I had a sweet one in windows that came with my WN111v2 that did what i needed. Now that WINDOWS and my WN111v2 dont work i need two things.
1 a good USB adapter that will work with 2. a good wireless utility that is easy to install. I work out of my van and often have time to get online but not if its a pain in the A$$. wardriving, leeching, parasite, whatev you wanna call it. I call it passing my free time at work.

I updated Lucid yesterday, and when I restarted the user interface was changed to a more simple feeling display. This makes me think I'm stuck in a "basic" mode or something. I attached a screen shot, but to give you an idea ill describe some issues. For one thing the minimize buttons are now on the right. The volume control, which used to appear on the top right of the screen, is gone and my multimedia volume control buttons on my Inspiron 1420 no longer work. Furthermore, the command terminal is now white and the keyboard shortcuts for copy and past don't work.
Immediately after updating I also got an error message at login (which also appears different and gives options on bottom of screen like gnome Failsafe) which said something like "gnome default power management installed incorrectly...". I followed the advice of a forum thread that involved the purge command and that seemed to remedy that message.
Tell me how to configure my Ethernet card to work. My pc only works wirelessly. I don't know what kind of Ethernet card is installed. I have Ubuntu 10.4 on a dell pc 1ghz, 20ghd, 512mb.

But now when I have installed Fedora to the hard drive, I can see the wireless network, but when I press connect, it starts connecting, both dots become green but then it just says "Disconnected, the wireless network has been disconnected"

I tried to edit the /etc/ppp/options file to set my MTU and MRU to 576
But, It does not seem to be working. There is no such problem on Windows and I can connect flawlessly I takes several retries to connect to a site. I sometimes become frustrated with this and switch to Windows But as you all know, Windows is not the right OS for people who want more from their computers.

Is running dual boot with XP, the problem is i dont have internet connection(wireless and wired) with Ubuntu but i do with XP. I read like hundreds of posts from diferent forums and i wrote all crazy commands in terminal but aint working. I tried directly trough the modem (motorolla 2210)and with the router(netgear wgr614) via wired and wireless and aint working either. For some reason ubuntu doesnt request an ip adress from the router or the router dont asign an ip adress to my linux box.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently set up a CENTOS server using the kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen (x64 5.4 Install I believe). Originally I set it up with Xen to becasue I was goig to create the odd VM on it, however I no longer need to do this.Further, I believe I am having networking issues due to the installation of Xen. The machine cannot seem to locate any network addresses (eg websites) unless I put in a hosts entry for them. I believe this networking issue would be easier to rectify if the virtual networking interfaces for Xen were not installed but to do this requires a Kernel replacement. Im not experienced with doing this and the machine is located remotely to me and I dont have the original install CD available.How would I go about replacing the kernel to the non Xen version if I dont have the install CDs?

I would love to use the latest Ubuntu in this machine. Please let me know if it is possible to configure a ubuntu/xubuntu in this machine. I need to be able to login with my corporate user_id/passwd, because many of the tools use this for authentication. so just doing a ubuntu installation in this machine and mounting the n/w location would not help.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install bitcoin onto my computer, and the Linux version only comes in tar.gz, and I can extract it just fine, however when I put in ./configure using the command line...it doesn't work...so I checked the README file and it didn't mention doing that...it simply told me to run either /bin/64/bitcoin or to run /bin/32/bitcoin However when I try running first one, /bin/64/bitcoin, it simply says something about there not being a shared library...But when I try to run /bin/32/bitcoin it simply says "Permission Denied" and yes I tried running as root when I first saw that...didn't do any good.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy web server does not currently run Suexec. All files within the /var/www directory are owned by vsftpd and belong to nogroup. Apparently, this setup causes issues with some scripts that attempt to upload files and change files, such as the SMF Forum package.
Here's some background information that goes into further details regarding the issues I'm having:[URL]..Why would uploading a file using PHP in SMF not work with the owner being vsftpd belonging to the nogroup when the folder has been chmod to 777? I tested my own simple PHP upload script, and it was able to upload a file without issues. Yet, I've been told that my server is improperly configured if I'm not using Suexec. Why is this? Also, if I did use Suexec, what creates the users? Would I have to add them manually, or would they be created automatically as users based on their FTP login and added as subusers to the vsftpd group? Why should I use Suexec? I don't understand what's wrong with my current setup. How does it work in terms of users? Are users created and just added to a subgroup, or are they created like normal user accounts on the actual server? Do they get their own /home/username directory as well? I'm so confused about Suexec. What I've read about it doesn't make sense.[URL]..

In trying to upgrade my GTK+ library following these instructions, I got to the ./configure step but then received the warning bash: ./configure: No such file or directory.

When I try to join #fedora on Freenode, however, I am unable to identify my username (which worked fine in XChat). Subsequently, I automatically join #fedora-unregistered (see http://pastebin.com/XUcx7CLe). How can I configure a single computer to work for multiple simultaneous users? I would like to have multiple keyboards and monitors on a single PC ... Is it possible? This set up I'm planning for CyberCafe, For cyberCafe business ROI is very slow... so was planning to have something like this....
-single CPU (Which would act as a server)

If this works out then I would save a lot on my investments (OS cost, Hardware devices, electricity etc)
