I have a dns server started with 2 NIC Cards in it. The bios sees both cards but they both dont show in ifconfig. is there a way to activate the second card?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to dual boot into Ubuntu and thus far everything works great on my machine. There is one HUGE issue.
I am running 2 Radeon 4870 Cards. Only one adapter will show at a time. I am used to Having 4 monitors and the max amount of Monitors it will allow me to have are two.
It does recognise the Second Adapter when I go into the Catalyst Control (it shows the option for Cross Firing) and it shows both adapters when I do:

The closest I had was that my main two monitors showed the splash page when the other two monitors on the other adapter were displayed. So It did switch once... But I have yet get all four monitors to work.
I have a Proliant 7000 with 4 interfaces across 2 cards - 3 intel 10/100Tx and 1 intel 100FX. During install it detected the 3 tx interfaces - but couldnt see the network - post install the network devices were no longer there, their devices missing from /dev/.
Neither google nor a forum search have been particularly edifying, is this a known issue with any cards? If so is there a known fix? ifconfig gives me information for loopback only as expected.
The project is to setup a corporate server that will bond 5 pci lan cards into one! The scope is to connect 5 ADSL routers and compine the speeds of all of them.
So i would have 5 routers each 2mbit ADSL would result on a 10mbit connection.
The problem is not only that.
Because this is a corporate network the server MUST also act as a router. This is necessary because people are remotely connecting from e.g. their homes to the network.
if this can be done with a Linux server or it is not feasilbe at all?

I recently bought a used Server (FSC RX200 S4) and set it up running Debian 7. Being used to Ubuntu, that was no big deal. It works as it should out of the box. This magic computing machine has four Network cards (eth0 - eth3). Now, I want to set it up as a multi-purpose server. On the one hand, it shall provide a Apache2 webserve, a SQL Server, a File/Streaming Server and so on. I have no problems setting up these.
On the other hand, it should work as a DHCP server in my local lan with some PCs and a printer/scanner. Until now, my cheap router did that job including to connecting me to the internet. Since I can't really set up a proper firewall with that box, I want to use my server for that.
Thats's my desired setup I want to achieve:
[] Router provides internet connection to Server
--> cable goes into eth0
[] Server therefore has a internet connection
--> Some internal magic routes the internet from eth0 to eth1 (preferably as a iptables setup) and does the Firwall & DHCP Service
--> cable goes from eth1 to a switch
--> switch connects the PCs and printer
[] PCs have internet and I can use the printer
So far so good, here's what I've come up with. I installed dnsmasq and isc-dhcp-server. I got some config files for both. I got a script to set up my iptables

When starting up the services, I don't see any errors. Still, it doesn't work. My Server loses its internet connection and the PCs connected to the network are unreachable.
I'm wondering a couple of things about my LAMP stacks:
1) How do I get a list of all the network cards installed in a linux box? I've run this command and it shows 2 network cards which is probably all of them:

2) How can I check the percent utilization of a given network card? I.e., at any given time, what linux command will tell me the how much of a network card's bandwidth is being consumed? I've checked both ethtool and mii-tool and I don't really see any helpful stats.
3) How can I make sure that a linux box will optimally use both network cards? I'm a bit fuzzy on how IP addresses and network cards and hostnames work together.
I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 with two network cards. One for external, and one internal.My problem is that as soon as i activate eth1 (external), i can't access the server from the internal network (eth0)
With these settings i can't reach the internal network from inside.If i disable the gateway on eth1 and enable the gateway on eth0, it works.
I am new here, and clueless as to what im doing. Soo.. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 i386. It took me forever to install because it would hang up (Mouse lock and light go off, keyboard lock, screen lock) every time i got to the graphical part of the installer, so i used the alternate installer. After installing correctly, it would still lock up within 3 minutes of login. Now that ive removed one stick (512) of ram, there are no more problems.
Here is my comp config:
Installer: ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Motherboard: Albatron K8T800
Ram: 1 gig Corsair ram(2 x 512) **Note, I removed one to get the comp to work, so its actually 512 now.
Video: Nvidia Geforce 6800gt
Both sticks of ram are the same so it is not because of mix and matching ram.
how well TV cards work in Ubuntu.I want to know what are the best prices, what works in Ubuntu and whether or not they will "lag" with video.Problem is my television just packed in, Rather than get a new one I'd rather just get a PC card because it'd be more practical with the room I have.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy situation is like so: I have two NVIDIA GTX 460 graphics cards running the latest (260.19.06) proprietary drivers. I SLI these together under Windows 7 for gaming. However, for day to day usage I have Ubuntu 10.1 running on my two monitors using twinview.
My problem is that the xserver refuses to load (I get the "screens found, but none have a usable configuration" error) when both my graphics cards are plugged in and powered; if I remove the power to one, the system works fine. If I was just using Ubuntu, I would simply leave one unplugged but, because I'm not, its a pain to have to plug/unplug one every time I want to switch operating system.
I have tried every modification to the xorg.conf file that I can think of and a few more found in the documentation and via google, all to no avail. I have also tried everything again with twinview disabled and only one monitor plugged in.
I am aware that SLI isn't compatible with twinview, I don't really need to use it, although it would, of course, be nice.
I am setting up a class using a vmWare ESX server. Because of security proceedures, the students are not allowed to connect directly to the internet. Because of file space, the are severated on 3 servers. I am trying to set up a server that connects to the internet and all 3 subnets that the students are on.
I have configure 4 virtual NICs 1 with DHCP connected to the internet. The other 3 goes to each student network. I can get 2 working at a time. 1 using the DHCP and 1 of the other networks. It seems to be order dependent. On the main server I can ping the local address. When I ping the students systems, I can reach 1 but not the other 2. I get a host unreachable message.
Is there a limitation to 2 NICS. If not, is there any magic incantation to run the 4 nics?
I am looking into buying a better graphics card, most likely Nvidia, for my HP D330 DT.How do you tell if the graphics card is compatible with your machine?One more thing, is there a way to tell if my GPU is an, AGP, PCI, or PCI express without opening my computer??

