How is it possible to use both r8168 and r8168 nic drivers
I have both cards on motherboard (one pci and another pcie).
when installing one driver instruction suggest to remove another...
this is what I have found, without solution
After compiling the Realtek drivers from their page (ver 8.024), installing the module, blacklisting r8169 and updating the initramfs, I still can't get the network card working.The card is listed in lshw as RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller.lsmod shows only r8168.dmesg keeps spitting once and again, every second or so the following:

I've had some hiccups with my the wired connections on my new ASUS M5A88-M motherboard, ethernet card is a Realtek 8111E. The default drivers keep giving me an unstable connection - keeps starting and stopping. I figure it must be the drivers since the connection is fine when I boot to the windoze os. I went here and downloaded the "LINUX driver for kernel 2.6.x and 2.4.x (Support x86 and x64)" file. Untarred and ran the .sh. Checked speedtest.net and the result was almost a mirror, if not better, than when I did speedtest on the windoze os. I read this thread here which gave me some insight. The .sh appears to have replaced a r8169 driver with the one I downloaded, r8168. But when I restart, it reverts to the r8169 driver.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust made the jump to Ubuntu, and until this install I considered myself very tech savvy. Now not so much! Built my new desktop, loaded Ubuntu 64 bit no problem. But I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to load the native driver for my realtek wireless adapter. I successfully un-tarred the file, and used the terminal to run the make command by using cd command to navigate to the file. It returned a wall of text, and in my mind looked to work. Next I go to run "./clean" in the same file location in the terminal and it returns:
"ERROR: Module r8192s_usb does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_rsl does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_ccmp does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_tkip does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_wep does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt does not exist in /proc/modules
Not completely sure if this is an issue, I try moving to the next step of instructions issuing the command "insmod 8712u.ko" in the terminal same file location and get the error message
insmod: error inserting '8712u.ko': -1 Operation not permitted
I've tried running "sudo insmod 8712u.ko" from both that file directory, and from my home file directory. My guess is I'm missing a step or need to be typing these commands in a different file directory in the terminal.
The card is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 and I have it in the network manager. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.
So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,

I printed off the Readme file from RealTec and went though the following procedure. If anyone spots a glaring error could you please advise and I will try and fix. I changed to superuse using : sudo su and entered my password. All good so far.I was already in the directory containing the downloaded RealTec driver. I downloaded RLT8192SE ver 0019 as this was the closest to my hardware version and the latest driver available.
I used the command : make
and then : make install
Both these commands ran ok. However when I rebooted and activated wireless using Fn F10 on the laptop I was still disconnected from WIFI.
I then used : iwconfig wlan0 up
but this resulted in an error (see below)

I had the elrepo kmod-r8168 driver running smooth for a while on my development box.
Yesterday, I did a clean install on it and when I tried to install the latest kmod-r8168 rpm, it failed to enable the networking support:
# yum --enablerepo=elrepo install kmod-r8168
The install performed all proper steps to disable the 8169 driver, I double checked to be sure.This is not a connectivity issue. If I remove the kmod-r8168 rpm, reboot the server and run the ifconfig eth0 up to activate the interface, everything works as expected. I use the latest kernel (2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 x86_64).
First, I performed a clean install, activated the eth0 and did a yum update, then installed the kmod-r8168 with yum. Then, I reinstalled the OS again, activated the eth0 and installed the kmod-r8168 on a 5.5 CD based kernel, same fail results. The only hiccup is: every time I start the box, I have to activate the eth0 interface (with default CentOS 8169 driver):
# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.3
# ping -c 3 192.168.1.1 (no packets lost)
# ifconfig eth0 up
Once I do this, I have network connectivity.
I have a:
# lspci | grep Ether

Looks like the r8169 module that gets loaded is not a valid choice for this chipset. The main error that I see is:
r8169: eth0: link down
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
I have verified the cable and it's good the windows machine next door is fine using it without packet loss.
The system is a HP Desktop, just CentOS 5.5 loaded on it (base, with no updates).
I found a few fixes which I tried to use, to no sucess. updating drivers, turning router on/off, turning wireless switch on/off, various other fixes from ubuntuforums. tried to upgrade to Natty Narwhale to see if the problem worked it's way out, to no avail. I've spent two days trying for this. Anyone out there willing to point me in the right direction or hold my hand?

