Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Realtek 8185 Card - Can't Make An Ad-hoc Network?

Jan 11, 2010

The card is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 and I have it in the network manager. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.

So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,

Code:
ivan@ivan-desktop:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"internat3"

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless Internet With Realtek RTL-8185 In 10.04?

May 12, 2010

Im not able to establish a Wireless Internet connection in Ubuntu 10.04.

Ive tried these steps:

1. Wireless Internet did not show via the Network-icon. Only the 2 LAN-gates where shown

2. I installed the Windows Driver (net8185.inf) via ndisgtk package

3. After restarting the computer, 2 LAN-gates and 1 WLAN where listed via the Network-icon

4. Normally WLAN should automatically start scanning for available networks, but that didnt happen

5. When I tried to connect to my own network, the computer tries to connect for 1 minute and than stops because no connection could be established

6. A wired Internet-connection does not give any problems

Details:
- I first had Ubuntu 9.10 but I wasnt able to make a WLAN connection either. I followed the same steps. After that I upgraded to 10.04
- iwconfig in Terminal gives an IP-address which consists of 12 identical characters.
- lspci in Terminal shows these data:
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)

[Code]....

My questions:

- How to create an Internet connection via my WLAN-card?

- How to install the option to search for available networks automatically?

Ubuntu Networking :: Realtek 8185 Wireless PCI Not Being Recognized?

May 30, 2011

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 (natty-64 bit) and my wireless PCI card is not being recognised by default. Previously, when I upgraded to 10.10 I had to go to the Realtek website, download the driver for RTL8185 and install it (following instructions in the readme file) to get my wireless card recognised and working properly. This time around, that approach doesn't seem to work. When I try to install it using "make" I get the following error:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Home Network Is Not Recognized By Network Card (RealTek RTL8190 Mini PCI)

Jul 12, 2010

my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

Ubuntu Networking :: PCI Realtek RTL-8185 "wireless Disabled By Hardware"

For reasons of "soon to arrive baby taking over my office" I have had to install a wifi PCI card in my PC. It's a TrendNet TEW423PI and the chip is a Realtek rtl-8185. the card will not connect and if I hover on the network manager widget, it says "wireless disabled by hardware". I have run a few commands to try to understand what is going on but I can't see anything wrong.

Ubuntu Networking :: Realtek 8185 Not Working ?

Feb 15, 2010

I am brand new to ubuntu (I installed it about 2 hours ago on my new PC). Everything so far has seemed really easy and straight-forward, but I am having problems trying to connect to my wireless network.

I have a Realtek 8185 wireless card, and have the disk with the inf file on it. I installed ndisgtk but when I pointed it to the inf file, I got an "error while installing" message, then it showed up in the list of currently installed drivers in ndisgtk but as an invalid driver. I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

I actually have another wireless card in my old PC (a belkin of some sort) - would I be better off using that? I'm using an ethernet cable at the moment and it works absolutely fine, I just plugged it in and off I went.

Ubuntu Networking :: Realtek 8185 Disconnecting After A Few Hours?

Oct 2, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 32 bits and a Realtek 8185 wireless card. The card worked perfectly fine with WPA for a long time in Windows 7, but on Ubuntu I'm having problems. Using it without installing anything else makes it work for a very short time. It disconnects after a while and I have no other choice but to restart the computer.

Using windows drivers and ndiswrapper doesn't work at all (in fact it makes things worse because it stops recognizing my card at all). Using the linux drivers from Realtek's website is what works the best so far. I had to compile them and install them. But it still disconnects after a few hours if I'm using WEP (and only after a few minutes if I'm using WPA). I looked at other people with 8185 problems in this forum but their solutions didn't work for me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Realtek RTL-8185 With Ubuntu 10.04 64bit?

Jun 21, 2010

I've been busy all day searching forums to get my RTL-8185 to work -consistently- on Ubuntu with no luck. Now most threads were quite old and were about older 32 bit versions of Ubuntu, so i'm wondering if someone found a way to get this card working properly with a fully up to date version of 10.04 64bit ? (uname & lspci output below)

The best (/least bad) result so far was to unload the rtl8180, clear the auto wlan0 setup in 'Network Connections' and reload rtl8180. I tried the ndiswrapper way with the 32 & 64 bit XP drivers but it complained in -both cases- that the 32b driver wouldn't work with a 64b kernel and wlan0 didn't show up in iwconfig.

Running Linux mint 10 After the installation the wireless connection worked but it was very weak and intermittent. The icon would show 1 bar or none. iwconfig showed the rate at 1Mb/s. The same card worked fine in windows and on a 32bit version of linux. Installed new driver from realtek. Now the iwconfig readings look good and the icons shows 2 and sometimes 3 bars. But it will not connect at all! I even turned off all security on my router but it would not connect.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Internet Drops Frequently With Realtek Card On Kubuntu 10.04?

Feb 11, 2011

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04.2 LTS on a Bangho laptop. Kernel 2.6.32-28-generic i686. My card is: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187B Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps Network Adapter iwconfig wlan0 gives me:

Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"Default_WLAN"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.442 GHz Access Point: 00:06:4F:8D:B9:AF
Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr: off Fragment thr: off

[Code]...

