I search a tool to convert my media files to ogg-files. I've managed to to do so with VLC - but only file by file. Is there a way to just convert whole folders to ogg. Even if the files contained are in a lot of different formats?
View 7 RepliesI share my music between ubuntu and windows 7 (nothing fancy just copy, paste, external hard drive). and have learnt that my music collection doesn't show up right in windows media player because WMP can't read version 2.4 right. most of my collection is saved in 2.4. I used mp3tag on windows for converting my whole collection but wiped the computer recently and had to start over. This time i would like to just convert my whole collection on my ubuntu pc through the terminal. I tried using EyeD3 but it didn't seem to work for me. But perhaps i typed the command wrong. Could someone show me either a proper command for converting my mp3 collection to v2.3 OR recommend another ubuntu program/commandline that can handle 7,500 songs and convert them to ID3v2 v2.3.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a either a script or perl script that will allow me to mass rename files, folders, and sub folders. I need to replace special chars in the current file names with underscores. I was able to make this happen in a single directory, but not recursively.
Here is what does it in a single directory.

I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
I have like over 60 gb of tons and tons of tiny tiny files.

and I ended with system load of over 100+.
Any idea how do I mass remove the files without crashing the system? I have Q9550 with 8 gb ram.
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.

I want to convert some wav files to wma files. I have the wav files currently in a folder called Test to make it easy. So I have entered the following command line:
ajpearson@ajpearson-laptop:~/Desktop/pacpl-4.0.5$ pacpl --to wma home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test and the error message I get is:
error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test
It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.
How do you convert Open Office (ODT) documents to Text files?
I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.
I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?
