but the wifi BCM4311 seem not working for me. In the hardware/additional drivers, i've the message that the proprearty driver is working and in use. But i cannot scan the network and no way to connect to my d-link via WPA-PSK (TKIP+AES)...
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 a a Dell D610 that is running a broadcom BMC943 internal wifi adapter. I've tried installing the wifi drivers off of Dell's website using the ndisgtk gui setup. It appears that whenever I setup the driver the OS can't apply it. It states that the wifi adapter is not on or installed. Here is what I get when I run iwconfig and lspci -n.
iwconfig:

eth0 no wireless extensions.

I've also edited the blacklist.conf file as well with no luck. I've spent 2 days trying to figure this out with no luck at all.

Anyway i have a dell latitiude d610 which am wanting to run Gos on currently i dual booting but keep finding myself going back to windows as I cant get my wireless working in gos any ideas please anyone
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm an experienced user in Windows but a complete novice in Linux. I have a dual boot with ubuntu and 7 ultimate, the thing is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wi-fi card. Windows Device Manager tells me that my card is "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Minicard" made by Broadcom. I don't know if my problem is with a driver or incompatible hardware, the ISO is perfect because I already installed linux on every computer in my house.

I did some searching here in the forums and found a bunch of posts, but all are from 2008 or earlier meaning that they are probably not for my version of Ubuntu - feel free to tell me that the steps are the same.
Anyway, I did a 'lspci' in Terminal and the important lines that appeared are:

So my system does recognized the wireless card, I just don't know how to get Ubuntu to find available networks. I tried adding in our network as a 'hidden' network - which it isn't and that didn't work, so I'm up for any suggestions in how to get the computer to connect to the wifi network?
I have a Dell Latitude D610 that was given to me and I currently have Ubuntu 10.04 installed. I am trying to get the internal microphone working for gchat.
If I go to System-->Preferences-->Sound-->Hardware it says: Choose a device to configure and Internal Audio, 1 Output/1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex is highlighted.
Settings for the selected device: Analog Stereo Duplex is selected on the dropdown menu.
When I select the Input tab: Input Volume is at 100% the box for Mute is unchecked Connector Analog Microphone/Microphone 1 is selected on the drop down menu for Connector and the device for sound input: Internal Audio Analog Stereo is selected.
How can I configure my microphone to work?
I cant seam to find out how to get my card to work i cant find out how to install the driver or finding the wifi card on the system.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I select the wifi icon on the panel, it just shows "No network devices available". I know my network can be found when I search with my iPhone, so I know there are networks to connect to. So, I checked the drivers, and it informs me that the B43 and STA drivers are not activated. So thats not a big deal, I guess, but when I use my ethernet cord, my laptop doesn't recognize/acknowledge (I'm not sure what the right term would be)it. I'm fairly sure I can't activate these drivers without an internet connection because when I do try, a message pops up saying "failed to fetch" with some long link.
My only guess is that it could be a hardware problem, but I really have no idea. I guess the ethernet problem is my only real problem. Because after I establish and internet connection the the rest is easy to fix.I'm sure its obvious, but I'll go ahead say that I'm a novice ubuntu user. I've only been working with it for about a week, but I'm learning alot.
I just installed ubuntu and I have no wifi connection. How would I download and intsall a copy from my Win XP boot?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.

I installed 10.04 on my Dell 1555 laptop using Wubi on windows 7. Initially I was able to enable wifi using the multimedia buttons on the keyboard. But not since last few reboots I have not been able to enable wifi. All the other multimedia buttons are working fine. After installing ubuntu I have installed Adobe flash 64 bit and Google Chrome.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm on a Dell Inspiron 6400 which had been running Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) perfectly.Today I upgraded it to Natty and the wifi now refuses to work. Details: While no Additional Drivers were needed on 10.10, upon installing Natty it prompted me to install "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver". Now when it's active I don't even have the option 'Enable Wireless' (only Enable Networking). If I disable STA the Enable Wireless option comes back, yet I can't actually search for wifi networks or connect to my saved one. The keyboard key to enable/disable wireless also does nothing.
I can take this laptop to somewhere with an ethernet connection for an afternoon if need be, but am currently stumped as to what to do. Obviously I know this machine can handle Wifi under Ubuntu - it's definitely a Natty problem.
I just did a fresh wipe and install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell D630 Latitude. I installed connected to the internet and ubuntu recognized I was missing firmware and I installed and rebooted. Now the "firmware missing" notice is gone but I don't know how to connect to my wifi. I can access internet with the ethernet cable.

