Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Internet / Make It Possible?
Jul 29, 2010
I cant connect to the internet wirelessly or with a RJ45 connection. Last week my son came round and thought it was very call the internet worked fine then. Then he downloaded a programme called wireshark. Since the installation of that programme there has been no internet. Even the internet icon on the top bar has gone Aswell as the network manager section has vanished from the preferences menu. I have uninstalled wireshark thinking it will correct its self but havent had much luck. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 (lucid) Kenel Linux 2.6.32-generic GNOME 2.30.2
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.
I can not connect to internet using Fedora 9. But I can connect using Windows XP on the same machine. I have a ADSL modem & the modem is connected to the Ethernet Port of my Computer.
Currently I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows XP on it. I want to switch to Ubuntu, so I have the OS on a flash drive and I can run it fine. The only problem is,I cant see any wireless networks in range. I know the router is working because I can connect with Windows fine. A notification also pops up telling me i have to install missing drivers. But when i click on install, the progress gets to 99% and fails. It says i need the Broadcom B43 driver, but i don't know how to get it.
I've been trying for 3 days now, gone to a couple of ubuntu sites, asked some friends who unfortunately don't have the time to assist me, and gone through several forum responses on here to try to find the solution to my problem. The problem is my inability to connect to my wireless network. I have a linksys USB device for my wireless, and the wireless router is literally right next door to my room. I am able to find my router and my neighbor's router from my computer. However I can not connect to my router. It is WPA enabled, and I have the correct password. It is just unable to connect to the network, it tries for a few minutes then doesn't connect at all and says wireless network disconnected. I am currently hooked up to an unsecured wireless network, but I can't connect to the internet. I am using firefox, but it doesn't seem to connect to any site I try.

I use Hasee L141 notebook and ever since I installed ubuntu, my internet connection using both wire and wireless does not work but for the windows it works alright. I asked friends to help me but it yielded no result. Is there anything that I'm missing? I re-installed it several times but still had the same problems.Someone please help me. I even tried installing using the wubi.exe but still the same problem.
I have a new laptop with me and I am unable to connect to internet from It. i have a wireless router with WLAN connection. I am able to connect from windows 7 But in ubuntu the network manager doesnt show any WLAN connections at all.. I am a newbie and dont know how to start debugging this Issue. I may like to know,

2.Then how to make the wireless connection UP and running.
I have been using Windows XP, and last month i had Linux Mint installed. I was connecting to the internet with an external modem and everything was running fine, until while experimenting with the settings,i bust the whole thing. What i did was to do a "right click" on the 'computer icon' at the bottom right-hand corner to disconnect and from that day i am unable to connect from Linux, but i can still do it under Windows.I had done the same thing under Windows but after going to the 'control panel/network settings' i managed to get the thing working.I went to the 'control panel' in Linux, and under 'network ' i get the message: "Auto eth0 => never". i have been trying to 'edit' the 'settings'
Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 580 MT tower pc with Windows Professional. However unable to connect to the network or the internet when I load a copy of Ubuntu Karmic on dual boot. Windows networking and internet working fine. Is this an ethernet adaptor hardware issue? Broadcom NetXtreme 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet controller-PCI Express card Will try later connecting through a usb ethernet adaptor to see if this is really the problem.
I have dual boot system and on windows I am able to connect to wireless but on Ubuntu I am not able to connect to wireless.

I have a multiboot system running several versions of linux which do not all use the same software for handling wifi connections or have the same kernel. They have all stopped being able to connect to the internet in the last few days. My Windows 7 set up still connects though it seems to be a slow to establish a connection.Could BT have changed something and if so what?
I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and am unable to connect to wireless internet. I looked under additional drivers and there doesn't seem to be anything listed there.

The server connects fine, I can load pages, FTP in, etc. So everything seems good on that end. When I try to use the internet from the Ubuntu box, however, it doesn't seem to want to connect. The internet won't load through firefox, and attempting to update through the repository won't connect. I've tried playing around with refreshing the connection and rebooting and such, but nothing seems to be fixing this. I can't think of what the issue may be as the connection is working, as I can get on the server, but can't seem to get it to connect outward from the actual box.
I am unable to connect to the Internet in lucid via a proxy server using apt-get or synaptic. Opera & firefox connects to the internet fine with the proxy setting.
I have tried the following solutions:
1) set proxy setting using systems|preferences|network proxy
2) editing ~/.bashrc & /etc/.bashrc
3) creating a /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
4) putting the proxy setting in synaptic
For the proxy setting I have used the both the verbose name as well as the ip address. There is no logon requirements for the proxy server. Either formats work in the browsers.
I have Ubuntu Server 10.10 installed which is guest OS on a XP host. The problem is I cannot connect to the internet. I am using bridged network but still it fails to connect. what configuration should I change in VMWare or should I have to modify anything in XP.
I use Windows7 on my laptop. I have got the following version of VMware Server installed on it. **VMware Infrastructure Web Access Version 2.0.0 Build 122589** **VMware Server Version 2.0.0 Build 122956** I am running Fedora Core 10 on VMware, but Fedora is not able to connect to the Internet. However, when I try to ping google.com, it works fine. However, if I try to open google.com in mozilla-firefox, it gets stuck at "Connecting to google.com" and then finally times out. Similarly, yum also gets stuck.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10. I was unable to connect to the Internet with Firefox or to download packets using command line or Synaptic Package Manager, or run updates. I disabled IPv6 in Firefox and am now able to browse, but I still cannot connect to repositories, I cannot download packages, I cannot run updates either.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.

I am a beginner to ubuntu. I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop using wubi. When I am trying to edit the IP address using network editor, apply button is not highlighted.I managed to give IP as well as netmask through command prompt. But I am not able to give gateway and dns IP.Please help me configuring this.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 using the wubi installer to dual-boot my machine. Under ubuntu, I am not able to connect to the internet or my router. Everything works fine under windows. I have tried to find relevant information in the forums, but nothing seems to work for me. I have tried disabling ipv6, setting a static ip, but no go. ifconfig shows no IP, dhclient results in no DHCP offers and pinging my router's IP results in Network is Unreachable.
I'm using ubuntu karmic and I'm not able to connect to the internet with my reliance netconnect data card using network manager. Other distros like fedora, opensuse n sabayon connected easily with nm. Ubuntu detects the data card flawlessly but just doesnt connect. This problem has been persistent even in previous ubuntu versions, n I used to use wvdial. But downloading wvdial on some other comp with every dependency is really cumbersome.
Heres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
