I've been using Ubuntu for months now, and love it except for the fact that I'm getting poor speeds while using wireless.
For a little background information: I have a Dell XPS m1530 with a Broadcom BCM4321 wireless card.
I've used the 32-bit version and can't get ndiswrapper to work. It will say invalid driver or something.
When using the 64-bit version, my wireless card's native windows driver will install and it says "Hardware Present", but the wi-fi isn't activated at all.
I've followed the guide found here:
url
and have also tried this person's solution:
url
However, nothing works. Despite the fact that ndiswrapper shows that my driver is installed, the wireless doesn't work.

I've made the real mistake of buying a laptop with a Broadcom wifi adapter on it. (That thwacking sound is me kicking myself for not noticing after spending weeks and weeks carefully choosing the model I wanted.)
lspci gives this:
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4727 (rev 01)
I have downloaded the 32 bit drivers from here (am running Mandriva 2010.1 Free 32 bit). The readme indicates the 4727 is supported by the latest OS drivers amazingly. [URL]. I have installed the Linux kernel source files.
First problem comes with the first instruction in the readme.
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tar or <path>/hybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz
The tar instruction just does nothing, so I just right clicked in Dolphin and unpacked it to its own directory. I navigated the terminal to where it unpacked and did make. I got this:
Code:

Ubuntu seems to think my device is disabled. The switch is on and the blue light next to the switch is also on. I read up on this on other threads, but the solution involved using the cd. I had to install from windows using the iso and alcohol 120 because my cddrive is totally dead.

Im using natty in lenovo b460. After installation was not able to connect to wifi. Ethernet is working alright. So searched for additional drivers and installed the Broadcom 43xx drivers. After restart the network applet says the wireless is disabled by hardware switch, even after it is switched on/off several times.

i have a broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01) wireless adapter on a dell 1501 run by ubuntu 10.10.this particular model and revision is suppose to be absolutely supported by linux and indeed it did work perfectly before the user ran a upgrade from ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04.subsequently i have reinstalled 10.10. as i recall when i installed ubuntu 10.10 the first time i simply ran the System>Admin>Additional Driver installation tool to make the wireless work. i cannot recall if i ran the b43 or the sta driver but i have tried both this time and had no luck.
i am aware that the broadcom adapters are notoriously troublesome and i have tried the two workarounds here URL... as well as their third alternate workaround with no success.

I have an HP Pavilion Dv6-1230US laptop that I bought from staples when it was on sale for 800 dollars with a 4 year accidental damage warranty. It came with Vista Home Premium 64Bit installed. It had Windows 7 Business 64Bit on it at one point, And the latest windows installation was Windows Vista Business 32Bit. My trial period ran out on vista and I switched to Ubuntu 10.04 32Bit, and, as always, I have a problem with the wireless card. I have looked it up and everything, i do have the drivers installed, and it looks functional, but its not. It will act like its going to connect to my AP (Netgear WNR3500L that is like 2 days old), but it eventually askes me for my WPA2-Personal AES key, which I have supplied, and is correct before hand, i type the exact same thing in and it still doesn't work.
I've tried sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade, but it doesn't work. nothing has to update. This installation was installed today, and updated about 6 hours ago to the fullest extent. The wired works absolutely perfect (that's how i updated it). Hardware:Laptop has a Broadcom 4322AG b/g/draft-n wireless card from HP integrated into the laptop. The router is a Netgear WNR3500L which i bought because we are switching ISP's soon and our old router is a modem, that will only work on a DSL connection.

