How to install Realtek 8139 Ethernet driver? I tried downloading from realtek website. there is no driver for Realtek 8139. Although i downloaded the driver for 8168 for Linux, i could not install it after uncompressing the tar file
View 1 RepliesThere seems to be some trouble with 8139too not working in a previous post. Has anyone found a solution to this? ubuntu version 2.6.24 (Hardy Heron?). Followed all known possibilities but information is all mostly out of date. module 8139too.ok? does not load. Following makefile on 8139too.c supplied, after altering to suit my version, comes up with 3 pages of errors?. ifconfig shows nothing for eth0like the last person markjuggles i have hit a brick wall here. Am I wasting my time?

Checked cable/network with 386Box running Ubuntu 8.04 all OK. Could not get Realtek 8168 on mother board to work on Gigabyte H55M-S2H motherboard. I tried to install r8168 driver but no luck ... so I bought another Linux compatible card which turned out to be a RTL8139c (eth1) and the driver I am using on this is card is 8139too.

My preference would be to get the motherboard ethernet working but perhaps the card may be easier to get working. Anyway after searching the net for ideas and trying different things I've just about given up. I have reinstalled Ubuntu today so eth0 is back to using the r8169 driver. I'm no expert so my attempts at following other recipies have so far failed. From what I have read the 8139too driver should have worked with the RTL8139C chip so I have run out of ideas. I must be doing something wrong.

Installing Fedora13 Kernel 2.6.33 killed my RealTek NIC. I found the following page which helped a little bit: [URL]. Unfortunately the card still does not work.
If I do
lsmod | grep r81
I get:
r8168 91833 0
So I am not sure the really the new module is loaded. Doesn't anybody have the realtek working with fedora13 ?

This is the card I am using Realtek rtl8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet Nic. I am using Ubuntu 8.10, codename intrepid. I hate windows because of the viruses I contract everyday, so I decided to use Ubuntu, but this does no good without networking. so I can get online. What I do now? It is an onboard LAN card, cable is plugged in a green light is on, ubuntu just doesn't recognize it.

View 8 Replies View Relatedis how I added the RealTek 8188CE (or other RealTek drivers) to my newly installed Fedora 14 on a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 laptop. This is assuming you have performed a regular install of Fedora 14 and have done nothing else.
1. Download the drivers at the RealTek download page here:URL...Search for your model in the "Download Search" box and selecting the Linux version of the software. In my case I typed in 8188CE and selected RTL8188CE (Software).
2.Extract the downloaded file into the desired location, open a terminal window, and navigate to the folder where you extracted the drivers.
3.Enable Sudo using the following command:su -echo "username ALL=(ALL) ALL" >> /etc/sudoers.Where "username" is your account username.
4.While still logged on as root, type in the following to install gcc and the kernel headers:yum install gcc kernel-devel kernel-headers patch make exit(From this point you really only have to follow the readme.txt instructions in the drivers folder, but I'll add them here)
5.Change to Super User sudo su
6. Compile driver from the source code make
7. Install the driver to the kernel make install reboot
I absolutely love Lubuntu on VirtualBox. I installed it to my Compaq Mini CQ-10 without issue. However, there are no drivers for the Wireless or the NIC. Ok, so I go to Broadcom and download the drivers. But, when I try to install with the Makefile, Terminal tells me that make is not installed! Now, how do I install my drivers without make?

And how the heck can I ensure that they stay installed, even after installing Fedora? I suppose putting the RPM on a USB Flash Drive will work, but that's the only thing I can think of... And is there an RPM out there for this specific driver?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have loaded Suse 10.3 on a system that has 4 Ethernet ports, all Intel chipsets. 2 ports have the 82571 chipset, 1 port has the 82573 chipset and the last one has the 82567. The 82567 chipset can use the e1000 driver and the 8257x chipsets require the e1000e driver. We are only actually using the 82571 ports.
When the system is booted, the 82567 seems to get bound to the e1000 driver and the 82573 gets bound to the e1000e driver. Doing an "lsmod" I see both drivers loaded. It appears the 82571 drivers are getting bound to the e1000 driver which is a major problem. They work for a while but eventually they lock up with enormous error counts according to "ifconfig". How I know the e1000 driver is bound to the 82571 ports is that when I remove it(modprobe -r e1000) and then try to use one of them, I get a "network unreachable". When e1000 is loaded these ports seem to work fine. I tried modding the file in /etc/sysconfig/hardware that corresponds to the PCI address of these ports(i.e., hwcfg-bus-pci-0000:08:00.0) to force the module to e1000e, but no luck there either.
I am using DELL VOSTRO 1510 laptop , it has realtek r8169 ethernet card, i installed RHEL 5 in my laptop , i checked for the driver cd provided by DELL, they given one source rpm and two other rpm for ethernet card, i tried to install them through "rpm -ivh (path)/realtek-r8169 (full name).rpm " but it asking about dependency . i tried it by using yum also but still its not working.
also i tried to create binary rpm through source rpm, but it only generating spec not binary rpm, when i am using " rpmbuilt -ba (spec file) " its showing command not found error. RHEL5 have ethernet driver for realtek-8129 in their list but not for realtek-8169, i checked it in system-config-network window, now what to do, how do i install this rpm , i want to access net through RHEL 5.
my Ethernet card stopped responding a few days after installing Ralink Wireless Card Driver for Linux. I have tried installing the drivers from Realtek's site, but it fails. I also have tried reinstalling the network manager, and that still didn't help any. I have also tried looking online for any post or blog that could help, but that also turned up nothing. The Computer is a new 2010 / 2011 (bought it on new years eve) HP Pavilion desktop that came with windows preinstalled.

