Networking :: PXE Install For RHEL6 X86 Not Working?

Jul 15, 2011

I am trying to install RHEL6.0 x86 from a PXE server. Right after formatting the disk installer shows this error:"Unable to read package metadata. This may be due to a missing repodata directory. Please ensure that your install tree has been correctlygenerated. Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: anaconda-edHatEnterpriseLinux-201009222021.s390x. Please verify its path and try again."I extracted the image on Windows host and then moved it to the Linux PXE server

Red Hat / Fedora :: RHEL6 Login Banner With Cancel Button Not Working

Jan 25, 2011

Having a little issue with creating a login message banner in RHEL6 that uses two buttons. One for Accept which logs the user in. The second for Cancel which immediately logs the user out. I've modified the /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file to have the script, posted below, and it worked perfectly fine in RHEL5. But in 6, when you click Cancel, the user is still able to log in. It even states in the system logs that the user cancelled the login. As you can see, I have the script using the 9th field of the user's env to get the PID, and using the kill command to end the process, which should be logging the user out right away if they click the Cancel button. This works in 5 without issue (though I used -f5 in RHEL5, had to move it to -f9 for RHEL6).

Red Hat / Fedora :: How To Install RHEL6 Via PXE Boot

Dec 20, 2010

I am looking to install RHEL 6 over the network. I havent done any kind of installation before, so this is proving to be an uphill task ergoI just registered on this forum.I'll first let you know what i have:1. I have an RHEL 6 image on one machine and on the same machine I also have a DHCP server ( but am not sure if I have a TFTP server as well - anyway to check ?)What I need:

I need to install RHEL 6 on another machine using the image on the earlier mentioned machine. I have come across many links on my searches online which cover the theoritical aspects which mentions the use of "kickstart" file which once transfered to my client-machine has to be run to install RHEL on my client.. But my problem is, I am unable to find any place which gives a sequence of steps or commands to follow which will help me install this... Can you please guide on how i can go about this

Red Hat / Fedora :: Cannot Install Edimax 7717 Drivers On RHEL6

Jul 10, 2011

I am using a wireless usb device to connect to my router and the make/model of the device is Edimax 7717Un. Drivers for Linux came with the CD and I tried to follow the Read me .sta but I cannot understand few things.

1 When I tried to compile the code by using $make command the code is getting compiled with some errors which are mentioned below:

_Linux_STA_V2.1.2.0/os/linux/../../os/linux/rt_linux.c:1508: error: 'struct net_device' has no member named 'open'
/root/Desktop/LIN_FILES/2009_0521_RT2870_Linux_STA_V2.1.2.0/os/linux/../../os/linux/rt_linux.c:1509: error: 'struct net_device' has no member named 'stop'

[Code].....

if there is way of installing the driver for my make and model in RHEL 6.0 or is there anything I can do( which I think would be slightly too much for me) in this circumstances. I am attaching README.STA and the MAKE file with this post .

When I go to System->Administration->Windows Wireless Drivers, get pop-up saying "Unable to see if hardware is present" When I click "OK" then network driver window says "Hardware present: Yes" and the driver is listed.First time user of Linux, and getting frustrated.I really want this to work so I can become as smart as all of you reading this post.

Networking :: Old Iptables Script Not Working With New Install?

Jun 10, 2009

I have an old iptables script (?) that I got from iptablesrocks.org, which works fine with my antique Fedora 4 system. I transferred it to a brand new RHEL 5.3 install, but when I go to use 'iptables-restore < firewall_script' it throws a 'no command specified' error at the very last line of the script, which I have never seen before. The script works fine on Fedora 10 and RHEL 5.1, I am pretty sure it even works fine on RHEL 5.2. Could it be that the fact that I am using 64-bit Linux for the first time, and need to do something different? Here is the script: [URL]

Fedora Networking :: BCM4312 Not Working Under F11 With Fresh Install

Jun 12, 2009

Just tried new Fedora 11 yesterday, did a fresh install with ext3 /boot and ext4 file system, booting looks great, but wireless doesn't work. I have tried using broadcom-wl, dnmouse script, dnmouse broadcom f11 rpm, fwcutter but not ndiswrapper

Code:
# rpm -qa | grep broadcom
broadcom-wl-5.10.79.10-2.fc11.noarch

Code:
# lspci -nn
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)

Code:
# lspci -vvv | grep 4312
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM4312 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller
ifconfig only shows eth0, lo and pan0 interfaces, and got nothing from iwconfig...