I have a fresh install of 11.04. I am trying to install the "additional drivers" Broadcom STA wireless on my dell laptop. The drivers worked correctly pre-install on the boot up test run, but now they won't activate or uninstall.
On activation attempt, it says : installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log.
The log reads: Quote:

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx Entertainment Notebook with Broadcom Wireless Lan Driver.
I didn't want to bother anyone with this, but I just could't find a solution. I was happy using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, because the wifi was working fine, but I messed everything up dealing with networking in terminal.
So formated and now I have Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, but that didn't solved my problem at all, because my wifi driver still unfunctional.
Before anything, I tried commands like "dbus restart" and "network restart".
So after reading that I can install by getting ndisgtk and the .inf file, I downloaded the right driver from HP Support's page of my notebook. Extracted the package with Wine (got some error because I wasn't running Win7, of course, but that doesn't matter.).
I did this: [url]
And this is my final result:[url]

I just installed 9.10 and I can't detect any wireless networks. Is the card compatible with 9.10? Do I need to install any drivers? If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Marking this as somewhat urgent as I need to get internet access for some coursework soon, and also because my parents will kill me if they find out I've done anything unusual with the laptop because it's new and they think anything non -MS is a virus.

here is a small script that I wrote to assist others in getting it installed and working. First download the drivers from [URL]... then copy this into a script: compile.sh

if the kernel changes then you will have to do this again. if you don't want that hassel and don't mind staying on your current kernel then lock it in the package manager.

I've tried searching all over the place, and I'm drowning in outdated and contradictory information. I have a brand new Netgear WiFi PCI adapter. The exact model is "WN311B-100NAS N300" The related output of lspci is
Code:
03:06.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4321 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
lsmod returns:
Code:
Module Size Used by
lib80211_crypt_tkip 17387 0
wl 2568244 0
lib80211 14991 2 lib80211_crypt_tkip,wl
[code]....
So, I know it's using the BCM4321 chipset and wl driver. Ubuntu detected this card without any trouble, and I was able to use the "Additional Drivers" application to get it running before disconnecting my ethernet.
The card works well, and is very stable until I try to download a file larger than a few MB, or try to play a video stored on my home network. As soon as I try either of those, my computer locks up hard. No error messages. Just a hard lockup that I can't get out of with anything short of holding down the power button on my case until it cuts the power supply.

I have had a search around, any cannot find any thing I can make sense of as to how I go about getting the above card to work with Fedora 11. Just done a fresh install (need Linux for some development) but have no wifi. My chipset is this Broadcom BCM4310. There seems to be a whole load of options, and I don't know which works and which don't:
kmod-wl
broadcom-wl
ndiswrapper
I can sit with an Ethernet cable to install/update as necessary, but really could do with wireless.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 online today. I was using 10.04 32-bit before, and the network drivers were easy to find and install. Ubuntu did the job for me and they worked flawlessly. It was a relief I didn't need to search around.
Even though 10.10 (64bit) found the drivers for me, both ethernet and wireless, they do not seem to be working alright. I installed both, made a restart. I found that the WiFi light on my laptop stays on, even if the wireless network is turned off using either the key combination (Fn+F2), or manually turning it off.
Issues with the ethernet? I am right now using ethernet but it does not care to detect the connection. Empathy won't connect automatically as a result- says no network connection. But here I am, posting this. Evidently, there is a connection, right?
Issues with the wireless? The WiFi light stays on all the time, and it isn't able to get hang of the connection I have at home. It just won't show any wireless connections available. When I tried to connect by giving it the SSID and the encryption type and password, it didn't work. Just kept asking for the password again and again (I have checked with the router- the password is correct).

ok basically i have a new dell inspiron n5010 with a broadcom 4313 wifi card. it doesnt work with ubuntu studio 10.10. I have the drivers all installed and it works on ethernet with the broadcom STA proprietry driver. if i disable this driver the eth doesnt work. but the driver shows its working (screenshot-1).
There is no pop up or anything in the task bar for detected wifi. i open the network settings and it shows up with a wifi option but i have to go into properties and manually type in what i have "the_den_meribel". which didn't work. (screenshot-2).
i have tried the other driver broadcom-sta-common and that doesnt make it work either. screenshot-3. i did try to install the "lp-pphhy" or whatever it is (seacrh for firmware-b43 in synaptic).
i have a list of results from what i have typed into the terminal: dell inspiron n5010

I just put 10.10 on my D830 and I love it except for a delay when I'm using the internet. When I click on a link while surfing the web it takes about 13 seconds before it responds. After that it works just fine.
My Windows 7 PC and my Macbook Pro don't do that so I'm guessing it has something to do with Ubuntu.
