View 2 RepliesI'm having problems with the ubuntu software center. When I try to install any software it does nothing when I click the install button. I can click on the visit website page and download the source and compile it manually but I was under the assumption that you could use the install button and it would do it automatically for you. Am I wrong? I am running UNR 9.10 on an Acer Aspire One 110-1588.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI feel shy asking this question but, 90% of the applications I install in Ubuntu (last release), do not show up later on in the applications menu, so I cant run them. I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 the other day and learned a lot about it. One thing I noticed quickly is that, the applications to not show up in the task bar, so I have to switch from one to another via ATL+Tab.Many times I accidentally open another thing of Firefox and have two of the same thing open. How do I get it show you can see which apps you have open in the task bar?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently tried to install various well known programs however they do not show up anywhere. Even in the home folder they do not show up. It's like they were never installed, but I know for a fact I watched them being installed in the terminal and everything. The application I am most concerned with is ies4linux(mainly because its in the way of my WoW playing). I did the whole cabextract (already have wine) and downloaded the ies4linux file.It runs the installer for it, however it doesn't show in the applications or home folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 11.04 on two of my computers, one of them an upgrade and the other one was a clean install, both are having the same issue. When installing .deb files, the Ubuntu Software Center launches as usual although when I click install, the installation starts and it shows the progress bar for a very short time and then the progress just disappears as if the installation stopped. I'm not sure if the installation has actually stopped or if the Software Center is just not showing the progress. Applications that are in the Ubuntu Software Center database works just fine, only .deb files are giving this problem. I installed GDebi Package Manager (Ubuntu 10.04 used to install .deb files with this application) and I can install just fine using that. Is this an 11.04 bug? The issue occurs both in Unity and in GNOME.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOften I open FireFox, get information, which I want to save in an OpenOffice Writer or Calc file.So I go to the left lower corner on the screen, tap on Computer, and then on OpenOffice Writer. When the OpenOffice window has opened, I do not see, as I used to do, the FireFox button on the taskbar (or panel), I have to drag the OpenOffice window, so I can access my FireFox window. When I do that, the OO window bounces, which makes me feel rather sea-sick.Is there a way to have the button for the open applications visible on the task bar (or panel) so that I can go immediately to the other open application ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm used to use several workspaces (6) for completly different tasks. In the netbook edition, the merged launcher/taskbar shows always ALL programs running on all workspaces. I don't like it, because it becomes confusing to have too many symbols from every workspace, even when on the active one only a few applications run. So is there a way to hide application symbols for applications which don't run on the active workspace?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to debian. I just installed Debian 6 via a single CD image. For some reason, I cannot find any kind of application that allows me to select software or install it. I've tried the instructions in many different threads on how to install software including synaptic package manager, software-center, etc. None of them seem to work or maybe there is something that I don't understand about this process in Debian.
I've used Ubuntu, openSuse, and !# so I am relatively familiar with terminal and installing software using different methods, but am not used to not having any kind of package manager to work with. I've downloaded "Software Center" for debian but terminal will not dpkg the package, advising errors. How to install some kind of package manager; "Software Center" or Synaptic would be preferable. I really want to try out Debian and get to know this operating system.
See the attached picture. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried removing and re-installing flash using both Terminal and Ubuntu Software Center to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently Ubuntu 9.10 and have never used Linux at all before. I was wondering, all the links and tips and everything tell me to use Ubuntu Software Center. I haven't had a chance to actually go to the Software Center yet but does it require an internet connection to install software or can I download the tar.gz / tar.bz2 files from sources such as Softpedia.com and still install them using Software Center without a Internet Connection?
