Ubuntu One :: U1 Won't Connect Afet Upgrading To 50GB?

Jan 16, 2010

I updated my wife's U1 to the $10/month 50GB plan. The local files on the computer all show green checkmarks, so I thought they were sync'd. When I logged in to her account, it showed 0% being used (she already had 11GB of files in her Ubuntu One folder while on the 2GB plan). I removed the computer from her account, as there was obviously a problem. Now, clicking on the "connect" button (in nautilus) does nothing, it just sits there forever, trying to connect. It never brings up an UbuntuOne page to sign in so I can re-link the computer to her account. Now that I'm a paying customer, I want this to work correctly.

Also, I think it is also fair to mention that U1 has been riddled with bugs since day 1 (i have submitted bug reports and they never seem to get fixed). I'm very surprised at just how long it is taking the team to fix these bugs (especially since there are paying customers!) The only reason I agreed with my wife to pay for a subscription is because I believe in OSS and want to see U1 succeed. (I'm still waiting for a Tomboy Notes syncing bug I submitted months ago to be fixed - then I will upgrade my account as well). I'm afraid that if more resources aren't thrown at U1 to get it STABLE and bugs fixed, this service could be doomed to failure. I really hope Canonical starts looking at this area more seriously!

Ubuntu One :: Does 'entire Music Collection' Mean Only Up To 50GB?

Oct 21, 2010

I have a few questions in regards to the music streaming service offered.

1. Does "entire music collection" mean only up to 50GB?
2. I can't sync off my external USb harddrive. Is there a way to do this. my entire music collection is on the external HD.
3.If i move music to from my external HD to the ubuntu one folder am I actually copying the file to my netbook harddrive or is it only a pointer? I have limited harddrive space on the netbook.
4. If I have to actually move files from my ext harddrive to the ubuntu one folder I may need to delete folders because of limited space. Anyway to prevent syncing so the folders uploaded do not get deleted from cloud.

Ubuntu :: Split The Existing 950GB Partition Into Two (900GB And 50GB)?

I have Ubuntu (command line only) installed as a part of XBMC Live installation. My disk is 1TB that's currently partitioned like this:

10GB root
2GB swap
950GB media

Is there a way to split the existing 950GB partition into two (900GB and 50GB) without altering or moving the data that's currently on it?

Ubuntu Servers :: Both The Virual Machines Have 50GB Of Harddrive Thought One Had Another 1TB To Use

Jan 10, 2011

I'm the proud owner of a new 1U server, thought dont really know how to handle the next problem. The server runs VMWare ESXi 4.x and currently contains two virtual machines with Ubuntu server 10.04 installed on them. Both the virual machines have 50GB of Harddrive, thought one had another 1TB to use.

One of these virtual machines is going to be a fileserver (and has the 1TB for that reason) while the other machine is purely going to be used as webserver. The system uses one harddiskdrive of 1.5TB (hardware raid 1 configured)

The fileserver will contain images, which should be shown on the webserver. Therefor I need to setup a link between the images directory on the fileserver, so it can be accessed by the webserver. Now this is one and the same harddisk, but the partition is only availeble in the fileserver.

How can i configure this directory, so it can be accessed by the webserver automatically (e.g. that I dont have to remount the directory, after the fileserver has been down for whatever reason)

Ubuntu Installation :: Clean Install On The 50GB Partition From A Live CD?

May 17, 2011

I have a PC that has 10.04 installed and no other operating system. The 1 TB hard disk has two partitions:

* 940 GB NTFS for data storage
* 50GB ext4 (which has 10 GB extended and 10 GB sawp)

The system has become sluggish and slow and browsers and so on often "hang" for a few seconds prior to executing. There is an epiphany dependency problem that I cannot solve.
My questions are:

1. Is it possible to do a clean install on the 50GB partition from a live CD?

2. Is it better to do this than upgrade to 10.10 and thence to 11.04? [When I ungraded like this in the past, I had problems, so I would prefer a clean install].

3. If it is possible to do a clean install on the 50GB partition, should I reformat the partition and if so, can I do that from the live CD?

Ubuntu Networking :: Laptop Can't Connect To Visible Networks After Upgrading / Resolve This?

Jun 1, 2011

After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 and running an update ubuntu can't connect to any wifi networks, although it can see them perfectly (and potentially unrelated, the windows partition is having major dns issues with the wifi too).

I've looked around and can't find an obvious fix, just a bunch of posts from people with the same problem that wasn't solved. I got frustrated and was about to install 10.10 again but I noticed I couldn't connect to the wifi on the liveCD either. I then tried the 10.04 liveCD, and the internet worked aswell as when I installed it. However before when I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 I had no problems with the wifi, so it leads me to suspect that there was something installed/some setting in 10.04 that is missing from the latter version.

Ubuntu Servers :: Unable To Connect To System Bus: Failed To Connect To Socket

May 29, 2010

I tried to install vsftpd on my server and while the installation went fine, I can't run

Code:
restart vsftpd
As I the get error
Code:

restart: Unable to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory Though I'm able to restart the service with

sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.

Debian Configuration :: Network - Cannot Connect To Any Other Websites And Apt Will Not Connect To Any Servers

Feb 18, 2011

I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.

I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

Ubuntu :: Upgrading KDE 4.4.5 To 4.5.0 ?

Aug 10, 2010

I am trying to upgrade KDE 4.4.5 to 4.5.0 (Kubuntu 10.04 LTS) but the attempt results in 22 packages that can be upgraded and 111 blocked updates.

The problem is due to a dependency issue with libqt4-assistant and ktorrent. aptutide offer me a solution to remove these two packages, as well as some other packages that seem important to me, and leave package kubuntu-desktop with unresolved dependencies. II don't know what that lib is needed for, but I use ktorrent every day. So this solution seems like a bad one to me.

How to upgrade to KDE 4.5 and keep ktorrent? Or is it better to wait for Kubuntu 10.10 release and then do a distro upgrade (which will surely get round the problem)?
