Nov 30, 2010I am unable to connect to any network, wired or wireless. Network-manager and wicd are both gone, as in no longer installed. Please don't tell me to apt-get anything. I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".

May 28, 2010I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Toshiba A200-12U laptop (with an Atheros AR5007EG wireless card), but networking is being problematic.I entered Network Configurations and tried to get 'Auto eth0' working -- I went to Edit > IPv4 settings and filled in 'Addresses' with the details of my connection:
Address: 192.168.1.254 (the local IP of my router)
Netmask: 255.255.252.0
Gateway: 94.195.208.1

The laptop previously had WinXP installed and was able to connect (I have also double checked the cables and ports and they're all functioning ok).

Apr 30, 2010I just did a fresh install of ubuntu studio 10.04 and I can not connect to either a wired or wireless network. The In Network Tools the IPv4 IP address is 127.0.0.1. It is plugged into a network giving out DHCP IP's. Both wired and wireless were working on ubuntu 9. I have tried to bring eth0 up in the terminal but it did not give an error or anything. It it running on a Dell Latitude D820 laptop.

May 5, 2011I have recently developed a problem with my computer connecting to the internet which has totally stumped me and is currently forcing my to use windows much to my frustration. I am using ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. My wireless and wired network connections will not connect. They are all present in the menu and i can click on them but the connection tries to connect and then just times out and fails to connect. Everything still works fine in windows Vista. The more confusing thing is i tried some live disks to see if they would work but they all did exactly the same thing including a live disk of ubuntu 9.10 which used to work perfectly and live disks of openSUSE 11.4 and Mint 10. I struggling to tell if this could be a hardware problem or not. The fact that the live disks wouldn't work suggests a hardware problem but the fact that Vista still works totally throws that argument. I have looked all over these forums and elsewhere and have found some similar ish problems but non seem to have the severity of this one as all of those seem to be wireless only problems. The only thing that i was doing at the time this started was i had just set up a new secondary user account but i suspect that may be coincidental.

It can see wireless networks, and when I type in the password for my wireless network, it tries to connect, then asks for the password again. When I plug in the Ethernet cable, again it tries to connect, but after a few seconds gives up and tells me I am now offline.

Jan 11, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.

Jul 27, 2010I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Aug 13, 2011I have searched and found no answer to this one. I have a Linksys DSL router BEFSR41 (wired) which works great. I recently got a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router. Which also works great with my Dell mini 10 netbook running 10.04. I have two computers (wired) also running 10.04, what I want to do is use both routers with only one internet DSL connection. I have the wired (Master Router) connected to the wireless (Slave Router) and I fire up the Dell it sees it and connects but I can't connect to the internet. I can connect through my network and share files through all 3 machines. Do I need to reset the wireless, to enjoy the internet? If so the wireless came without instructions or CD.

Aug 14, 2010I just dual-booted my Acer Aspire 3810TZ laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. When I first tried to connect to my home wireless network, it connected fine. However, now whenever I start the laptop, it will not connect. The network appears in the available networks list, but it fails to connect. I know the network is ok, because I can still connect to it fine from Windows.
My network adapter is Intel Wifi 1000 BGN. Apparently (from [URL]) the drivers for this card should be part of the distribution.
I can't understand why it connected once, but (without any changes to the system at all) it won't work now.

Dec 4, 2010Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
