I recently installed ubuntu on my mom's computer but I can't get the mouse to move trough the touch pad and I suspect the USB is not working either, because I can't get anything to work trough the USB, and the Internet is not working trough the cable, and I think wireless as well. View 2 RepliesI am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
I have installed Mint 8 on my HP Presario lap top. When booted up using XP I can connect to the internet wirelessly with no problem. But, when I boot up with Mint 8 I receive a msg that there is no connection to the internet. I then tried by hooking up to the router with a cable and it still shows "not connected to the internet" msg. I tried rebooting while hooked up with the cable and same result.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have SUSE 11.0 set up to act as a router/firewall for my home network to the internet through a cable modem attached to an Ethernet card. When I was laid off several years back, I found information that let me connect my network to an ISP via a standard serial modem. I am considering going to the Sprint U1901 4G USB modem and dropping cable internet. Sprint claims the U1901 is Linux compatible. My thoughts are that using the 4G modem should be similar to the old dialup modem. I had a script that connected to the internet whenever internet traffic was detected. Unfortunately, I did not save notes on what I had done to setup the modem to dial automatically, and I have been unable to locate information that seems good to set this up again. I already know that all I had to do to get routing working was simply replace the internet port in the firewall/routing script with the port for the modem. So I assume that is rather trivial.
Would you please point me to a doc, perhaps SuSE specific, that gives reasonable directions on how to set up a "dial on demand" ISP connection? I assume that the 4G modem will be very similar to my old serial modem so that a dial on demand script will work. I did find a dial on demand howto, however, it did not seem to apply.
i'm having problems connecting to the internet unless i manually enter the IP info.
automatic DHCP does not work. I'm on a dual boot machine vista/ubuntu 10.04 LTS connecting to the internet through a lynksys wireless g router and a cable modem.
I have been using my laptop as a development machine for a few months now, developing php/mysql applications, and testing them offline via the same laptop by pointing the browser to url.
But a few days ago, my url stopped working and I discovered that it will now only work if I have an active internet connection plugged in. Why has this happened and how to I fix my test server so localhost works with or without an internet connection via an ethernet cable.
Just today I installed opensuse 11.3 on my Compaq CQ61. Even though I am able to connect to networks (both with an ethernet cable and wireless) I don't have internet access. I have used opensuse for a very brief period in the past and I had no such problem.

The thing is, my wireless is working perfectly in windows. However, I can't get it to work in Ubuntu. It detects my internet, but refuses to connect. I'm 100% sure that I have used the right password.I have an Atheros AR5007 wifi adapter. I'm liking the look of Ubuntu, but if I can't solve this it's pretty much useless to me.

All I know is that it seems that my wireless linksys network card is a WUSB600N Anyone that has any commands they want me to put in my terminal I can tell you but from other forums I try to put many in and get no output simply because I believe I do not have the drivers but do not fully know how to even install these drivers in the terminal or am not doing something right.
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.

I'm using a WUSB54GC network adapter to connect to my home wireless network. My network was not visible, so I added it and it shows connected, but when I launch the browser, I can't get a connection. I'm using Ubuntu 10.4. All other computers on the network connect fine and I disabled my firewall to see if that made a difference.

I installed wicd network manager and I am able to see the available wireless networks. My wireless connection is encrypted. I have tried all encrypted options with the key but no avail. It says "Cannot obtain an IP address" after validating authentication.

My wireless disconnects frequently and firefox seems to stop working. it seems the connection times out sometimes when firefox stops. other times the connection just disconnects. When I was running 9.04 everything worked and nothing disconnected, so I know its not my computer.

I connect to the Internet through an Ethernet cable. My university (Tuebingen, Germany) provides the Internet through this server:

When I open my browser in windows vista (I have a duel-boot system), my browser (Firefox) automatically goes to this page, and I log in, and am able to then use the Internet.
Ubuntu also searches for this 10.196.128.11 server, but it continually states "waiting for server to respond". I have checked all the settings I could find in windows and compared them to the ones in ubuntu, and they seem to be identical to me. I am using firefox in ubuntu too so I cannot understand the problem.
I am using Ubuntu Server version 10.4, and am trying to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. This may and probably is incredibly simple, however, I could not find anything that pertains to it.

I live in Turkmenistan.I know all IP addresses, subnet mask, Default gateway, etc. Can someone help configure internet on laptop w/Ubuntu? I am not the fastest ball down the alley but I shouldn't have too much problem with the terminal. Just be gentle. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed opensuse 11.2 on an old IBM thinkpad. The install went without a hitch and when I got to the desktop I inserted my Dlink DWL-G132 wireless USB adapter. Opensuse immediately recognised that a wireless device was attached and I could see my wireless network listed. I entered my WPA password and was able to connect to my routers configuration page by entering 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar of firefox. For some reason I am unable to navigate to any webpage. When I enter a URL firefox acts as though there is no internet connection. The only way I can get the internet on my laptop is to connect it to my router with a cable. I used a wired connection and ran the update utility thinking that perhaps an update would fix the issue but it did not. I know the adapter works because the laptop used to have windows xp installed and I could connect fine with that.
Does anyone here have any idea why I would be able to connect wirelessly to the routers configuration page but not to the internet? I appreciate any advice anyone may have.