I feel like I just need to add the wifi network, but I don't know what info to put into the fields.
I am dual booting with windows xp on a dell computer I recently acquired. I am running Ubuntu 10.10. The computer didn't have a wireless connection so I installed a wireless pci adapter from a company called ZONET. I installed it perfectly on windows xp, however, I cannot install the driver and the "Ralink Wireless LAN" on Ubuntu. I inserted the cd, and opened the setup.exe file with Wine Windows Program Loader (I have installed Wine 1.3 by following the instructions on http://www.winehq.org/download/deb and clicking on the link that says "click here".
I am currently temporarily connected to the internet by borrowing my main computers ethernet cable). I followed the instructions on the InstallShield Wizard only to have two windows pop up saying there is an error (see attached image).
I can connect to the internet through wifi, but I cannot connect to anything on my network. I have a printer and a NAS, so I would really like for this to work again. I have a dell laptop with a Broadcom card.

I've installed successfully the ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my DELL Latitude 430.Everything work out of the box except the wifi, I cannot find a way to get working.Using the lshw command, I can see that the interface is listed, but status is disabled.On the Network Manager, status I get is device not ready.As a FYI, bluetooth seems working perfect (I've not tried to pair with any device)as this is the only roadblock I face before enjoying Ubuntu on my laptop.

There's no hardware enable/disable that I can find.I have tried "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" to enable it, the light for the wifi antenna comes on, but still no luck.I know the wifi works in Ubuntu, because if i load windows first, then reset into Ubuntu, once in a while it works just fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell Mini 10v netbook, I love the little thing, except I hate the Broadcom wireless card, I would much rather have a card that can use open source drivers. I have been searching on Google, looking on forums and looking on the hardware sites, but I cannot find a replacement card.
The problem is the tiny Dell has a tiny place to put the card and according to Dell and Broadcom, it is a "halfcard", which I have no idea what that is.

ok basically i have a new dell inspiron n5010 with a broadcom 4313 wifi card. it doesnt work with ubuntu studio 10.10. I have the drivers all installed and it works on ethernet with the broadcom STA proprietry driver. if i disable this driver the eth doesnt work. but the driver shows its working (screenshot-1).
There is no pop up or anything in the task bar for detected wifi. i open the network settings and it shows up with a wifi option but i have to go into properties and manually type in what i have "the_den_meribel". which didn't work. (screenshot-2).
i have tried the other driver broadcom-sta-common and that doesnt make it work either. screenshot-3. i did try to install the "lp-pphhy" or whatever it is (seacrh for firmware-b43 in synaptic).

I just put 10.10 on my D830 and I love it except for a delay when I'm using the internet. When I click on a link while surfing the web it takes about 13 seconds before it responds. After that it works just fine.
My Windows 7 PC and my Macbook Pro don't do that so I'm guessing it has something to do with Ubuntu.
I just installed the 64-bit Kubuntu 11.04 and i've been having some issues getting the wifi to work. At first I went to additional drivers and activated the STA driver and restarted. After restarting when I went into the network manager and any option for wireless was disabled.

When I freshly installed my Ubuntu 10.04, broadcom wireless worked after I installed the driver using hardware manager. But somehow it got de-activated, and not its not working. I need help related to that. Here is some output which might help you to understand the problem.

I tried to find my solution for hours now but no luck. I'm a medical student and the other day I finally found the time to set up ubuntu for my first time. Everything was working great and I had wireless up and running. However, I tried to set up tethering to my iphone and after that my wireless hasn't been working (I've noticed no other problems). [URL]..Then I used this tutorial [URL].. However, after doing these steps the computer needed to reboot (I actually forget exactly where but I had to reboot in the middle of the second tutorial). After my computer restarted my wireless no longer showed up. By this I mean that wireless network no longer even showed up as an option when I left clicked then connections. However, I did not lose the wireless profile under network connections. So I went to system and noticed that the Broadcom STA driver was no longer active. So I tried to activate again and received this message.

My wifi adpater (built into HP laptop) is a intel wifi link 1000 series (b/g/n I think). Looking at some other resources it seems iwlwifi driver is the recommended driver for this card? however it is currently using iwlang. I am constantly experiencing dropped connections with my belkin g router and I am wondering if changing the wireless adapter driver might help, even if it doesn't what is the best driver for this card?