Usually when this happens, for 10 or 20 seconds it appears to be connected (i.e. the heart symbol is there) but I can't ping google or my router, then it "realizes" it's disconnected. It takes one or two attempts to reconnect successfully by pressing the "active" button. Meanwhile throughout the disconnections and re-connections the signal is very strong (98%).

I had the same problem with my old access point, at first I thought it was the cheap/old hardware, so now I bought an "ENCORE ENDSL-A2+WIGX2 | ADSL 2+ Modem with 4 Port Wireless Router". The problem persists only with a stronger signal.

OpenSUSE Network :: Wireless Card Realtek 8187 Connectivity - (Firefox) "the Server Can't Be Found"

Dec 3, 2009

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-SP6944C, Pentium Dual Core 2.16, 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, DVD-RAM UJ880AS, display 15.6 TFT widescreen, ethernet Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express, WLAN Realtek RLT8187, Opensuse 11.2 and KDE 4.3.1. Installation was OK and finally the wireless card is working... but I don't have conectivity bacause in the browser (Firefox) appears a message saying "the server can't be found"

I follow the howto write by Swerdna. With ndiswrapper I install the XP driver for RLT8187, KnetworkManager is in charge of connections showing both eth0 and wlan0, the wireless sign of router Dlink DIR-280 is OK, in the dialog box of network connection I put the mac address of the wlan card but I think that is not the problem.

Other thing that I missed is that I don't find boot.ini at any directory to add modprobe ndiswrapper in the boot sequence, in etc/init.d/ appears a "boot" file, is this file that I have to change to modprobe ndiswrapper??

Hardware :: Realtek Wireless Card Undetected

I have Slackware(x32) 13.1 installed on my computer. Everything runs just fine except it doesn't seem my wireless card.I looked around and found a driver on the Realtek website. But, after I installed it, linux wouldn't boot. It would just hang. The driver did help my get the card detected, though.

On lspci, I found:
02:00.0 [Realtek company name here] RTL8101E/RTL8102E
03:00.0 [Realtek company name here] Device 8172

On windows, it said I had RTL8191SE. I am confused as to which card I have and which driver I need.I reinstalled the driver and rebooted. I then turned off my ether card via bios. Then I rebooted. Linux then booted just perfectly. However, I couldn't get the wireless to work. I was freaking and then left to go do something else with my hands. Then I realized I had the card turned off.
I mentally punched myself. >.>

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Make/compile The Driver For A Wireless Card

Feb 16, 2011

I've been trying to make/compile the driver for a wireless card. The card is usb, it's titled Micronext MN-WD550M and seems to use the rtl8712 driver.Firstly, though I did this once two years ago I seem to have completely forgotten how to install a driver in ubuntu.

Secondly, I'm not sure I have the right driver anyway since in the notes in the readme it says it is for i386 (I run amd 64). The driver is here [URL] Thirdly, after clicking through various readmes and documentation without feeling any more intelligent, I then tried using ndiswrapper to install a windows driver and ubuntu would crash if the usb wireless card was plugged in. Blarg.I feel like this should be so simple I'm going to make a clean installation of ubuntu 10.10 shortly (for various unrelated reasons) so anything I messed up with ndiswrapper should be back to normal.

Debian Hardware :: 6.0 RC1 And Realtek 8111C Network Card

Jan 22, 2011

I'm new to Debian, and new to Linux at all (well, I have used Linux sometimes in the past; Red Hat 7.1, Knoppix 3.6, Ubuntu, and some other distros but by no meaning I could call myself a real, full-time Linux user). But that's what I want to change. After some research I've decided on Debian. At first I wanted to download a stable build (5.0.7) but I've seen 6.0 RC1 was released just recently and I've changed my decision to get this version instead. Anyway, I'm currently downloading the DVD (slow connection, 2Mb/s only) and I've spotted this page in the meantime.

Thing that got my attention is "Potential installation problems with RTL8169-based network cards". I've checked my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3) and I have Realtek 8111C on it. As far as I understand, it's not RTL8169-based but any real problems with my Realtek 8111C card, I don't want to install an OS from which I couldn't browse web. I know I had big issues with it while installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard but that's what I could expect when installing OS on unsupported hardware. So any way to install Debian 6.0 RC1 on a computer with Realtek 8111C network card?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Realtek 8169SC Network Card Not Working

May 28, 2010

I am not very experienced using Linux but I never had big problems with Ubuntu. Now I am busy writing my PhD thesis and therefore I had to install CentOS to use one lousy program that I could not get to work under Ubuntu. However, it seems to be quite fine and it is working well besides one fact: The network card stopped working. In the beginning it was working fine although the speed was only on the level of 100mbit. The switch and the LED on the card indicated gbit connection, though. I tried to install the driver for the 8168 card which reduced the card to 100mbit (indicated by the LED on the switch and the card).

Ethtool indicated it was gbit capable but I couldn't activate it. After reading more and more I figured I have to use the 8169 driver again and live with the 100mbit. Unfortunately, after uninstalling the old driver and reinstalling the driver 8169 the network isn't working at all anymore. The network-manager displays the card as inactive and when I try to turn it on it complains about the wrong mac address, which I am not able to change to the proper one. I am using CentOS 5.5 with the latest updates.
