i am trying to install device driver for my usb wireless adapter "Edimax" . i have figured it out that it recognized by device but when i submit command lshw it doesnt show configuration driver for wireless usb. i have drivers for it in the vendor cd as "driver for linux" but i dont know how to install it
View 1 RepliesFinally took the plunge and upgraded my ubuntu studio to karmic from jaunty. I seem to be experiencing a problem many have, being that my wifi card (edimax) which worked on my previous distro is now not working at all. I've done a lot of research and found the problem seems to mainly be with broadcom cards, and have tried a number of things relating to those that have worked for others, with no luck.
My problem seems to be not that the drivers wont activate or anything like that, my problem is that under hardware drivers nothing appears at all. I have no drivers present, where most people are talking of 3. i have not found anyone else with this problem. My problem is compounded in addition by not being about to use a wire connection at all.
After purchasing few wifi-usb-dongles for my jaunty and lost many hours, i had no success in bringing them to operate as master or ad-hoc.The devices were Belkin, Level1, and a TP-Link 620 Though the Belkin could work as ad-hoc, but very often disconnects due to buffers issue (though I couldn't build the zd1211b driver for jaunty and it seems that no one can really help with that).
Now I would like to consult with you ahead regarding new potential devices, whether you know it operates as master mode or ad-hoc mode under jaunty (9.04)?

I'm going round in circles with this as I'm just not very good at using the command line in Ubuntu. I've bought an Edimax EW-7811Un nano USB wifi adapter, and I'm really cheesed off at the moment because I can't get it to work on my laptop. I've got Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I really want this tiny dongle to work with my computer. Ubuntu is much fats than Windows, and I use it all the time, but my current wifi donlge is an old big monstrosity!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed an Edimax EW-7612PIn PCI-E Wifi card which has an RTL8192SE chipset. This chipset is not supported under current F15 kernels so I have installed the driver and firmware from source and have that working fine. The driver can see the card and I can issue 'iwconfig' commands successfully enough to see my Wifi network.
The problem I have is that I don't understand the relationship between iwconfig and wpa_supplicatant and as I'm running a headless F15 server I cannot use the NetworkManager GUI to help me. I should also note that the Wifi network is using WPA2-Personal encryption.
This is what I have done:
Configured /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 with what I think are reasonable values (based on google searches), including the ESSID, TYPE as Wireless, etc.
Configured /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, including using the key value returned from wpa_passphrase.
Arranged for wpa_supplicant to run from boot, using chkconfig.
However when I run 'ifconfig wlan0 up' I get the error message 'link is not ready' and indeed looking at the output from 'iwconfig wlan0' there are no configured values. I also understand that some values are configured by iwconfig and others by wpa_supplicant, however it's not clear what.
How do I permanently set iwconfig values?
How do I configure wpa_supplicant?
I can't find a working driver for this card. Notice that I use 64bit ubuntu.

I have just purchased an Edimax EW-7128g with Ralink RT61 chip and physically installed it in a system running CentOS 5.2. Trying to follow the installation instructions, I get the following:

My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter.The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device?This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

It's an Edimax EW-7128G, the reason i bought it is because there were multiple positive reviews on how well it works in linux. Ok, so i don't know linux at all. I installed Ubuntu to learn. I installed the card and as far i can see it's not working. It came with a disc with linux drivers yet i don't know how to go about using them.

I am planning to buy wifi NIC, and I would like to have it very compatible with Linux systems and also aircrack-ng apps.
Seemingly best choice for me is Edimax EW-7711In, which should have Ralink RT3062 chipset (source - WikiDevi.com), which has official drivers for Linux (source - Ralinktech.com). Also, Edimax website provides drivers for Linux (name of file contains RT3062, so I consider chipset verified).
My question is, does anybody have this card? Can you confirm it's functionality under Linux? Are you satisfied with your choice? Anyone with same chipset?
Note: Not meant to be advertisement. I haven't ever bought any card from them, neither bought any PCI wifi NIC.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the Edimax 7781Un wireless modem specifically because it works with Linux. The OS does recognise the device and tries to connect to the router, however it connects and has the two semi-circles going round then it eventually disconnects. I thought it was my wireless device with little signal strength therefore I bought this one. However this one connected once for 20 seconds, 89% strength and disconnects. I booted up win7 and it works fine, so I have put it down to the driver or the OS.
Trying to compile the driver, I am up to the make step after following instruction here. I type make, it does a few things and errors a fair few things, the last line ending in [make] *** [LINUX] Error 2
Another possibility (I think) for this connection problem could be my AMP installation, however I have neither apache, php or mysql running and I still have the problem.I read somewhere that make requires more files, is this true? And if it is, where can I get it without an internet connection on my linuxbox? (I am currently using my brothers w7 computer).

