Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wifi - Device Not Ready (firmware Missing)
Jun 17, 2011
I tried to implement the solution given at: [URL] on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, running Ubuntu 11.04. However, I still can't connect to wifi.
I can see that the files were extracted inside /lib/firmware/ (I see a b43 and a b43 legacy folder).
The lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 returns:
Code:
0b:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)

I thought I'd give Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal??) a try on an old Dell Latitude D600 I had lying around. Install went great. Everything seems to run nice and slick.. except one thing.. the wireless is giving me the old "Device not ready (firmware missing)" So I can only use my lappy on a leash.
It's a pretty common Broadcom NIC... and I've tried running the System / Administration / Additional Drivers and nothing comes up.
It seems to me I need a driver someplace...I don't know where or how to get it installed.

Recently, I wiped my existing install of Ubuntu 10.10 and reinstalled it over. That went smoothly, except for one little snag. Now when I try to connect to the Internet, up on the top when I click the little network icon, under Wireless Networks, instead of showing the networks I can connect to, it says:
"Device Not Ready (Firmware Missing)" So I move the little wireless switch on my laptop, and then it says:
"Wireless Disabled" What did I do, and how do I fix it?

I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. For some reason Wireless Network does not work any more (there was installed 9.04 before).
lspci says:
Code:
00:06.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB22/A IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link)
System->Administration->Additional Drivers doesn't list anything.

Working on Debian 7.2.0.
In a specific context I want to automatically make operationnal some USB WiFI devices, deploying automaticaly firwmare (may be not free packages) depending on device ID (vendor ID/product ID). Dev device is a Netgear WNA1000 (driver ath9k, with htc_9271.fw firmware).
I tried to reset the USB bus (modprobe -vr ehci_hcd; modprobe -v ehci_hcd) but it's not really reliable, with sometimes kernel panic.
Is there an "official" way to "mount" the device (the system create the device wlan0) just after deploying the firmware? Maybe using udev ?

I have just installed the last FC distro, and everything works good, except the wireless network.I have a Linksys N-Ultra WirelessN USB wifi card, model WUSB600N.It uses the rt2x00 driver, concretely the rt2870 driver (at least, thats the driver included in the original device drivers CD).Right now, the problem is that i don't know how to make my Fedora 12 to enable and/or connect to internet.
dmesg | tail

I've tried to install Linux systems have been failures. Trying to make this work, trying to get on the right wagon, and it's frustrating as all get-out.
Installed netbook remix onto a HP Mini 1000 (1116NR?) and everything seems to be working alright, except no wireless networking. I tried a couple of things and now it shows "device not ready" instead of "disabled", so I figure I'm getting somewhere.
The device is:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
I want in. This is my 3rd try over the years of running Linux and I always hit snags like this that I can't fix because I've never gotten to play with it enough to learn what I'm doing and generally don't have a 2nd computer like I do right now.

I have a Dell Mini 10v with a fresh install of latest Ubuntu Netbook Edition. I have enabled proprietary drivers in order to get the WiFi card to work and managed to connect at home, starbucks etc. Good stuff.
For some reason I can detect but not connect to the WiFi at work - I get prompted for the pword and after entering it the WiFi indicater will pulse for a while only to return to the pword prompt. yes, I have the right pword and can connect my iPhone and other laptops. I am really puzzled by this and really need to get on the WiFi at work - wired connection works.
my colleague has the same dell model with windows 7 installed and is able to connect fine - I really don't want that @@@@ installed just to get WiFi. I know password entry error is the obvious solution but I connect new windows devices to it routinely and had other people try too.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I can't seem to get the wireless connection to function. Ubuntu either says that the card is turned off or if I toggle the wireless switch on my keyboard it then says 'device not ready.' I'm using a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, and it works fine when I boot in Windows 7.

This morning I installed Fedora 14 on my laptop. During the setup, I was able to configure the wireless connection and use it to install additional software from the FreshRPMs and Livna repos. When the install was completed, I was surprised to find the wireless not working. When I click on the NetworkManager icon at the bottom right corner, I see "Wireless Networks" Under that it says "device not ready" and it is greyed out so it cannot be click on.
Running lspci -vnn returned
07:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter [168c:001c] (rev 01)
Kernel driver in use: ath5k
Kernel modules: ath5k
Running lsmod confirmed that ath5k is in fact loaded.

I have a HP Elitebook 6930 with Intel 5300 wireless card and today I update it from Fedora11 to Fedora 12 and now I cannot connect with my home wireless network. Previously with F11 I connected without problems but now the wireless connection presents a "Device not ready" message. I tried to switch on/off the wireless card but without results. I had to set intel_iommu=off as kernel parameter to complete the boot. Is something related to it?

My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter. The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device? This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

In the past I've installed 9.10 using a hardwired network port for the web with the above card in the machine. After the install I got a notification of an update which downloaded the appropriate software for the above wireless card. Worked like a charm. Today I installed 11.04 and zilch. No wireless. Supposedly the firmware is missing. I guess my question is why is something that worked well in the past now missing?

after installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"
I have installed the driver for my wireless card but what is the firmware? I honestly don't know what it is although it's very basic. I have a Broadcom 43xx as my wireless card (specifically 4306). How do I get the firmware for it? Do I find it in Windows? Also I cannot get b43-fwcutter because I have absolutely to Internet connection on Ubuntu. To post this, I'm using Windows.