After some googling I found out a lot of forumposts about the same problem from year 2007, but the troubles seem to disappear on the newer versions and seem to be back now? With those posts I managed to get the link up by using ethtool by setting autoneg off and setting speed to be 10mbps and half duplex. Any other speed/duplex combination fails.
One suggestion I found was to install r8168-driver from Realtek instead of the r8169. It didn't help, result was very much the same.
I booted to 9.10 live-cd and there the network worked as intended (100Mbps, I dont have a gigabit switch)
I really wouldn't like to fall back to 9.10, but my file server is not very usable with 10mbps.
does anyone know if the realtek wireless card driver issues have been sorted? It is just so annoying not being able to use Ubuntu on my laptop when all my other PC's are running it.Looks darn good though doesn't it
View 9 Replies View Relatedis how I added the RealTek 8188CE (or other RealTek drivers) to my newly installed Fedora 14 on a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 laptop. This is assuming you have performed a regular install of Fedora 14 and have done nothing else.
1. Download the drivers at the RealTek download page here:URL...Search for your model in the "Download Search" box and selecting the Linux version of the software. In my case I typed in 8188CE and selected RTL8188CE (Software).
2.Extract the downloaded file into the desired location, open a terminal window, and navigate to the folder where you extracted the drivers.
3.Enable Sudo using the following command:su -echo "username ALL=(ALL) ALL" >> /etc/sudoers.Where "username" is your account username.
4.While still logged on as root, type in the following to install gcc and the kernel headers:yum install gcc kernel-devel kernel-headers patch make exit(From this point you really only have to follow the readme.txt instructions in the drivers folder, but I'll add them here)
5.Change to Super User sudo su
6. Compile driver from the source code make
7. Install the driver to the kernel make install reboot
I am wondering if there are working realtek drivers for 11.3 and where to get them? I went to realteks site but only found drivers for linux 2.6 and i dont know if they will work.

Ok, so I go to Broadcom and download the drivers. But, when I try to install with the Makefile, Terminal tells me that make is not installed! Now, how do I install my drivers without make?

I have just completed a clean install of 10.04 and my wireless is not working.It detected my hardware and installed the drivers. It is activated in the hardware Drivers section and the wireless button light is lit.When I click the connection icon in the panel the wireless has nothing to connect too and says disconnected. The Ethernet connection is working fine.BTW the wireless worked just fine in 9.10.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created my own wireless network which connects my windows laptop and my lexmark printer and bought (a while ago now) an PCI wireless adapter to fit into my Linux box.
The machine itself is quite old now but still going strong; however since i fitted the wireless card the machine won't reboot.
It'll start up and shut down fine but if i do updates which require an reboot to complete the machine shuts down fine. However it will only get so far as the Compaq splash screen and won't advance from there.
I have reseated all of the components, disabled the onboard lan, prioritized the hdd all TNA.
The wireless itself works fine however i believe the issue might lay in the drivers (might be using really basic ones. I have an installation disc however it was created for windows and obviously won't run (not in wine either).
I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!

I can't get any sound to come out of my laptop through Kubuntu. Please help me by giving me step by step instructions, because I'm a total noob at such things. I've went through the Comprehensive guide as well -to no avail. to sum it up:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI cant connect to the internet wirelessly or with a RJ45 connection. Last week my son came round and thought it was very call the internet worked fine then. Then he downloaded a programme called wireshark. Since the installation of that programme there has been no internet. Even the internet icon on the top bar has gone Aswell as the network manager section has vanished from the preferences menu. I have uninstalled wireshark thinking it will correct its self but havent had much luck. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 (lucid) Kenel Linux 2.6.32-generic GNOME 2.30.2
View 9 Replies View RelatedTrying to stop drivers for realtek nic being picked up so I can do pci passtrhough for these devices to kvm vms later. in 10.04 and 10.10 I did this by appending to blacklist.conf as below, but in 11.04 the drivers are still being loaded. Should I be doing this a different way? or is blacklist misbehaving?

For some reason my network card started going 10Mb/s half duplex instead of 1000Mb/s full duplex. System is connected to 8x1Gb HP switch.Other devices connect fine through the switch and get full 1Gb network.I have Centos 5 with all updates. Driver comes from elrepo and as well is updated.
