OpenSUSE Wireless :: Realtek 8192SE - Make - No Such File Or Directory - Stop

Oct 22, 2010

It's my first Linux. (and the only one I could install. So I won't(can't) try with another version.)

I got these results.

And, I'm following this thread - Realtek RTL8191/8192SE WiFi Drivers.

I did : sudo zypper install automake make linux-kernel-headers kernel-desktop-devel kernel-syms // and now I have all the highest versions.

But I'm still getting this message..

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Driver For Realtek 8192se ?

Jul 25, 2010

I am using ubuntu 10.04lts on my compaq615 laptop, which has a realtek wireless card, with which I had a few issues to get it to work.

Here is what I had to do:

When I do this, it works beautifully, after setting my router to open I may add.

So, as I said it is probably the fastest wireless I have ever experienced, but my problem is this, everytime I switch my laptop on I have to re-install, starting at:

Debian Configuration :: Realtek 8192SE - Squeeze Freezes At Boot

Nov 25, 2010

I've run into an issue that I'm not sure how to address. I'm running Squeeze and upgraded my system this morning.

The packages upgraded were:

About 10 seconds after upgrading, the system froze completely and I had to do a hard restart. The system froze again 10 seconds after the bash login prompt was displayed (I'm not using a display manager) after reboot. The source of the problem appears to be my Realtek 8192SE wireless driver. I was able to boot the kernel in recovery mode and uninstall it, which has fixed the issue. Rebuilding the driver causes the problem again.

I suspect that something to do with the sysv and init packages affected the driver in this way, but I've no idea where to start in trying to fix this. I can't imagine this is a fault of the Realtek driver as it worked just fine up until this point.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Realtek 8185 Card - Can't Make An Ad-hoc Network?

Jan 11, 2010

The card is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 and I have it in the network manager. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.

So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,

Code:
ivan@ivan-desktop:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"internat3"

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Realtek 8172 Not Recognized - Fixed Right Or Not?

To my question: I found this article (HOWTO: Xplora E16 Ubuntu 9.04 32Bit and 64Bit with wired and wireless networking - Novatech Community Forums), which seems be consistent with my situation (wired connection works, wifi doesn't and my kernel is 2.6.31). I ran the installation and it appears it worked...BUT, is this going to create major problems down the line (kernel upgrades, etc.?)

Networking :: Opensuse 11.4 Cannot Use The Tar.gz File From Realtek Rtl8192se

Not too many entries for this Realtek product in the forum, but it appears that the commands MAKE and MAKE INSTALL do not work in opensuse 11.4 for the above Realtek NIC. I suspect that it is Realtek's driver which is a tar.gz file and the problem. They do not provide either an rpm or deb file.

Is there anyone out there who has had success with this driver in opensuse 11.4, or for that matter, opensuse 11.3?

OpenSUSE Network :: Installing Driver Error - No Rule To Make Target `modules' - Stop

Apr 13, 2011

I am relatively new to linux and am running into a problem. I just got a new laptop and need to configure/install it's wireless driver but am getting an error when running "make". The error is: make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.

I have scoured these forums and know that others have the same issue (when configuring other drivers/programs). I am sorry if this post is redundant. It sounds like the Makefile is pointing to the wrong directory. I am using opensuse 11.4, have make and gcc installed. My kernel is linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 (I just re-installed the desktop kernel to make sure it was up to date). The driver I am trying to install is located here: AUR (en) - rtl8192ce.

Another forum suggests pointing somewhere in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 directory instead. Is this correct? Should I be pointing to a folder within this? I am not a programmer but any description about what I am actually putting in this directory and why would be awesome (so I can learn a bit more). Or just helping me solve the problem would be great too.

General :: Make New File Permission Inherit From The Parent Directory?

Jun 12, 2010

I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update.

So I setup the permission and owner group like this

drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data

where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory.

I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this

-rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt

When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission.

I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it.

$ umask -S
u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx

I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.

Other thing that I missed is that I don't find boot.ini at any directory to add modprobe ndiswrapper in the boot sequence, in etc/init.d/ appears a "boot" file, is this file that I have to change to modprobe ndiswrapper??