I have this wired problem with my realtek rtl8101e ethernet. It keeps on disconnecting randomly with my router. My computer is connected to D-link router via LAN cable. This problem does not occur in my windows xp os.
I have to suspend and resume my Debian os (wheezy 7.6 KDE) to get the ethernet connection up everytime it disconnects with my router.

I just performed a fresh install of Suse 11.4. It worked great except that the network communication would cut in and out intermittently. I managed to solve the problem posting it here for other users and for future suse releases. I will give the hardware I am running, the symptoms and the fix:

Default module: r8169 (run lsmod to see loaded modules)

1) First make sure that linux kernel source is installed in your system (yast software management)
2) ensure that gcc is installed (yast software management)
3) Download the latest linux driver for RTL8111E from the realtek website The one that I am running is the 8168 driver version 8.024.00
4) unzip the tarball (creates a directory called "r8168-x.xxx.xx")
5) As root run the autorun.sh from inside the newly created "r8168-x.xxx.xx" directory
I am wondering if there are working realtek drivers for 11.3 and where to get them? I went to realteks site but only found drivers for linux 2.6 and i dont know if they will work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had some hiccups with my the wired connections on my new ASUS M5A88-M motherboard, ethernet card is a Realtek 8111E. The default drivers keep giving me an unstable connection - keeps starting and stopping. I figure it must be the drivers since the connection is fine when I boot to the windoze os. I went here and downloaded the "LINUX driver for kernel 2.6.x and 2.4.x (Support x86 and x64)" file. Untarred and ran the .sh. Checked speedtest.net and the result was almost a mirror, if not better, than when I did speedtest on the windoze os. I read this thread here which gave me some insight. The .sh appears to have replaced a r8169 driver with the one I downloaded, r8168. But when I restart, it reverts to the r8169 driver.

Just made the jump to Ubuntu, and until this install I considered myself very tech savvy. Now not so much! Built my new desktop, loaded Ubuntu 64 bit no problem. But I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to load the native driver for my realtek wireless adapter. I successfully un-tarred the file, and used the terminal to run the make command by using cd command to navigate to the file. It returned a wall of text, and in my mind looked to work. Next I go to run "./clean" in the same file location in the terminal and it returns:
"ERROR: Module r8192s_usb does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_rsl does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_ccmp does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_tkip does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_wep does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt does not exist in /proc/modules
Not completely sure if this is an issue, I try moving to the next step of instructions issuing the command "insmod 8712u.ko" in the terminal same file location and get the error message
insmod: error inserting '8712u.ko': -1 Operation not permitted
I've tried running "sudo insmod 8712u.ko" from both that file directory, and from my home file directory. My guess is I'm missing a step or need to be typing these commands in a different file directory in the terminal.
I'm using Xubuntu Natty at the moment, on an Acer Aspire 5739G. Figured I would go to Realtek's site and get the most recent soundcard driver, since the built-in subwoofer has never worked on Linux for me.
I used the automatic install script, then when it tried to probe for other devices, suddenly I had no sound.

I`ve got a dual boot of win 7 and ubuntu 10.04. After I put the system to sleep in win7, it was unable to start the ethternet adapter back (Now after system boot, the lights around the ethernet port blink for a few times and then turn off. This repeats in a while). Now it is disabled in ubuntu too. Is there any way to start it again? It is a Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller.

Everything was working fine until yesterday's LAN Party. I could not setup a BZFlag server that others could connect to until I booted up a KNOPPIX 32-bit DVD! Is there something buggy about the 64-bit ethernet drivers or am I missing something here
