Ubuntu :: Onboard Nic Plug Broken Pci Nic Inserted Need 2 Remove Onboard

Sep 8, 2010

I just built a computer and the onboard nic pluggin is loose and won't register or connect right... so I had to put another nic card in pci to connect to wired network for internet. Problem now is its delaying something fierce... i'm thinking if i can manage to uninstall or disable the onboard nic maybe things would work better... problem is i wouldn't know how to do it... I know hardware is connected via a document somewhere in the file system... if I were to delete the file would that disable the nic or would it just reinstall itself on the next boot?

OpenSUSE Network :: Port Forwarding Not Working - Tests Using Netcat

I have two SUSE(2.6) virtual machines running in the same subnet with two network cards each as shown below.

VM1------------------------------------------------------------------------------
appstage1:~ # ifconfig

Ultimately my DB will run in VM2 and any DB requests coming in at 2055 of VM1 should be forwarded to port 2055 of VM2. Since I do not yet have a DB running I am trying to test with netcat.

Ubuntu Networking :: New 9.1 Install - Onboard Rhine II Not Working

Mar 14, 2010

This is my first attempt switching to Ubuntu from Windows, and I am having some trouble getting the on-board ethernet to work in Ubuntu 9.1. I have a MSI KM2M Combo-L VIA KM266 and VT8235 Chipset which uses the Rhine II chipset. I am trying to use the onboard ethernet, however it does not connect to the network after installing Ubuntu, although the driver appears to have been automatically installed. I also tried this with several other network cards (Intel, Dlink, Netgear) with various chipsets, but none seem to work.

Our network Netgear switch/router has DCHP enabled, and all of the Windows computers connect just fine. This is true even when we plug another computer into the ethernet cable serving the Ubuntu computer. When I manually configure the IP address, it shows the network connection as connected, but it is unable to ping and/or connect to the internet (except for localhost and the assigned IP address). I used 192.168.11 as the IP, 255.255.255.0 as the netmask, and 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. Below are several commands, that I've run to provide some additional information (using auto eth1).

Slackware :: Onboard Sound VIA82xxx Not Working In Current And 13.1

Mar 24, 2011

I did, what one should not do: I changed a running system. I removed a PCI sound card, replaced a damaged DVD+RW drive and upgraded to Slackware-current (Slackware 13.37 RC-3). The mainboard is an MSI KT4V with VIA8235 onboard sound. Now, my problem is a bit weird: Everything seems to work just fine. E. g., programs like speaker-test, play and aplay show no error message. In fact, they seem to be able to play sound. E.

Code:
play /usr/share/sounds/pop.wav gives no error message. But: I don't get any sound out of my speakers. Here is some additional information. I'd be really grateful, if someone could point me to relevant information or useful advise, what this problem could be caused by.

Debian Hardware :: No Driver For Onboard Network Card - Asrock H97M ITx / AC

Sep 28, 2014

The ethernet adapter on my Asrock H97M ITx/AC motherboard isn't recognized during install. It's a Qualcomm Atheros AR8171 and none of the available options like alx or e1000e are working.

I originally tried to install openmediavault [URL] .... - which is based on debian - from an USB Stick and only came up tothe point where it tries to recognize the network card. It couldn't and promted me to choose one manually. So I checked the specs of my motherboard (a shiny new Asrock H97M ITx/AC with a Qualcomm Atheros AR8171) and after a short search I narrowed it down to alx or e1000e. Both of which only triggered a short flash of the interface and nothing more. I guess that's linux' way of sticking its tongue out at me.

For the last 2 days I therefore searched high and low and came across many possible solutions that either didn't work or included too much linux lingo that I couldn't understand it.

One solutions was to install a vanilla debian and then somehow install OMV over it, but debian itself couldn't recognize the network card either. So now I have a pretty minimal debian (CD1 install only) running but how to make it recognize and use the onboard network device.

Just out of curiosity, I plugged in an old hard drive with Win7 that hasn't been updated for at least 10 months. It only had a driver for AR8131 and warned me of using that, but it worked totally fine. Debian however doesn't even try to use an old driver but just flashes its interface at me.

Is there a way to make it work or is this board just not supported by debian and I have to resort to some other distro or a windows installation?

General :: SFTP Server Port Blocked On Uni Network / Need To Change Listening Port

Oct 21, 2010

VERY new to linux, erm but I have an issue that needs solving!I recently moved to university, where their network blocks sftp port 22, this means that I cannot connect to my FTP server which is running a version of linux. Now I've got this ftp server connected to a seedbox and it was created using the following walk through..Code:I have written this guide for a friend, but I though it would be useful for others as well.