Now, I put a nVidia card in it (2009'ish 512mb), and there is no screen after the BIOS screen.
If I boot off a Live CD, everything is fine, so the card is supported.
How do I get Ubuntu to look for the new card on bootup? Do I have to reinstall? If so, will it wipe out the installed applications and data?

i have ubuntu 10.10 64b and for some reason last night the wired network autoeth01 suddenly will not connect to my router. it is a dual boot machine so i booted into windows and it is working fine in that OS.
I then had a look at the status on my laptop running ubuntu 10.10 32b and that was showing the same message "wired network autoeth01 disconnected" i cannot for the life of me figure this out. just before it was disconnected i had been copying 7gigs worth of data using samba from the 32b machine to the 64 bit machine.
i have tried deleting the wired entry and recreating it.
tried different cables
even changed the router
works with all windows machines connected to network

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running a dual boot system Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) and Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) on a Dell Inspiron 540s. I currently have an 8 GB USB stick inserted in a 4 port USB hub. I can read files on the device but I cannot write to any of the files. Using the ls and chmod commands I get the following outputs. Note that after assigning rwxr to all users nothing changes. Incidentally, since I could not write to the stick I created a text file in windows and saved it to the USB stick as a text file.

Initially I had just teh HD 3600 in the PC, using the "AMDccle" drivers and configuration running two monitors.
I then added an old RV280 PCI card to allow a third monitor. When the PC powers on the bios output is on the RV280, once linux starts the RV280 monitor goes to the ubuntu desktop colour, the two monitors on the HD3600 get a signal (power up) and display the logon screen.
When I log on the two HD3600 screens become my desktop. If I ctrl alt f1 etc. the terminal screen comes up on the RV280 and the two HD3600 screens go blank. This suggests that all 3 monitors/ 2 graphics cards are all working ok, and ubuntu is happy with them. My problem now is to make the RV280 accessable via X/gnome at the same time as the HD3600. It would be nice to have it as a 3rd monitor on a very wide desktop, but I'd settle for it being its own little window running various tasks/programs such as mail/firefox.
I'd like to overclock (well actually downclock) ATI X300 video card in Debian. Is it possible to do it with standard drivers, or fglrx must be used?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 9.10. My work requires me to frequently swap video cards between an ATI Radeon 5870 card and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX card. My question is: can the ATI driver (fglrx - catalyst 10.2) and the NVIDIA driver (nvidia 190.29) co-exist? Or do I need to reinstall the driver every time I change the card? I would like for the drivers to be able to co-exist so it would only be a matter of restarting my machine with the new card and choose the right xorg.conf file (perhaps from the GRUB menu).

I have my Qwest DSL modem port forwarding port 80 to 192.168.3.235 however this doesn't seem to work if I have both cards running. If I remove the second card (eth1) and reconfigure eth0 to use 192.168.3.235 I can port forward into my webserver.
I was just wondering if is an easy way to configure three monitors run across two video cards (Nvidia Leadtek GTS250 PCI-E 2.0 1G 2DVI ) 2 on one, 1 on the other under the one xserver? I tried to get it going using the Nvidia driver package with no luck - 2 monitors seemed to be simple to configure using Twinview setting on a single xserver (my current settings) and I was hoping their may be a simple extension for three and if so is there an easy way to go about this?
