Ubuntu Networking :: New 9.1 Install - Onboard Rhine II Not Working
Mar 14, 2010
This is my first attempt switching to Ubuntu from Windows, and I am having some trouble getting the on-board ethernet to work in Ubuntu 9.1. I have a MSI KM2M Combo-L VIA KM266 and VT8235 Chipset which uses the Rhine II chipset. I am trying to use the onboard ethernet, however it does not connect to the network after installing Ubuntu, although the driver appears to have been automatically installed. I also tried this with several other network cards (Intel, Dlink, Netgear) with various chipsets, but none seem to work.
Our network Netgear switch/router has DCHP enabled, and all of the Windows computers connect just fine. This is true even when we plug another computer into the ethernet cable serving the Ubuntu computer. When I manually configure the IP address, it shows the network connection as connected, but it is unable to ping and/or connect to the internet (except for localhost and the assigned IP address). I used 192.168.11 as the IP, 255.255.255.0 as the netmask, and 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. Below are several commands, that I've run to provide some additional information (using auto eth1).
I have had some problems with a SATA DVD drive under installation of Slackware 12.2, [URL] So i tried 13.1 instead. But now the ethernet card is not working Its a VIA Rhine card, and it was recognized just fine under 12.2 The following command did nothing: Code: ifconfig eth0 up I am getting no errors. I have also tried using netconfig, no luck there either.
I just built a computer and the onboard nic pluggin is loose and won't register or connect right... so I had to put another nic card in pci to connect to wired network for internet. Problem now is its delaying something fierce... i'm thinking if i can manage to uninstall or disable the onboard nic maybe things would work better... problem is i wouldn't know how to do it... I know hardware is connected via a document somewhere in the file system... if I were to delete the file would that disable the nic or would it just reinstall itself on the next boot?
I have been trying to get my onboard sound working with OSS in gstreamer-properties when i press test i get sound coming out of my speakers, my onboard sound is recognised in ossxmix, but i dont get sound anywhere else. Onboard soundcard is Realtek ALC883
Im using RHEL 4.2, here in bios level onboard network port is detecting. But when trying to fetch that network port i cant able to connect internet. when i put ifconfig eth1 the port is not available in onboard.
I did, what one should not do: I changed a running system. I removed a PCI sound card, replaced a damaged DVD+RW drive and upgraded to Slackware-current (Slackware 13.37 RC-3). The mainboard is an MSI KT4V with VIA8235 onboard sound. Now, my problem is a bit weird: Everything seems to work just fine. E. g., programs like speaker-test, play and aplay show no error message. In fact, they seem to be able to play sound. E.
Code: play /usr/share/sounds/pop.wav gives no error message. But: I don't get any sound out of my speakers. Here is some additional information. I'd be really grateful, if someone could point me to relevant information or useful advise, what this problem could be caused by.

I have installed slacware 13 on an intel server, but the IP add that i have assigned does not work. I used ifconfig to check the ip but it shows me 127.0.0.1. I have run netconfig with the ip address i need and restart the machine, but it goes back to 127.0.0.1
I have a A7V8X-X motherboard with VT6102 [Rhine-II] on board network device. Internet connections work fine for long time on openSuse 10.3, 11.1 11.2 and 11.3. But since a few weeks ago, internet connections began to fail: several times when I want to open any Internet site with Firefox, it answers:
Now that I set up a 4x750GB OnBoard RAID 10, I'd like to install my 11.2 Suse (w/ GRUB dual boot)from BIOS, I've partitioned my HDD so I have:- Array1 = 30GB HTFS, 30GB XFS, 30GB Solaris, then extended part. for all (each OS) swap, temp, etc ...- Array2 = 30 GB HTFS (DMy Documents); 30 GB (/home); 30 GB (unformated) and then a big part for game install and VMware partition (Win98 for my old games, winXP32, etc ...)As a (sad) matter of fact, instal WinXP64 and/or Vista64 works perfectly. I see the array as partitioned by BIOS, and everything works.
But I can't have my 11.2 (64) SUSE installed on the drive, I have -for now- a VMware for it running ... on Windows :s(while I'd prefere the opposit)When I start w/ Suse11.2 DVD (downloaded), it says it can't install as there is NO HDD !!ok, fine, I plug back a PATA HDD, then I start the install, then I move the partition to the SATABUT, even so, I can't start the Suse ...I then lauch the repare/recovery on the install DVD, but it says that there is no root partition, no SUSE partition to fixe
I just bought a gigabyte sniper motherboard and when I installed ubuntu 11.04 it does not recognize my internet bigfoot E2100 1 x Bigfoot Killer E2100 chip.
I have used a wireless LAN PCI card for 3 years and now I want to switch back to the onboard wired LAN card but I cant get it to recognize and I have enabled it in BIOS also the wireless LAN card has been removed.Should I put it back in and then try to switch?
I bought a used Dell Precision T3500 after I had a positive experience with it at a previous job. Since my AMD motherboard died recently, I'm interested in using the Dell as my full time machine.
However, I cannot seem to get my PS/2 keyboard to work; this is crucial as I use a fully mechanical keyboard and need my N-key rollover that PS/2 provides.
