Ubuntu :: Touchpad, Usb, Wireless Internet And Cable Internet Not Working?
Jul 13, 2011
I recently installed ubuntu on my mom's computer but I can't get the mouse to move trough the touch pad and I suspect the USB is not working either, because I can't get anything to work trough the USB, and the Internet is not working trough the cable, and I think wireless as well. Her computer is an old acer aspire 3000
I have installed Mint 8 on my HP Presario lap top. When booted up using XP I can connect to the internet wirelessly with no problem. But, when I boot up with Mint 8 I receive a msg that there is no connection to the internet. I then tried by hooking up to the router with a cable and it still shows "not connected to the internet" msg. I tried rebooting while hooked up with the cable and same result.
I have SUSE 11.0 set up to act as a router/firewall for my home network to the internet through a cable modem attached to an Ethernet card. When I was laid off several years back, I found information that let me connect my network to an ISP via a standard serial modem. I am considering going to the Sprint U1901 4G USB modem and dropping cable internet. Sprint claims the U1901 is Linux compatible. My thoughts are that using the 4G modem should be similar to the old dialup modem. I had a script that connected to the internet whenever internet traffic was detected. Unfortunately, I did not save notes on what I had done to setup the modem to dial automatically, and I have been unable to locate information that seems good to set this up again. I already know that all I had to do to get routing working was simply replace the internet port in the firewall/routing script with the port for the modem. So I assume that is rather trivial.
Would you please point me to a doc, perhaps SuSE specific, that gives reasonable directions on how to set up a "dial on demand" ISP connection? I assume that the 4G modem will be very similar to my old serial modem so that a dial on demand script will work. I did find a dial on demand howto, however, it did not seem to apply.
I have been using my laptop as a development machine for a few months now, developing php/mysql applications, and testing them offline via the same laptop by pointing the browser to url.
But a few days ago, my url stopped working and I discovered that it will now only work if I have an active internet connection plugged in. Why has this happened and how to I fix my test server so localhost works with or without an internet connection via an ethernet cable.
Just today I installed opensuse 11.3 on my Compaq CQ61. Even though I am able to connect to networks (both with an ethernet cable and wireless) I don't have internet access. I have used opensuse for a very brief period in the past and I had no such problem.
Now, lets make this clear: I am a COMPLETE linux noob. I only installed ubuntu today (dual booting with Windows 7). The thing is, my wireless is working perfectly in windows. However, I can't get it to work in Ubuntu. It detects my internet, but refuses to connect. I'm 100% sure that I have used the right password.I have an Atheros AR5007 wifi adapter. I'm liking the look of Ubuntu, but if I can't solve this it's pretty much useless to me.
I have been looking around and it seems that having a wireless USB network to connect to the internet is difficult on Ubuntu.
All I know is that it seems that my wireless linksys network card is a WUSB600N Anyone that has any commands they want me to put in my terminal I can tell you but from other forums I try to put many in and get no output simply because I believe I do not have the drivers but do not fully know how to even install these drivers in the terminal or am not doing something right.
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
just now installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Lenovo Thinkpad X41 it did connect to the wireless internet at the time of installation but failed to connect after the installation was complete and i restarted the computer. It keeps on asking me the Key but for some reason doesn't take it. I have Intel PRO/wireless 2915 ABG network card.
I installed Ubuntu 10.4, eveyrhing works fine but the internet. I was wondering if anyone knew how to troubleshoot this? My card is an intel 82577LC Gigabite Network Connection. I was able to find a driver, I think, not sure at this link ... The problem is I dont know how to install it after I download it, to see if it works.
my wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.
I recently installed Ubuntu. I just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI card drivers
I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to. But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected". It's not like I have a bad connection or anything. My internet on Windows is fast.
I'm using a WUSB54GC network adapter to connect to my home wireless network. My network was not visible, so I added it and it shows connected, but when I launch the browser, I can't get a connection. I'm using Ubuntu 10.4. All other computers on the network connect fine and I disabled my firewall to see if that made a difference.