There are several guides floating around, but I found that most always cock up in some way. This one is tried and tested to work on Debian Etch (on an OVH rps, but should apply to most servers). If there is a new stable release of rtorrent/libtorrent then I will update this guide to show you how to update it (without reinstalling the whole server).

At the bottom there are also instructions to install ftp access & some network monitoring software.Basically, I would really like someone to be able to construct the commands on how to change the listen port for sftp connection on linux or add another port to the list that Linux would use so that I could put in through putty.

OpenSUSE Network :: Port Redirection - Multiple IP Addresses - Or Run On Port 80

Apr 7, 2011

In SuSE firewall0. I do have a openSuse 11.4 and multiple IP addresses on eth0 interface

I run (trying to/have to) multiple TOMCAT servers.

I am trying to have each tomcat instance listen to on separate IP address for example:

What i am trying to do is to redirect

a) tomcat 1 -

a) tomcat 2 -

And so on.

I know that it has to be possible.

I do have just eth0/

Is is it possible. Do I have to create "vittual interfaces"? eth0:1, .......... and do redirection ?

"Server" has got just single interface - just 1 ethernet calbe goes to that server. I am planning to have 10-15 tomcat's on that server (I have to unfortunatley) and each has to run on port 80

Is it possible to "grant" permissions to normal users to run app on port 80 - that would solve me lots of problems if impossible to redirect.

I tried to setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/tomcat ...... but no luck

Fedora Hardware :: Deskjet Plus On Parallel Port Working With F13?

The jobs simply show as pending in the printer queue.

Current uri is parallel:/dev/lp0.

As a side note, my Epson printer on the USB port works fine, but it's using CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified. Should I be trying something with a different (e.g. CUPS) driver, or a different way of specifying the foomatic driver, or what?

Fedora :: Change The MOBO And Trying To Get The Serial Port Working?

Apr 20, 2011

I've just had to change the MOBO and trying to get the serial port working, I see from previous posts there are some problems lurking in the past.

/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3
/dev/ttyS2, UART: unknown, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3

but I'm not seeing anything from a GPS receiver in NMEA at 4800 no par 1 stp I know that was working about a year ago. I think udev was not helping ,as I was getting permission denied to the com port, I added myself to group dialout. and no message on startup now

I need to be able to talk to a piece of kit with 9600 baud and nothing. I have win32 s/w to drive it , but it falls over in wine. My laptop still has win7 on it in a tiny partition but no 9w d connector and I'm waiting for a USB converter cable. Too many variables ! I'd forgotten all the hassle of having to install drivers just to get basic things running. But as the stupid thing couldn't manage using the driver for my NIC, I was stuck with hyper-terminal, and nothing from the GPS board @4800 or another piece of equipment running at 9600. I suspect the com port on the new mobo doesn't wan to play

It can accept multiple connections on a single port but i want that once a client connects on to 123 port, he is forwarded to some other port and no longer on 123.

Fedora Hardware :: Config For Mobo With Onboard Graphics - AGP - Iommu - Aperture Mem Hole - GA-MA785GT-UD3H

Oct 12, 2010

In understanding with Fedora logs are trying to tell me and if I need to adjust some settings on my system to address these issues.

The system motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H) has onboard graphics. I understand that some of the system RAM is taken up by the graphics subsystem.

Very occasionally, I am seeing Nautilus and some other apps crash with SIGSEGV errors. Also, on the couple of occasions, parts of the display started going black - minimising and maximising the window redrew the area as before. This appears to be to do with memory access issues. I have already tested my RAM, applied the latest BIOS update on the mobo. I'm trying to understand if this is some sort of memory access violation that is resulting from the Linux kernel going off and accessing the wrong parts of the RAM and if there is a way to tell it that the graphics and system areas of the RAM are separate, through BIOS settings or kernel parameters and such?

Some questions:

1. Is my system using AGP? I don't think so. I understand AGP is on its way out. So what does the below log output mean wrt AGP?

2. Which part of the log is actually describing the memory assignment for the graphics memory?

3. Would it be of any use trying iommu=noaperture here? I am trying this out, but I don't understand if it is helping in anyway.

Have done a Google search and read on AGP, iommu, shared memory for graphics, but their interaction with each other at the hardware level and how Fedora is handling this is not sinking into my dull brain.

I have put up the system configuration, BIOS settings, logs etc for your perusal here [url]. Parts that caught my attention are highlighted.

Now, onto the bits that has my attention:
