Applications :: (Gnome) Mplayer Doesn't Show Forced Subtitles?

Oct 22, 2010

Some DVDs do often have some scenes with foreign languages translated by forced subtitles.Mplayer gives the possibility to enable or disable subtitles. But if enabled you see the whole movie subtitles unnecessarily. If disabled there are no subtitles altough they were necessary translating some scenes with foreign languages.

Software :: Mplayer With Vo=gl2 On Compiz - Missing Osd And Subtitles?

Sep 12, 2010

Recently I have updated my video drivers and at last was able to run mplayer with vo=gl2 on compiz. The problem is: there is no text in mplayer at all! No OSD, no subtitles, nothing. What I've tried so far to solve this:

1. Rolled back to vo=xv. OSD and subs are there, but video flickers awfully when I'm trying to move mplayer window, change desktop, etc.

2. Played with ccsm "Render text to texture" and "Video" options. No effect.

3. Used vdpau for vo. Hmm, text is there, but mplayer does not respect -subfont-osd-scale and -subfont-text-scale options in config file. Text though is HUGE. Also, "subcp=enca:ru:en" entry in the config file is ignored completely. But, when I launch mplayer with vo=vdpau AND -subfont-osd-scale 2 -subfont-text-scale=2 -subcp enca:ru:en from the console, it is magically working.

4. Activated -ass switch (my subtitles are in srt format). Oh, now I can see subtitles (which are ugly yellow), but NOT the OSD. So, my only solution so far is to create alias for mplayer in bash, which is just temporary, because not all video codecs in mplayer are supporting vdpau.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Kaffeine Does Not Show Subtitles Anymore?

I'm using Kaffeine 1.0-svn3 from Packman repo on openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.5. In Kaffeine, I can not find the menu where I can choose the subtitles. (I want to watch an avi-file with a separate subtitle-file in srt format). With openSuse 11.0, KDE 3.5.8. and an older version of Kaffeine, there was a possibility to select subtitle files (srt).

Software :: Trying To Demux VOB - Subtitles Show Up In Video Stream

Jan 28, 2010

I am trying to demux a set of VOB's from a DVD. I want to be able to extract any video/audio/subtitle/closed caption stream to a raw file. Then I want to wrap the streams that I want into an MKV file. (Probably the video, best quality audio, and all of the subtitles. But who knows, maybe all the streams...) To extract the mpeg2 video from the VOB (which I pulled off the DVD using vobcopy) I am trying to use this command:

Code:
$ ffmpeg -i VTS_01_1.VOB -an -sn -vcodec copy -f rawvideo output.mpeg
The problem is, that when I open output.mpeg in something like VLC, the subtitles are still there. I can turn them on/off, but I don't understand why they are there. FYI: if I do -f mpeg2video, I get the same exact output, checked with an md5sum.

Here is a sample output:
Code:
$ ffmpeg -i VTS_01_1.VOB -an -sn -vcodec copy -f rawvideo output.mpeg

General :: Why Can I Watch It With Gnome-mplayer But Not With Mplayer?

Mar 3, 2011

This should be a very elementary question. I have a URL like http://SERVERNAME/file.wmv. When I enter it in "Open Location" in gnome-mpLayer it connects to the server and plays the stream. But when I run

mplayer "URL"

in the terminal I get a crazy endless loop of

Playing URL.
Resolving SERVERNAME for AF_INET6...
Couldn't resolve name for AF_INET6: SERVERNAME
Resolving SERVERNAME for AF_INET...
Connecting to server SERVERNAME[xxx.xx.xxx.xx]: 80...
Cache size set to 320 KBytes

I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private. So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? Or is it possible to see how mplayer is called by gnome-mplayer and what output messages it generates?I use gnome-mplayer 0.9.9.2 and mplayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 on Ubuntu 10.10.

Got kernel panic when upgradeing from 9.04 to 9.10... Have a tough time with this sparc server. On newer disto it doesnt regognize the cdrom in installation what will result in no install. When I come to 7.10 gutsy everything seems to work, so now everything is up and running.

But now I want it back on version 9.04. Last time (a year ago) I did the same thing, and just do-release-update to current version. Now that doesnt work. Maybe becourse I need some updates to gutsy, and the gutsy repositorys is not available anywere. how I can pass this upgrade to 8.04? I set the APT::Get::AllowUnauthenticated true; to pass this far...

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome Update Error - Forced To Shut Down Via Terminal

May 3, 2015

I have recently updated my GNOME installation from 3.x to 3.14. Suddenly, there are many glitches. The power buttons on the power menu does nothing, I am forced to shut down via the terminal, everything goes black every now and again, and there is a weird colour pattern behind some icons when I hover over them. But most importantly, the icons and text do not show up on the "Activities -> Show Applications -> All" menu. They still there, as you can see the opening animation before they disappear, and I can click on them, but you just can't see them. The "Frequent" menu works fine. Here is a YouTube video I have made to explain my problem.

[URL] ...

I did change the icons, but this was after these problems started happening, and so it should be un-related.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Make Gnome-mplayer Recognize Commands Like "{a6}" Inside Srt Files On 11.3 - GNOME 2.30.2

Jan 10, 2011

I use gnome-mplayer 1.0.0 and Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 to view videos Both read subtitles well from srt files. But both are not able to read {a6} command in the srt files.

NOTE:- {a6} command serves the purpose of putting the subtitles on top of the screen, making it possible for subbers to display lyrics/additional footnotes on top, while at the same time, having the dialogues to show in their usual position.

Is there are way to force either of them to read the special commands properly?

Then I've compiled and install mplayer with --prefix=/usr.

Checking for libmp3lame ... yes (in FFmpeg: yes)

Checking for Xvid ... yes

mencoder -ovc help shows xvid (it works) but no mp3lame at all. And mplayer uses ffmpeg [ffmp3float], which extremely distors tracks. I'm sure it's not alsa, because music played online sounds normal.
