Happened to me several times already. When I try to launch any application it starts process but there is no window. The only thing that helps is logout/login. I use opensuse 11.4 with kde 4.6. Is there anything to do about it?
View 1 RepliesOften I open FireFox, get information, which I want to save in an OpenOffice Writer or Calc file.So I go to the left lower corner on the screen, tap on Computer, and then on OpenOffice Writer.When the OpenOffice window has opened, I do not see, as I used to do, the FireFox button on the taskbar (or panel), I have to drag the OpenOffice window, so I can access my FireFox window. When I do that, the OO window bounces, which makes me feel rather sea-sick.Is there a way to have the button for the open applications visible on the task bar (or panel) so that I can go immediately to the other open application ?

There's a file called soffice of Type: Shell script that runs openoffice. How do I add this to my menu?
I feel shy asking this question but, 90% of the applications I install in Ubuntu (last release), do not show up later on in the applications menu, so I cant run them. I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?

As you can see there is a white block under the window title that appears on the toolbar of Aptana Studio 2.0.
This also happens on other programs such as PgAdminIII.
While attempting to download an epub file, I chose "open with the ebook widget" and to run rather than save and then clicked the box which says "always chose to do this and don't show this window again" (or something equivalent). The operation failed to bring up the file in the widget and the window no longer appears so I cannot try something else, e.g. "save".
How do I recover the original setting? (i.e. untick the box on the window that now does not appear).
I am using the latest Mint on a multi-booted DELL Studio 1740 notebook.
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 the other day and learned a lot about it. One thing I noticed quickly is that, the applications to not show up in the task bar, so I have to switch from one to another via ATL+Tab.Many times I accidentally open another thing of Firefox and have two of the same thing open. How do I get it show you can see which apps you have open in the task bar?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently tried to install various well known programs however they do not show up anywhere. Even in the home folder they do not show up. It's like they were never installed, but I know for a fact I watched them being installed in the terminal and everything. The application I am most concerned with is ies4linux(mainly because its in the way of my WoW playing). I did the whole cabextract (already have wine) and downloaded the ies4linux file.It runs the installer for it, however it doesn't show in the applications or home folder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedPypanel is a great lightweight panel for window manager users, but I'm seeing a problem for which I've been unable to find a fix, or patch. Unfortunately pypanel has been inactive with no further development for a number of years so it's not likely to see any new releases with a fix any time soon.
The problem is that when a new window is opened in most window managers, the new window gains focus by default, and it shows at the top of the window list. However, pypanel does not show the new window focused within the panel unless you click on the task button in the panel, or you click somewhere on the newly opened window. All the other panels that I've tried focus new windows immediately after they open by default, just like most windows managers do.
I've run across others having the same issue, but no fixes or patches found after many hours of searching. Would any of you happen to know of a fix, a patch, or a work around other than using a different panel application?
I'm used to use several workspaces (6) for completly different tasks. In the netbook edition, the merged launcher/taskbar shows always ALL programs running on all workspaces. I don't like it, because it becomes confusing to have too many symbols from every workspace, even when on the active one only a few applications run. So is there a way to hide application symbols for applications which don't run on the active workspace?

The task bar that has Applications, System, Places, and so on is on the top with the same preference settings. However every time I restart my system both task bars are at the top.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAnyone know the trick to getting Ubuntu to show the contents of a window while I resize it? It WAS doing this until I loaded up the drivers for my Nividia Quador 135M (works great!) I'm very happy with my Ubuntu 9.10, I even have all the bouncy window effects running.
Still, I would love get rid of the "faded blue resizing box" and see the contents instead.

I have the problem that Window Selector continuously change the window list from one column to two columns of windows icons.
It is so impossible to click on a window icon to select it.
I've tried to set the size to larger and different sizes. I've tried to show or hide the panel. I've tried to group or ungroup windows.
Is there a way to tell windows selector to stay in one column windows list?
Vidalia control panel has no check box for "show this window on startup". Is there a way using linux commands to stop it from popping up or would I need to change something else?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd imagine I sound like a complete clown but I am completely new to ubunto and linux in general. Having "fiddled around with it" for a matter of weeks I am finding generally I am quite pleased and am taking my time sorting through the chaff. Talking of chaff I have a problem from downloading a program previously which turned out to be unnecessary. Avast, I have removed the program and associated files but for some reason an Icon remains in the applications box at the bottom, not in a grouped file. I have tried various terminal commands taken from forums etc but none of these appear to have done the trick. A simple right click doesnt give me a remove to waste basket option and the drag and drop to waste basket doesn't work either. Amongst terminal efforts force remove etc etc., don't have any affect and the lines about the avast file does not exist.

I unpacked the .tar.gz and ran ./configure followed by make. I'm unsure of the next step- usually I would just do 'make install' but as I don't have root access I cannot do this. I few weeks ago DockbarX upgraded tyo 0.43, and since then it hasn't worked at all; not just no window previews, but no icons for open applications - absolutely nothing. This also applies when there's an applet in a panel, not just AWN. I've been through the forums, tried going into Compiz Settings and unchecking, then rechecking KDE Compatibility etc, but it does nothing. Edot - installed awn-applet-dockbarx and gnome-dockbarx-applet from Synaptic but it doesn't help.

I find all the "GUI" ways to do it through Gnome and KDE but I'm not using either...I have an EEE PC set to boot up automatically to openbox and want Firefox to start after that in a full screen openbox window.I've tried adding the firefox command to ~/.initrc but it won't execute. I tried the command in .profile. This brings up firefox on a black screen without openbox.Firefox comes up fine when executed from the openbox menu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried some more recent builds of Libre Office from Alien Bob and I'm still getting crashes when I try to dock the Navigator panel on the left side of the window for any of the office applications.
Details are in this post. More specifically, I'm running libreoffice-3.2.99.3-i486 from Eric. When I run 'oowriter' (Libreoffice Writer) from the command line, and then try to dock the navigator panel, I get this message after the crash:

is it possible (and how) to create keyboard shortcut/binding that would give window-focus back to Tilda terminal? Currently, it is necessary to LMB-click inside Tilda (or at least drag mouse-cursor over Tilda) to resume typing.
