I just downloaded Ubuntu Studio on my laptop and I can't get the wireless to work. I think it's because I need a driver; the Atheros AR928x. Whatever the driver is, it works with the pretty unpopular Musix distribution, because wireless worked instantly when I got that. I switched because it was old and slow.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was doing some testing on my CR-48 notebook, which seemed to be very slow wirelessly when running Ubuntu 11.04. I cracked it open and decided to swap out the wireless cards with an Intel Wifi Link 1000 card I had in my other laptop, which is a Dell Latitude. I then began to do some speed testing, using speedtest.net. I tested each laptop 5 times for each card, so I did 20 tests total.
5 - CR-48 - Intel

The results I think speak for themselves. While the Atheros card no doubt *works*, it doesn't work as efficiently as the Intel card I tried. I also noticed if I shut off my wireless security, my speeds drastically improved on the Atheros card. On my router (WRT54G) I used both mixed mode, G-only mode, WPA, WPA2 and a mixture of TKIP, AES, and TKIP+AES encryption. My results were the same across the board unless I took off security.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just loaded the Ubuntu maverick AMD64 beta and to my regret I see that the wireless adapter isn't functioning, even after applying updates through wired connection.
Terminal lspci -v command tells me that the network adapter is present as Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter on PCI-E - rev 01 and that the ath9k module is being used by the kernel.
I have installed CentOS 5.3, and updated with yum update. I have kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5xen.
I can't get my wirelss network to work, I have AR928X wireles network adapter.
Do I need to install a newer kernel and install ath9k or can I just downlad a driver without updating the kernel?
I'm new to CetOS and Linux so I hope someone kan give me a step by step guide to what I can do!
I just installed OpenSuSE 11.3 x86_64, and as I'm new to OpenSuSE I can't get my wireless to work. I believe it should work because it worked out of the box in Ubuntu (9.10 and 10.04)
At first I didn't see any network icon in the notification area, but after some googling figured out to enable NetworkManager instead of ifup. Now there is an icon, and clicking it I can see wireless networks, but when I try to connect it tries for a while, then seems to give up.

I have Acer Aspire 4740 laptop with Atheros ar928x wireless. My wireless is very slow, unstable. Wireless card still works well and fast in Windows (dual booting). After searching I see that there are many Ubuntu users have the same problem in Ubuntu 11.04 with this card.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my wireless card working in master mode. I am running Jaunty server 2.6.28-11 x86_64. I have compiled hostapd with nl80211 enabled. The interface is using ath9k. I have tried to compile compat-wireless with this patch. However IEEE80211_IF_TYPE_AP was undefined along with IEEE80211_IF_TYPE_VLAN. In addition the latest version of compat-wireless needs to be patched for kernels < 2.6.31 with this. However when using this patch IRQ_WAKE_THREAD is still undefined.

I have CentOS 5.5 and I can't install the driver for the Atheros AR5006X Wireless.The current state of my CentOS is:

I recently switched from Windows XP to a clean install Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 but it seems to be quite a problem to get the wifi up and running. In Windows the nearby network all appeared in network connections but the same section in Ubuntu is empty. So I decided to go with the ndiswrapper guide to solve the problem with an unclaimed driver. After an entire day messing with my computer I'm still not close... Below follows excerpts taken from the Ndiswrapper guide with posted results from my computer. It seems like the network is disabled or unclaimed or both. What to do? I'm stuck after spending an entire day trying to install the wifi. I had no problems in Windows XP but it seems to be quite impossible in Ubuntu.
I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :
First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.
Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?
I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.
I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.

When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .

I need some help, my wirless usb card which is a TP-Link TL-WN821N card was working fine, except that it would drop the connection once in a while.I got the windows XP driver and used the graphical ndiswrapper tool to install it, and "Hardware Present = Yes" showed up next to the driver.So I followed the guide and edited my blacklist.conf to add the the atheros and any other conflicting drivers.After that, I rebooted, but iwconfig and ifconfig doesn't show my wireless card anymore.
lsusb shows that the card is detected,I can also tell cause the activity light is constantly on instead of it blinking.I decided to uninstall the windows wireless driver from the graphical tool, and hash out the blacklist entries and reboot the pc. But still my wireless card is not working.I just want to revert to ubuntu's own driver, how do I do that now?
The Hardware Driversscreen shows that it needs the driver for it and when I click "activate" it tries to download it. This doesn't work because neither my ethernet nor wireless cards work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to compile Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller driver for fedora 13 64 bit kernel version is 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64. I have installed kernel source , kernel header and necessary all things to compile it. (linux-firmware-20100806-4.fc13.noarch also installed). I tried AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13 source from Atheros web site.
But when I try to make it it give following error.

This driver is not supported on kernel versions older than 2.4.0. Stop. It is not compiling issue because I compiled and installed broadcom wireless driver.

I am trying to clone a working Centos 5.4 system onto a new box with a ASUS P5KPL-CM motherboard. I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:

I've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine.