Looking at some other resources it seems iwlwifi driver is the recommended driver for this card? however it is currently using iwlang. I am constantly experiencing dropped connections with my belkin g router and I am wondering if changing the wireless adapter driver might help, even if it doesn't what is the best driver for this card?

Personally, I have no clue what this is, but someone said that after you install NDISwrapper and its components, you have to disable bcm43xx driver, otherwise the two will conflict.

How do I remove it and install the correct one? The driver that is installed is a RaLInk RT 2800pci but the one it needs is a RaLink RT2860. This is the driver that I used with the same WiFi card in Fedora 14 using Ndiswrapper. Do I need ndiswrapper this time too?
Clicking on "Connection Information" says that the connection is active and that the driver is rt2800pci but I cannot connect to anything
Here's the situation: I've got an eee pc 901 running Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. I'm using it to connect to a WPA-encrypted wireless network on a WRT54GL running dd-wrt. It mostly connects and works ok, but sometimes it just stops working for no apparent reason (the netbook still shows itself as connected), but you can't get anywhere until you manually disconnect and reconnect. Other times, it will drop the connection, and then quickly reconnect (or sometimes not). Obviously, this behavior is pretty irritating. At first I thought the problem was with the router, but I checked the logs there and they all seem fine, and other computers on the same router don't have this problem. Looking at "dmesg | tail" on my netbook, I see a lot of instances of the following error, which I'm thinking is probably the problem:

I searched for that error message and I found this Ubuntu bug report: [URL] that describes symptoms that match mine. In that report, a poster mentions that he compiled and installed a new version of the wireless driver from the Ralink website, and it fixed his problem. Do you think installing a new driver would be good? Or has that updated driver already been added to the kernel since that bug report was filed? I've never compiled a kernel module before.
One other thing, I also see repeated instances of these lines (or similar ones) in dmesg, which look like they could be related.

I have an emachines D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 with a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01). I havent done anything with it and cant seem to get it to work. I know this because when I had visto on it the card worked, but know it says that its firmware is not enabled and ive tried installing the drivers using the Additional Drivers under Administration. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I select the wifi icon on the panel, it just shows "No network devices available". I know my network can be found when I search with my iPhone, so I know there are networks to connect to. So, I checked the drivers, and it informs me that the B43 and STA drivers are not activated. So thats not a big deal, I guess, but when I use my ethernet cord, my laptop doesn't recognize/acknowledge (I'm not sure what the right term would be)it. I'm fairly sure I can't activate these drivers without an internet connection because when I do try, a message pops up saying "failed to fetch" with some long link.
My only guess is that it could be a hardware problem, but I really have no idea. I guess the ethernet problem is my only real problem. Because after I establish and internet connection the the rest is easy to fix.I'm sure its obvious, but I'll go ahead say that I'm a novice ubuntu user. I have a HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx Entertainment Notebook with Broadcom Wireless Lan Driver.
I didn't want to bother anyone with this, but I just could't find a solution. I was happy using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, because the wifi was working fine, but I messed everything up dealing with networking in terminal.
So formated and now I have Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, but that didn't solved my problem at all, because my wifi driver still unfunctional.
Before anything, I tried commands like "dbus restart" and "network restart".
So after reading that I can install by getting ndisgtk and the .inf file, I downloaded the right driver from HP Support's page of my notebook. Extracted the package with Wine (got some error because I wasn't running Win7, of course, but that doesn't matter.).
