View 5 Replies View RelatedI like to set firefox to ask me every time what to do when downloading a file. This works well if I want to save to disk, but if I want to use an application I don't get a dropdown with applications to choose, but a browse button which requires the application to be typed every time. To make it a bit clearer, if I have clicked on a pdf file I get this: [URL]. How do I get okular listed in a dropdown instead of the browse button?
View 14 Replies View RelatedIn Firefox, when I try to download a PDF document from a particular website, I get the message, "Unable to open document. File type unknown (application/octet-stream is not supported.)" Yet the same PDF document loads fine in Konquerer. Am I missing a plug-in or something?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and Firefox 3.6.11, which has an entry for PDF document under Edit > Preferences on the Applications tab that says, "Use MozPlugger 1.13.3...".
Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0 When I click on some audio stream links in my web browser (Mozilla Firefox), the stream comes in a URL ending in .pls, usually listen.pls. As I want mplayer to play it and not the default player, I intend to make the first the default one. In Firefox (2.0.0.4) I can do Edit>Preferences>Content>File Types>Manage and change the actions associated with each file type. However, if the type is, say, PDF, I can can only change the action if a PDF file has anytime been downloaded. So, the same goes for a PLS file.
You have an example of the kind of link I talk about here: [URL] In the case of a radio broadcast audio stream, I am not downloading it, I think. At least, the Download window does not open. The Download window not having open itsef, the PLS type does not appear in the window Edit>...>File Types>Manage leads to. And so, I cannot change the action. The action would be 'Open them with this application': mplayer.
Firefox 3.6 won't print with cups.
I'v found on this ore other forum a sollution But is there a better one.
I must add the line
But hen i can only print to the default printer.
Then i have to do lpoptions -d printername to set the other printer default.
it is good for now but looking fort better solution.
I feel shy asking this question but, 90% of the applications I install in Ubuntu (last release), do not show up later on in the applications menu, so I cant run them. I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a dark theme in gnome, which of course doesn't display correctly on many websites that force a white background onto text input dialogues (I have to type white or light gray on white) - Because of this, I never use a dark theme for more than a few days before I switch back to light, which really sucks - My workaround for this was going to be changing my Firefox launcher so that a custom GTKRC is used.
It works for all applications except for Firefox.
e.g. if I type into a Terminal:
Code:
env GTK2_RC_FILES="/usr/share/themes/Redmond/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" speedcrunch
or
Code:
bash -c 'GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Redmond/gtk-2.0/gtkrc speedcrunch'
[Code].....
since arch has started using python3, bleachbit is broken, so i am looking for a system cleaner to replace it. i need something that will overwrite file contents and clear firefox cache + the all the normal functions of a system cleaner.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5
previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
I had very imp data in d:drive
attempting to install VLC I get the following errors;
Error in file "/usr/share/applications/kde4/kfontview.desktop": "fonts/package" is an invalid MIME type ("fonts" is an unregistered media type)
Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/gnome-default-handler" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent)
Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/normal" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent)
Thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this. I running Fedora 13 and I used 'yum install vlc' to install the app.
I am copying the file form one directory to another directory using shellscript.
Here i want to get the Mimetype/Content-type of the file.
How to i can get the MimeType.
I was using Hardy Ubuntu and have recently moved to Lucid and in both distributions I have noticed that alt+f2 (launcher) is very slow to show up when I have a lot of programs open.
Also, when I start typing in the box (alt+f2 launcher box), the typing is very slow (Maybe because it is trying to auto-complete?). I don't really understand why.
My terminal auto-completion is very fast. I have a very beefy machine with lots of RAM.
Has someone else also faced this problem? What is the solution?
Is it possible to replace the default gnome alt+f2 launcher with a different one that perhaps doesn't auto-complete?
EDIT: I'd like to add that launching applications from the gnome-terminal is extremely fast on my machine (less than 1 second). With alt+f2, they take 3-4 seconds and sometimes even 5+ seconds.
I recent installed ubuntu 10.04. Sometimes it is getting stuck during normal operations and when that happens I am not able to type anything. The terminal is opening but I cant type any command in it. Nothing happens when I click on the options in the panel i.e 'Applications', 'Places', 'System' . When I try to restart the computer the shutdown option isn't appearing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI somehow managed to screw up my lucid lynx system so that all files show up under Nautilus properties as Type Plain Text. When I double click a file, any file, the system tries to open it as plain text with gedit. Everything worked correctly until yesterday when I tried to install a new version of PyQt4. If I reboot with an old (karmic) version of Ubuntu and bring up Nautilus Properties on the same file (my data partition can be opened in other OS's) the files show up with the correct file type (PDF, ODT, etc) So the problem is not in the file itself, but rather in the lucid OS, which is mis-interpreting the file type. As I said I somehow messed it up when installing the new version of PyQt4.
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently tried to install various well known programs however they do not show up anywhere. Even in the home folder they do not show up. It's like they were never installed, but I know for a fact I watched them being installed in the terminal and everything. The application I am most concerned with is ies4linux(mainly because its in the way of my WoW playing). I did the whole cabextract (already have wine) and downloaded the ies4linux file.It runs the installer for it, however it doesn't show in the applications or home folder.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm used to use several workspaces (6) for completly different tasks. In the netbook edition, the merged launcher/taskbar shows always ALL programs running on all workspaces. I don't like it, because it becomes confusing to have too many symbols from every workspace, even when on the active one only a few applications run. So is there a way to hide application symbols for applications which don't run on the active workspace?
