2 hours later and my system was upgraded. No problems. Only thing was that there is no splash screen. For about 10 seconds a blinking cursor and a purple background with UBUNTU on it.Don't know if this is normal.

The problem is due to a dependency issue with libqt4-assistant and ktorrent. aptutide offer me a solution to remove these two packages, as well as some other packages that seem important to me, and leave package kubuntu-desktop with unresolved dependencies. II don't know what that lib is needed for, but I use ktorrent every day. So this solution seems like a bad one to me.
How to upgrade to KDE 4.5 and keep ktorrent? Or is it better to wait for Kubuntu 10.10 release and then do a distro upgrade (which will surely get round the problem)?

How do I upgrade Xubuntu over the internet? I don't want to have to download torrents and stuff, but when I tried to upgrade via the update manager, it started upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 instead of Xubuntu. Now it's just sitting here telling me I have over a thousand updates available even though I never typed yes to the upgrade (I started it at the command line). I don't know how to shut it down.
EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. It actually was upgrading to xubuntu after all.

I started the update manager to upgrade, and everything was going fine until it started installing the upgrades, more specifically when it got to "Preparing memtest86+", when it started continuously saying in the terminal "Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic". The upgrade is going faster than when i first did the upgrade earlier this month.I am testing Ubuntu 10.10 on a computer with a 1.6Ghz AMD 64 processor.It has 3 GB ram and a 500GB hard drive. 128 MB video ram.

UPDATE: I didn't need ndiswrapper, and I am able to now use Natty, where it works as it should.
I have 2 HDDs on my computer on one I have Ubuntu and on the other I have Windows XP Home Edition, but after I have done the upgrade on the Ubuntu, windows XP won't boot... even if I disconnect the HDD (power and data) where Ubuntu is installed... it gives me some GRUB ERROR (I didn't try to boot on windows with both HDDs connected as I only have 2 power cables and I need to use my DVD recorder on Windows)

Recently I wanted to install Ubuntu 10.04 from a CD which I had sent to me, but which I never actually used. So I put the CD in my laptop, used Wubi to install Lucid Lynx next to Windows in dual-boot, and restarted the laptop. Everything was OK. I noticed that the Update Manager didn't come up yet. I glanced at the notification area, and I wasn't connected to the Internet. So I entered wireless connection password and so Internet was back.I then opened Update Manager, changed release options to "Normal Releases" and was told of upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10. So I pressed the button, successfully updated and restarted. BUT, when Ubuntu tried to reboot, it gave a whole list of errors, and proceeded to shut down. Right now I'm manually downloading 10.10 64-bit, and Wubi. And I uninstalled previous installation. If this works, then great. But I still want to know, just out of interest, why the hell did it do that? Is there issues with the upgrade? Was there errors in my Ubuntu installation?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have perfectly working Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. But, yesterday I upgraded it to Ubuntu 10.10. There were various error messages during upgrade process, but it showed that I can continue without certain package. But, after restarting the laptop, I didn't found the new kernel entry in the GRUB. So, I continued with booting using older kernel version. It showed that ubuntu is booting but after sometime screen went totally blank. I even tried to boot into recovery mode, but faced same problem.
Then I booted with live CD, and chroot to the root folder of ubuntu on my HDD. After running command "dpkg --configure -a" I got error messages which are stored in attached file error-msg.txt.I cannot format the linux partition for a clean install. Please suggest solution for either recovery of 10.10 or restoration of 10.04.
Unfortunately my modem died and my alternative modem is not recognized in 8.04 so I can't do a normal upgrade.

I've got the alternate ISO (32 bit) burned on CD and booted from it (on a Windows laptop) but don't see an option except possibly 'rescue a broken system'.
I haven't installed Email yet on ubuntu 10.04.1. When I do so I was planning to install Thunderbird. According to the prerequisite on - [URL] Thunderbird 3.0 should be installed and operational before upgrading to version 3.1.7. However on checking in available version to download via Software Center, the version there appears to be 3.1.7 already. Does that mean version 3.0 isn't a prerequisite after all? When version 9.10 came out I upgraded through the Update Manager, and it screwed up the install and nothing worked. I ended up deleting everything and started from scratch. I dont want to go through that again.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI like to remove the not installed (residual config) files so I go into Synaptic package manager and select all of the files I want to remove and click for a complete removal after it gets done doing whatever it does to get them ready, the files are highlighted like they suppose to be, but the apply button on the top is greyed out, so I am unable to remove any files from SPM. I don't know if this is a bug or just me could someone help me out?