Code:
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
pan0 no wireless extensions.

Even tried to blacklist b43 after installing broadcom-wl driver, but no luck. Broadcom-wl works fine with Fedora 10 on my laptop, is it possibly because of the new ext4 file system? Should I try ndiswrapper or install Fedora 10 again and do a preupgrade? I also use fedora at work.

Ubuntu Networking :: New 9.1 Install - Onboard Rhine II Not Working

Mar 14, 2010

This is my first attempt switching to Ubuntu from Windows, and I am having some trouble getting the on-board ethernet to work in Ubuntu 9.1. I have a MSI KM2M Combo-L VIA KM266 and VT8235 Chipset which uses the Rhine II chipset. I am trying to use the onboard ethernet, however it does not connect to the network after installing Ubuntu, although the driver appears to have been automatically installed. I also tried this with several other network cards (Intel, Dlink, Netgear) with various chipsets, but none seem to work.

Our network Netgear switch/router has DCHP enabled, and all of the Windows computers connect just fine. This is true even when we plug another computer into the ethernet cable serving the Ubuntu computer. When I manually configure the IP address, it shows the network connection as connected, but it is unable to ping and/or connect to the internet (except for localhost and the assigned IP address). I used 192.168.11 as the IP, 255.255.255.0 as the netmask, and 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. Below are several commands, that I've run to provide some additional information (using auto eth1).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Stopped Working After Install?

Oct 11, 2010

I have a laptop that was working fine with 10.04 LTS. Today, I did a full 10.10 install and now my wireless is not working. Thinking it had to do with 10.10, I did a full install back to 10.04 LTs. Wireless is still not working. I tried installing the driver for my laptop's internal wifi using ndiswrapper, but that didn't work either. I have another laptop that is identical to the non-working one, with the exception that it is running a Celeron processor and non-Nvidia graphics. Otherwise, they are identical with respect to the wifi adapter. The Celeron machine is giving me absolutely no problems.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Is Not Working After A Clean Install Of 10.10

Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 by a clean install. My laptop is an acer aspire 5050 with a IEEE 802.11 b/g Wlan wireless card. I am using only Ubuntu in my laptop. In this point I must inform you that I didn't experience any wireless problems with the two previous versions of Ubuntu (9.10 & 10.04). Below you can see the outputs (in italic format) of some commands that I peformed in terminal:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Stopped Working After Install To USB HDD / Fix It?

Jan 15, 2011

My desktop computer has another Linux distro on it. Wired networking was working fine. I wanted to try Ubuntu 10.10 so I installed it on a spare USB HDD. After install, networking still worked on both distros.

I moved the USB HDD to my win7 laptop and Ubuntu 10.10 booted fine. Once booted, Ubuntu asked to configure wireless on the laptop. I tried to do this but it did not work.

Therefore, I moved the USB HHD back to the desktop and booted. Now the wired network does not work from either Ubuntu or other distro (fedora 14). And to top it all off, the wired network will not work even from the Ubuntu live CD.

I have checked all connections, switches & cat5 cables to my desktop computer. I can still access the network and internet from my laptop (in win7) so I do not believe it is an infrastructure issue. I can confirm that everything works from the cable out of the back of the desktop through to the internet.

Here is the output from the usual troubleshooting commands in Ubuntu 10.10 code...

Both wired and wireless work fine on a fresh install. I can reboot and try again and they both still work. While installing the nvidia drivers however they both stop working, and upon a reboot they still aren't working. I can connect via my desktop and my phone to the same access point i'm trying to go through on my laptop, so the problem is isolated to my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: After A Fresh 11.04 Install DHCP Server Not Working?

Aug 1, 2011

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 (from 10.04) and spending several hours trying to figure out why the ad-hoc connection between my two computers (Fedora14 <-> Ubuntu 11.04) no longer worked - it had worked fine for almost 2 years with 10.04 - I've finally concluded it was a DHCP problem. This realisation (which was slow in coming!) dawned on me when I reversed my setup and configured the Fedora box as the DHCP server and everything was suddenly working perfectly! A quick internet search threw up an installation file called "isc-dhcp-server" which other Ubuntu 11.04 - related forums are also complaining about. My problem is that this file, although available in the repository, is not even installed!!!

It seems unlikely that the developers forgot to include DHCP support, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
