Jun 12, 2010
trying to send email from php I'm hosting a website from my pc. LAMP is installed, and php and mysql is running fine. i want the web site to send automated e-mails i found the code mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers); but its not working. I'm pretty sure i need to configure the php.ini file, but the problem is I have 2 php.ini files, and I dont know what one to change, or why I have 2
the two files with path are :
/etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
/etc/php5/cli/php.ini
why is there two?
what one do I need to change?
When setting up a new pop3 accounr in evolution, I dont see any option to change the port, my pop3 server requires port 110.Is there a way to check or alter this in Evolution
Just installed Lubuntu on my lappy having had Ubuntu 10.04 in the past and liked it. I dont seem to be able to get permission to move files though?I open LXTerminal and have tried the commands:Sudo nautilusgksudo nautilus gksu nautilusBut still I cant drag drivers into the driver folder? (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers)
I'm experimenting with Squid [ job task =( ] Now Squid is configured to cache deb, zip, tbz2, gz, flv, etc. but I dont know how skip caching xml and other file types.
So i pulled some files off my buddy's computer via my wireless home network, i can access them but in the permission tab the owner is "nobody" so i can move the files. How can i change the permissions to enable me to move the files?
I would like to change the permissions for a directory and all files inside the directory how do I do this? The website is located only on my local network so I am not worried about security. Also what would be the optimal permissions for running wordpress.
I have a vary unique problem with file and directory ownership. I need to change the ownership of multiple files and directories under a specific subdirectory.Under this directory structure there are files and directories owned my different users and groups. I need to change all files and directories owned by "user1" to "user2". but if any are owned by "user3" I need those left alone. Is there a simple way to do this or will I need to traverse the structure and change things one at a time.
I'm setting up backuppc for backing up over ftp. I have been following this guide: [URL].. The difference is I need to use FTP to backup as opposed to ssh / rsync.I have followed the guide and instead of using
Code: $Conf{XferMethod} = 'rsync'; I am using Code: $Conf{XferMethod} = 'ftp'; as per: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/faq/BackupPC.html
[Code]...
For linux/unix machines you should not backup "/proc". This directory contains a variety of files that look like regular files but they are special files that don't need to be backed up (eg: /proc/kcore is a regular file that contains physical memory). See $Conf{BackupFilesExclude}. It is safe to back up /dev since it contains mostly character-special and block-special files, which are correctly handed by BackupPC (eg: backing up /dev/hda5 just saves the block-special file information, not the contents of the disk).
Alternatively, rather than backup all the file systems as a single share ("/"), it is easier to restore a single file system if you backup each file system separately. To do this you should list each file system mount point in $Conf{TarShareName} or $Conf{RsyncShareName}, and add the --one-file-system option to $Conf{TarClientCmd} or $Conf{RsyncArgs}. In this case there is no need to exclude /proc explicitly since it looks like a different file system.
Next you should decide whether to run tar over ssh, rsh or nfs. Ssh is the preferred method. Rsh is not secure and therefore not recommended. Nfs will work, but you need to make sure that the BackupPC user (running on the server) has sufficient permissions to read all the files below the nfs mount.
Ssh allows BackupPC to run as a privileged user on the client (eg: root), since it needs sufficient permissions to read all the backup files. Ssh is setup so that BackupPC on the server (an otherwise low privileged user) can ssh as root on the client, without being prompted for a password. There are two common versions of ssh: v1 and v2. Here are some instructions for one way to setup ssh. (Check which version of SSH you have by typing "ssh" or "man ssh".) Everything seems to be working correctly except when a backup is executed I get this:
I have a dns server started with 2 NIC Cards in it. The bios sees both cards but they both dont show in ifconfig. is there a way to activate the second card?
I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:
Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
What would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?
The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.
I had used test desk program to restore my files ,the files that recovered was saved in home folderthe problem is that these files are become root permission only ,so i cantcopy , move theme

I am trying to install Ubuntu LTS 10.04 on an IBM Lenovo T61 Thinkpad notebook with Windows 7 preinstalled on it. There were two hard drives one 30 GB and other almost 110 GB which (the second one) I resized in three partitions with the help of Windows 7 disk management. Now when I try to install Ubuntu, the partition manager doesn't recognize the newly created partitions it only shows 2 partitions C: and old 100+ GB D:. I had created a separate partition for Ubuntu also but I can't see it so can't install Ubuntu on it, I can't resize the visible partition because it is divided into three actually and I have data on each of three.
is there a way to edit which commands require a sudo? or some programs, like the CPU frequency monitor on panel, requires a password to change. where would i start if i want to change this?
I had been using Ubuntu 10.04.1 in a Macbook pro (triple boot: Mac, Win7 and Ubuntu). Now I am not able to boot in to Ubuntu in graphics mode. It just freezes after the Ubuntu logo appears. It happened once before and I re-installed the OS. Now I have the same issue. I can boot in recovery mode and get into my account.
When I tried startx command I get the error below:
(there is more stuff splashed on the screen, but the above two are the only errors I see)
I thought of reinstalling the OS. But this may happen again and re-installing the OS every month wipes out all my configurations and files in my account.
I have spent the most part of 5 hours trying to fix this issue. For some reason I cannot change the background image to any of mt .jpg wallpaper files (and .png files). I've tried using the Ubuntu-Tweak application, but I end up getting a purple screen (default) or a black screen (default). So then I tried using the terminal method by making the Appearance window appear when I would log out. That works, except when I go to use my background image, it shows as a question mark for the image preview, and the icon for the file is a gray box. All while doing this my background images that I tested are all in the /usr/share/backgrounds location. Please help! I really want to get rid of the default images and use my images... :/ My desktop/screen in 1440x900, and most my background images are around that size. They work with my regular desktop for my account.
My samsung ipod yp-T10 works fine on windows but it does not on ubuntu.I have not installed any software to run it on ubuntu except there is Rythmbox and it does nothing when i scan the removable media.Whenever i try to open the music folder of my ipod it gives this error:The folder contents could not be displayed.orry, could not display all the contents of "Music": Failed to get file list: -8: Fixed limit exceeded.
I had a sweet one in windows that came with my WN111v2 that did what i needed. Now that WINDOWS and my WN111v2 dont work i need two things.
1 a good USB adapter that will work with 2. a good wireless utility that is easy to install. I work out of my van and often have time to get online but not if its a pain in the A$$. wardriving, leeching, parasite, whatev you wanna call it. I call it passing my free time at work.

Dont detect my bluetooth device on my notebook. what i can do for install it or something ?
I changed my MAC address in /etc/network/interfaces. To make it work I had to change eth0 to eth1. The Internet connection works fine but network-admin is now gone. The icon is gone and the command line says: The program 'network-admin' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install gnome-network-admin.
I've tried changing the DNS servers by hand in /etc/resolv.conf three different ways:
sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf
gksudo "gnome-open %u"
gksudo nautilus
But every time I restart it resets back to my ISPs DNS servers. I'm afraid if I try to install network-admin again it's going to really mess everything up (just a feeling).
This is scheme: Code: 10.10.1.90 <--> externalIP1 <--> MY external IP My /etc/ipsec.conf where I type setkey -f Code: cat /etc/ipsec.conf flush; spdflush;