I'm running Windows 7 and Xubuntu 10.10 on a dell pc. My wireless works fine when I run windows 7, but on Xubuntu, the wireless doesn't even come as an option. When I try to plug in the wired connection, it loads for about a minute then tells me I'm disconnect. The option for the wired connection is there, but when I try to click it, the same thing happens. What do I do?

I just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525. Wireless internet is not working. I installed wicd network manager and I am able to see the available wireless networks. My wireless connection is encrypted. I have tried all encrypted options with the key but no avail. It says "Cannot obtain an IP address" after validating authentication.
I'm having trouble connecting to the internet... I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on a PC with Windows XP installed. When I click the little network icon at the top there's an option called "auto eth1" but when I click it, it just says "Wired Connection: Disconnected - you are now offline."
I just built my first pc, installed ubuntu 9.10 and tried connecting to the net through my ethernet cable and all that happens is it says cannot find server. Do I need to install network settings & if so what & where,or should it automatically detect them? As this is my first build I am a novice but am willing to listen & learn.
I installed ubuntu 10.04 today after vista for dual boot. my internet is working fine (wired/wireless) in vista but in ubuntu only wired internet is working and wireless its not working... also when i try install ndiswrapper using sudo command (sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils), i get an error message sudo: apt: command not find.I am using dell inspiron laptop and below is the output for the command
I am using a hp pavilion zd7000, computer says firmware is missing for wireless controller. i also have a wirless g notebook card made by belkin which will scan for networks but wont connect to them for some unknown reason. if i can get either the wireless g card to work or the built in wireless to work thata be great. I am well experienced in windows but very new to linux and how everything works.
Im having problems with Ubuntu 10.04. My wireless disconnects frequently and firefox seems to stop working. it seems the connection times out sometimes when firefox stops. other times the connection just disconnects. When I was running 9.04 everything worked and nothing disconnected, so I know its not my computer.
My laptop is an IBM t40, 1.4 ghz, 2gig of ram.It does not seem to mater if Im using the wireless or the wired connection. The problem happens either way.does anyone have a solution for this?
When I open my browser in windows vista (I have a duel-boot system), my browser (Firefox) automatically goes to this page, and I log in, and am able to then use the Internet.
Ubuntu also searches for this 10.196.128.11 server, but it continually states "waiting for server to respond". I have checked all the settings I could find in windows and compared them to the ones in ubuntu, and they seem to be identical to me. I am using firefox in ubuntu too so I cannot understand the problem.
I am using Ubuntu Server version 10.4, and am trying to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. This may and probably is incredibly simple, however, I could not find anything that pertains to it.
Recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on laptop - new partition. Have PC running XP with internet connection. I have a satellite connect from Germany. I live in Turkmenistan.I know all IP addresses, subnet mask, Default gateway, etc. Can someone help configure internet on laptop w/Ubuntu? I am not the fastest ball down the alley but I shouldn't have too much problem with the terminal. Just be gentle. I just completed a pppoeconf search and was informed something or another couldn't be found. It's a little frustrating because I need to disconnect internet cable from PC and connect to Laptop. let me add that I do not have an internet user name or password "supplied by ISP". But I hooked up connection OK on XP.
I've installed opensuse 11.2 on an old IBM thinkpad. The install went without a hitch and when I got to the desktop I inserted my Dlink DWL-G132 wireless USB adapter. Opensuse immediately recognised that a wireless device was attached and I could see my wireless network listed. I entered my WPA password and was able to connect to my routers configuration page by entering 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar of firefox. For some reason I am unable to navigate to any webpage. When I enter a URL firefox acts as though there is no internet connection. The only way I can get the internet on my laptop is to connect it to my router with a cable. I used a wired connection and ran the update utility thinking that perhaps an update would fix the issue but it did not. I know the adapter works because the laptop used to have windows xp installed and I could connect fine with that.
Does anyone here have any idea why I would be able to connect wirelessly to the routers configuration page but not to the internet? I appreciate any advice anyone may have.
