I have installed slacware 13 on an intel server, but the IP add that i have assigned does not work. I used ifconfig to check the ip but it shows me 127.0.0.1. I have run netconfig with the ip address i need and restart the machine, but it goes back to 127.0.0.1
View 2 RepliesI have installed Fedora 14 on Intel's DH67BL mother board, which has a on board LAN port, Fedora 14 does not detect on-board LAN. Unfortunately, intel does not provide any driver support for linux OS :-(. However, if I install an additional LAN card, Fedora 14 detects it and everything works fine.

I removed a PCI sound card, replaced a damaged DVD+RW drive and upgraded to Slackware-current (Slackware 13.37 RC-3). The mainboard is an MSI KT4V with VIA8235 onboard sound. I'm having trouble getting X to work after switching from onboard intel video to a 5000 series ATI card. Apparently I need to switch to a MESA or fglrx driver. I did a sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver and it installed but still no X. I'm currently using Karmic. I've tried to boot with a live CD which works fine and changed the xorg file manual but that was a mess.
When I start I get a checking battery state ... done and it stays there forever sometimes and sometimes I can login but without x. Typing startx gives me a long list that says check the xorg website. I've been looking around for a way to fix this and haven't been able to get it working.
I'm trying to load CentOS 5.5 on a new server with an Intel S5500BC motherboard using RAID 1. This board has a known problem with RHEL 5.x and the driver disk supplied has a fix. Here is the download for the driver [URL] Under the ESRT2_RHEL4-5_SLES9-1--11_v.13.21.2010_README file are directions in Section 3.1.3 on how to install the RHEL5x megasr driver. This works. The last thing replaces the ACHI driver with the megasr driver (paragraph 15) by loading the megasr.13.21.0614.2010-1-rhel50-u4-all.img in a temp file and then type "./replace_achi.sh". This step doesn't work and it is the critical one as it replaces the achi with megasr in the initrd image.

Just did a clean install on a Dell Latitude E6400 of Slackware 13.1 and, for the most part, all is working great. Got wicd installed and wireless came right up, nvidia drivers installed and video is fantastic, but for some reason my wired connection isn't happening. The device is detected, but I can't get an IP.

I have a Gigabyte mainbord with an Intel IHC9 sound chip. When I configure it via YAST the test-sound plays fine, and when I issue:
sudo speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
some friendly voice starts speaking as well.
But:

doesn't bring about anything sound-like.

Since an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04, all wireless devices for me in the plasma network manager applet are not functioning properly on a Dell Latitude E4310. Specific problem: No wireless networks appear in the plasma network manager applet. Manually-configured networks do not connect. A separate CDMA card appears, but cannot establish a connection. The CDMA card does function on 10.10 machines, and formerly worked on this machine. The only wireless 'network' that appears in the plasma network manager widget is 'hidden network'. Manually adding a network and checking "Connect Automatically" does nothing. I attempted a fresh install after the upgrade itself failed the work. There are no networks to click on, and selecting the device itself merely shows the status page.

I just built a computer and the onboard nic pluggin is loose and won't register or connect right... so I had to put another nic card in pci to connect to wired network for internet. Problem now is its delaying something fierce... i'm thinking if i can manage to uninstall or disable the onboard nic maybe things would work better... problem is i wouldn't know how to do it... I know hardware is connected via a document somewhere in the file system... if I were to delete the file would that disable the nic or would it just reinstall itself on the next boot?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first attempt switching to Ubuntu from Windows, and I am having some trouble getting the on-board ethernet to work in Ubuntu 9.1. I have a MSI KM2M Combo-L VIA KM266 and VT8235 Chipset which uses the Rhine II chipset. I am trying to use the onboard ethernet, however it does not connect to the network after installing Ubuntu, although the driver appears to have been automatically installed. I also tried this with several other network cards (Intel, Dlink, Netgear) with various chipsets, but none seem to work.
Our network Netgear switch/router has DCHP enabled, and all of the Windows computers connect just fine. This is true even when we plug another computer into the ethernet cable serving the Ubuntu computer. When I manually configure the IP address, it shows the network connection as connected, but it is unable to ping and/or connect to the internet (except for localhost and the assigned IP address). I used 192.168.11 as the IP, 255.255.255.0 as the netmask, and 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. Below are several commands, that I've run to provide some additional information (using auto eth1).

I have found many threads talking about turning on/off the webcam on Eeepc, but only one gives a rather complicated way to take a picture(whose quality, according to the author of the thread, is quite unpredictable). There is a built-in 'digital camera' program of KDE to add cameras, in that way, perhaps one can control the camera to take a picture or a video, but I I don't know if the on-board webcam is among the list. The ethernet adapter on my Asrock H97M ITx/AC motherboard isn't recognized during install. It's a Qualcomm Atheros AR8171 and none of the available options like alx or e1000e are working.
I originally tried to install openmediavault [URL] .... - which is based on debian - from an USB Stick and only came up tothe point where it tries to recognize the network card. It couldn't and promted me to choose one manually. So I checked the specs of my motherboard (a shiny new Asrock H97M ITx/AC with a Qualcomm Atheros AR8171) and after a short search I narrowed it down to alx or e1000e. Both of which only triggered a short flash of the interface and nothing more. I guess that's linux' way of sticking its tongue out at me.
For the last 2 days I therefore searched high and low and came across many possible solutions that either didn't work or included too much linux lingo that I couldn't understand it.
One solutions was to install a vanilla debian and then somehow install OMV over it, but debian itself couldn't recognize the network card either. So now I have a pretty minimal debian (CD1 install only) running but how to make it recognize and use the onboard network device.
Just out of curiosity, I plugged in an old hard drive with Win7 that hasn't been updated for at least 10 months. It only had a driver for AR8131 and warned me of using that, but it worked totally fine. Debian however doesn't even try to use an old driver but just flashes its interface at me.
Is there a way to make it work or is this board just not supported by debian and I have to resort to some other distro or a windows installation?
I tried install Debian 5.04 on Alix 3d2 board (no VGA) but after boot i see only one line (Probbing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok) and everythig stops.