The weird thing is that the PS/2 keyboard works perfectly during a text-based installation of Debian GNU/Linux. When I boot into a newly installed system if I press any key on my keyboard my Caps lock and scroll lock LEDs flash and no keystrokes are registered (?).
I want to know if there any way to find out interface of Linux Box(Suse 9>)is onboard or externally attached (pci slot)?
Note:- This is a problem which I am facing in my work. In onsite server we need to configure n/w card too. So some time when we configure, I'm confusing which interface should be configured. Client insisting us to configure embedded(onboard) interface. How to find out that.
I have two onboard gigabit Ethernet ports and 3 10Gb add-in fiber ports. When everything is cabled but nothing is IP'ed yet, I do an ifconfig -a and the two gigabit ports are showing as "__tmp2143330114" and "__tmp1076785124", eth0, eth1 and eth3 show as the 10Gb addin cards. On other (identical) servers, eth0 and eth1 are always the gigabit ports and eth2, 3, and 4 are the 10Gb ports. Anyone know what is going on?How can I make sure that Red Hat detects and assigns these ports correctly on boot, or at least can I reassign what ports are designated eth0-eth4?
I have installed Fedora 14 on Intel's DH67BL mother board, which has a on board LAN port, Fedora 14 does not detect on-board LAN. Unfortunately, intel does not provide any driver support for linux OS :-(. However, if I install an additional LAN card, Fedora 14 detects it and everything works fine.
I'm running a fresh install on an intel i7 system on an asus p6t deluxe v2 motherboard with the onboard NIC (Marvell Technology pci-e). I know the NIC is working as when I boot into the onboard OS that Asus provides (Asus Express Gate SSD)I have a working net connection.Booting up CentOS hangs at determining IP information for eth0 and eventually fails with the following error:PING xxx.170.30.1 from xxx.170.31.231 eth0: 56(84) bytes of data---xxx.170.30.1 ping statistics ---4 packets transmitted, o received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 2999ms, pipe 3 failed.
I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.
Have spent 6-8 hours trying to get the darn wireless to work. Started on Network Manager, switched to WICD, then back to Network manager. Have uninstalled and reinstalled driver a dozen times. When I go to System->Administration->Windows Wireless Drivers, get pop-up saying "Unable to see if hardware is present" When I click "OK" then network driver window says "Hardware present: Yes" and the driver is listed.First time user of Linux, and getting frustrated.I really want this to work so I can become as smart as all of you reading this post.
I have just done a new install and have no network (LAN) connection. My network card blinks as if there is activity but the corresponding diode on my router is not active.I have checked the ethernet cable by switching with a valid connection to a WinXP system; like this I know that all the router ports are good. The network configuration module does not indicate a wired connection.
I have also tried sudo ifdown eth0 and sudo ifup eth0 but receive error message: interface eth0 not configured Can anyone help as it is my first experience with linux systems.
Put Ubuntu 8.10 on it and right of the bat..My internet wont work...Cant view any wireless connections nearby..Heck it doesnt even show the option to connect to anything? I havent used Ubuntu..in a long time..and need to get my laptop up and running soon.
I just installed ubuntu 10 on my pc and unfortunatly I don't have internet. I only have one pc wired to my 2wire modem. I want to use dhcp, no static ip if possible.
I have a laptop that was working fine with 10.04 LTS. Today, I did a full 10.10 install and now my wireless is not working. Thinking it had to do with 10.10, I did a full install back to 10.04 LTs. Wireless is still not working. I tried installing the driver for my laptop's internal wifi using ndiswrapper, but that didn't work either. I have another laptop that is identical to the non-working one, with the exception that it is running a Celeron processor and non-Nvidia graphics. Otherwise, they are identical with respect to the wifi adapter. The Celeron machine is giving me absolutely no problems.
Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 by a clean install. My laptop is an acer aspire 5050 with a IEEE 802.11 b/g Wlan wireless card. I am using only Ubuntu in my laptop. Today I noticed that wireless is dead. The indicator is off and I can see that there is not detection of any wireless networks in the "Wireless Networks" menu. In this point I must inform you that I didn't experience any wireless problems with the two previous versions of Ubuntu (9.10 & 10.04). Below you can see the outputs (in italic format) of some commands that I peformed in terminal:
When I run Kubuntu on livecd everything works perfectly, I just click on systray icon, select my network, enter wpa pass and it's all setup! But after I installed Kubuntu on HDD it doesn't work like that anymore. [URL] Version 10.10. Maverick Meerkat
I am trying to install RHEL6.0 x86 from a PXE server. Right after formatting the disk installer shows this error:"Unable to read package metadata. This may be due to a missing repodata directory. Please ensure that your install tree has been correctlygenerated. Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: anaconda-edHatEnterpriseLinux-201009222021.s390x. Please verify its path and try again."I extracted the image on Windows host and then moved it to the Linux PXE server
I just installed ubuntu 9 and I went to package manager to install aircrack-ng version 1:1.0-1 and it says that it has installed but then when i go to applications/internet/aircrack is not shown.
