Ubuntu Networking :: Enabling Non-internet LAN Makes Internet Over Wireless Stop Working
Sep 1, 2010
I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
my wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.
Useing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
I recently installed ubuntu on my mom's computer but I can't get the mouse to move trough the touch pad and I suspect the USB is not working either, because I can't get anything to work trough the USB, and the Internet is not working trough the cable, and I think wireless as well. Her computer is an old acer aspire 3000
just now installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Lenovo Thinkpad X41 it did connect to the wireless internet at the time of installation but failed to connect after the installation was complete and i restarted the computer. It keeps on asking me the Key but for some reason doesn't take it. I have Intel PRO/wireless 2915 ABG network card.
I installed Ubuntu 10.4, eveyrhing works fine but the internet. I was wondering if anyone knew how to troubleshoot this? My card is an intel 82577LC Gigabite Network Connection. I was able to find a driver, I think, not sure at this link [URL]... The problem is I dont know how to install it after I download it, to see if it works.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook remix on a Toshiba NB505.My wireless internet is not working.I can connect fine wired, but it doesn't even give me any kind of option for wireless
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
I recently installed Ubuntu. I just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]card [COLOR=blue ! important]drivers[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR]
I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to. But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected". It's not like I have a bad connection or anything. My internet on Windows is fast.
I'm using a WUSB54GC network adapter to connect to my home wireless network. My network was not visible, so I added it and it shows connected, but when I launch the browser, I can't get a connection. I'm using Ubuntu 10.4. All other computers on the network connect fine and I disabled my firewall to see if that made a difference.
I'm running Windows 7 and Xubuntu 10.10 on a dell pc. My wireless works fine when I run windows 7, but on Xubuntu, the wireless doesn't even come as an option. When I try to plug in the wired connection, it loads for about a minute then tells me I'm disconnect. The option for the wired connection is there, but when I try to click it, the same thing happens. What do I do?
I have a Wi-Fi connection in my home. There is a telephone through which a wire comes out, when I connect that wire with my laptop I can connect to the Internet.
Now I want to connect to the net without that wire.
Code: linux-dpjj:/home/anisha # ping www.google.com ping: unknown host www.google.com Well, I followed this link:
I am using a hp pavilion zd7000, computer says firmware is missing for wireless controller. i also have a wirless g notebook card made by belkin which will scan for networks but wont connect to them for some unknown reason. if i can get either the wireless g card to work or the built in wireless to work thata be great. I am well experienced in windows but very new to linux and how everything works.
I've decided I want to cross over to Ubuntu from Win vista but there's one thing i cant get working. My wireless card. My wireless card is a Xterasys xn 2523g I can't make this switch until i have the internet working.
running ubuntu 10.10 on a toshiba laptop recently the wireless Internet stopped working from our netgear router, it still works for the Ienova laptop and emachines desktop using the router but this laptop will not work wirelessly internet cuts in and out on this laptop when on wireless when it didn't previously do so it reads a connection but will not load up web pages unless hard wired in with an ethernet cord.
I have a 6 month old Acer (sorry not Asus as per the heading) Aspire laptop. I downloaded Ubuntu and cannot connect via wireless. It works fine via ethernet. Having spent several hour reading this forum, other web pages and the help file, I actually still have not got a clue either as to what the actual problem is or how to begin solving it. Is there a simple answer? If not, I'll go back to windows 7 as Ubuntu seems anything but the promises made.
I'm running puppy linux and my wireless works for about 10 minutes before crapping out. Then I tried going thru the internet wizard again and it won't detect my wireless connection. All my other machines are using this connection at the same time with no problem. The situation is temporarily resolved when i reboot.
I was trying out the fedora live cd but I couldn't get my Internet to work. When I open firefox it always said server not kind no matter what I searched or put into the address bar:
I tried many different things but none o them worked I am able to ping m router an I'm able to login to my routers page I am also able to login to my modems page and it says connected to the Internet I tried restarting the modem and the router but I still got the same problem I also tried disabling the firewall but still had the same problem I tried a command and I was able to receive packets from google.com, but It never went through in firefox I also tried out a torrent (I had it saved on a USB) and it worked it was downloading fine I am able to ping googles web page but I am not able to search anything.
In firefox preferences and in network proxy I tried many different proxy settings bit none o them worked I always get the message server not found. All this was done while connected directly with Ethernet cable modem and router but untried wireless and it didn't work either on the top right corner of the screen the network icon says auto eth0 active. I'm using fedora 12 livecd.
I just installed Fedora 13 on my old compaq presario with a DLINK DWL-122 usb adapter. Both lights are on as if it were working, but network manager isn't auto connecting.
I just upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15 and am having problems getting my wireless internet to work. I never had it working in Fedora 14 as it told me "firmware was missing." I have tried many different approaches described online and non have seemed to help me. I have an HP dv6700 laptop with a Broadcom "Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)" chipset. I have installed the Broadcom-wl set from yum as well.
I am using squid in my Linux box. I want to allow my office staff that they may use internet from Monday to Friday. The IP range that they are using is 192.168.1.20. to 192.168.1.50 In /etc/squid/squid.conf file under acl tag
Code:
acl weekend time A S 00:00-23:59 acl myoffice src 192.168.1.20 192.168.1.50/24 http_access deny myoffice
is it correct or I have to add some things more to stop internet access only on Saturday and Sunday.
I have installed the wifidrivers needed to use the wifi on the 1018 in Ubuntu Netbook Edition. It works until I get asked to install 5 (Sorry, don't remember their name) more updates, now I can not see Wireless networks under the networkmanager, It does not help installing the driver again, and I can not remove it either. It says the driver is activated but not in use. Also note that in desktop mode I lost my other workspaces, I can not change what window is on top and the quit, minimize and full window on windows is not there anymore.
I have a bit of a "unique" situation here. I have myself plugged into two networks - since we run two networks here at work (long story, we merged and never combined them due to two different companies) and want to block ALL internet access off eth1, and only have it off eth0. I only want traffic from 192.168.67.1-192.168.67.255 allowed on eth1, but everything allowed on eth0. Or is there a way for the internet/applications to be on eth0 instead of eth1? Would I use iptables or something?
I am running Ubuntu 10.10, and I would like to use my computer to share the internet connection from an ethernet port. For example, I would like to set up my computer as a wireless access point so I can create a network that other computers can connect to for internet.
I am using squid in my Linux box. I want to allow my office staff that they may use internet from Monday to Friday. The IP range that they are using is 192.168.1.20. to 192.168.1.50n /etc/squid/squid.conf file under acl tagPHP Code:

Now, lets make this clear: I am a COMPLETE linux noob. I only installed ubuntu today (dual booting with Windows 7). The thing is, my wireless is working perfectly in windows. However, I can't get it to work in Ubuntu. It detects my internet, but refuses to connect. I'm 100% sure that I have used the right password.I have an Atheros AR5007 wifi adapter. I'm liking the look of Ubuntu, but if I can't solve this it's pretty much useless to me.
I have been looking around and it seems that having a wireless USB network to connect to the internet is difficult on Ubuntu.
All I know is that it seems that my wireless linksys network card is a WUSB600N Anyone that has any commands they want me to put in my terminal I can tell you but from other forums I try to put many in and get no output simply because I believe I do not have the drivers but do not fully know how to even install these drivers in the terminal or am not doing something right.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my computer and can get the wireless internet working im using a wusb600n. Any pointers I have been looking all over for over a week.
I just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI card drivers.I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to.But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected".What could be the problem? It's not like I have a bad connection or anything
