on it without sacrifying performance?

Hardware :: Kernel Double Fault, Laptop Froze On Distro / Getting Error Double Fault: 0000 [#1] SMP?

Jun 19, 2010

My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.

Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

double fault: 0000 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file:
CPU 0
odules linked in:
Pid: 1, co m: swapper Not ta nted 2.6.32.11-99.fc 2.x86_64 #VGN-T 250N
RIP: 0010:[<ff

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.

As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

Programming :: Moving Files Up A Directory Layer?

Jan 3, 2011

find . -type f -name "*" -print0 | xargs -0 --replace=% mv % `pwd`

works fine at moving all files anywhere below the current directory to the current directory.

My question is can it be modified so it only moves all the files up one directory layer? Otherwise I shall have to cd 100 or so times and run it in each directory i want to compress...

I imagine the directory below which the file is stored is in the % somewhere it is just a case of extracting it and applying it to the mv command, yes?

General :: Remove Background Layer Of Djvu File?

Jan 11, 2011

I've downloaded some files from the Internet Archive. They come in different file formats and most of the time I use pdf. However, sometimes the scans are saves in colour instead of b/w. This makes it difficult/impossible to read on a dedicated ebook reader. In that case I downloaded the djvu files as on the PC you can select which layer (color, bw,fore, back) one would like to see. Selecting the bw gives excellent results. However, the ebook reader does not has this option.

The question is, how can I remove /extract a layer from the djvu file and save only this layer.

So far I've tried the following two approaches:

1) select bw in the djvu viewer on the PC and printed to postscript file. Followed by a ps2pdf conversion. This works, but generates a fairly large pdf file. Sure, I can again upload it to any2djvu but it just seems to much manual work for each file.

2) I tried the shared annotation feature and said (mode bw). This works on the PC as desired but is ignored on the ebook reader as the other layers are still present.

Networking :: IP Layer Link Aggregation Without Switch Support

Sep 2, 2010

I'm looking for a way (kernel patches, configuration, etc) to bond multiple network interfaces together but for limited purposes. Here's the setup. Machines A, B, C, and D each have 4 NICs, each of which are on separate unmanaged switches. The connections are made in a corresponding way. e.g. eth0 of each machine are connected via switch 0, eth1 are connected via switch 1, etc. There are also other machines which have only one NIC and are connected to switch 0 only. All NICs for A/B/C/D and the switches are gigabit speed. The remaining machines have a low traffic level. Machines A/B/C/D need the extended bandwidth. And this bandwidth need usually involves only one connection at a time.

E.g. machine A transferring files to machine C with no other traffic going on. The speed need is to cut the transfer times from several hours to few hours (such as 8 hours to 2 hours). Transfers of up to a few terabytes at a time are involved. IEEE 802.1AX won't accomplish this. It requires special support from a single switch that all connection go to (raising costs and reducing reliability). Also, from technical details of 802.1AX, it appears that a decision process is made for which traffic goes over which physical link based on destination information. It's unclear what impact this will have, but it looks like at least a single TCP connection cannot use all physical links.

And possibly all traffic from host A to host B is limited to a physical link (not any better than a round robin of crossover cables). What I am looking for is something that works entirely on an end-to-end basis within a LAN. If it works at the link layer, that could be OK as long as it doesn't have the limitations of 802.1AX. Working at the IP layer would be OK, too (as I can already envision the logic of how to make that work). This might be an experimental patch to the Linux kernel if anyone has tried it. I have not dug into kernel source to see what might be in there, yet, but will eventually do that if there isn't a patch already available.
