Ubuntu Multimedia :: Save A Video From Firefox Page Cache?
Oct 17, 2010
while i realize it's certainly taboo to download a lot of videos videos and similar without permission, and possibly illegal in some countries due to copyright, i have also been reading that the video is clearly buffered in the page casche, so technically is stored on your machine already, but is only stored in ram. how can i save it from my firefox page casche? some mitigating info is that i have poor web speeds, and an old machine, which is not using all of the 1gig of ram for some reason.

I have a weird problem with Firefox with the following scenario: When I view a picture from a website in the browser and the pictures gets deleted from the server (while I'm viewing it) - I can't save the picture to my hard drive. Firefox always tries to download the picture from the web-server although it's in the cache. Resulting in an image file which contains the HTTP 404 response from the server. *lol*

I am using firefox 3.6.18 in Ubuntu 10.04. My problem is that if I try to save some webpage in postscript or pdf format, I go to file>print>print-to-file option and choose output file as ps or pdf format. Now if I click to print, I do get the corresponding page saved in ps/pdf format but only the first page is printed(i.e., saved in ps/pdf format) this way, leaving major portion(may be eight pages for example) of the corresponding webpage unsaved. (the option: range of printing: all pages is chosen by default.) Why is this happening and what should I do to print the entire page? (one example is the following page which you may try to save in the way I described above: [url]

What follows is actually a copy of my yesterday post on users mailing list, which so far had no response at all. I hope I'll have more luck here.I have 3 PCs running Hardy, Karmic, and Fedora 12, with Firefox on each of them: v. 3.0.18 on Hardy and v. 3.5.8 on both Karmic and Fedora.I created "shared" profile on each system and synchronize them using Unison. Ubuntu 8.04 is a base system for synchronization. The synchronization itself works just fine on all 3 systems. No functionality problems on either of Ubuntu's.In Fedora however I'm having a problem. While using "shared" profile I can save neither a web page nor a download (unless I use some of add-on' as described below).
If either Save Page As... or Save Link As... menu items are selected the requests are simply ignored with no response from FF. However using Download Them All add-on does the job. Equally Scrapbook add-on allows me to save/capture pages.
The default profile works as expected. I thought SELinux is on the way but disabling it (for a test sake) did not changed things. All permissions in "shared" profile directory to me look OK.I'm new to Fedora and cannot figure it out myself, need you help, folks.

Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit.I am almost certainly using the wrong term here, but if I knew for sure what I was looking for I probably would have managed to google it.In a fit of minor insanity, I used ffmpeg to convert all my video files I've impulse downloaded over the last decade or so to mp4, mostly because Easytag will happily tag them an assist in reorganizing them, but of course some videos didn't convert, either properly or at all due to issues with the original file.
But - every 108 -123 (Going by the filecount in my trash when it happens; I've wondered if the actual number is 127 or 128 but haven't gotten that definitive yet.) videos or so, totem dies, and so does every other video player I can use, VLC, mplayer, et al. For awhile I rebooted, then I figured out just logging out/in cleared the error, but I've yet to narrow down what exactly is causing it.Since it crosses all players I can only assume that there is some kind of cache that is getting filled up that is cleared when you logout, but after doing some digging it's nothing cleared by anything I've found like bitbleach.

It's not working no matter what webpage I view. Windows works just fine. Try "save page as" on this typical page.

On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

I'm an excited newcomer in ubuntu and i'm also an animator. and i have problem playing all streaming video from this particular website (the 11 second club), probably they use quicktime plugin or something. In addition, we can play the stream frame by frame so we can check the animation more details on poses.
could you guys help me out with this...? this website is an important learning centre for me, and definitely for many animators out there who use ubuntu.
here's an example:

i've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

I am aware of the multitude of firefox addons there are, but they are not really what I am looking for. I am also aware that I can just recover the temp files from my hard drive, that is not what I am looking for either. I was wondering if you guys knew of any actual software for linux that does the job, something like orbit downloader. The reason being is that orbit allowed multiple http connections at once, making for much faster downloads, much more efficient on system resources that browser addons. It was also in a neat little menu.

I am using Firefox 5.0 with Ubuntu Lucid x64 and I have no audio with Flash video. Audio works just fine on other applications so I'm guessing this might be a permission's issue or setting of some sort? I also have: flashplugin-installer 11.0.1.60~110713-ppa0~lucid & flashplugin-nonfree 11.0.1.60~110713-ppa0~lucid installed with ALSA v1.0.24.2.

I'm using the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop 64-bit distribution. Hardware is the Dell Vostro 1015; laptop with Intel (g)45 express chipset with Intel x4500MHD graphics accelerator. Celeron 900 2.2ghz single core, 1GB RAM.
The issue is I have smooth scrolling enabled in Firefox. And whenever I scroll the page, it's very choppy/laggish/not smooth at all. When I go on ..... to watch a video, any slight scrolling will cause it to flicker like crazy. The effect reminds me of when I run Windows without installing drivers for the video card.
Now I wanted to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue, so I installed Windows7 and did the exact same thing. Everything runs smoothly, I can smooth scroll no problem, and video playbacks without any flickers whatsoever. It is a lower end laptop, which is basically for the occasional ..... and web browsing.
I will try the 32 bit edition in the meantime to see if it helps. I was under the impression that 32bit limits your maximum ram to just under 4GB. (I planned to upgrade the laptop a bit)

Opening any flash video with the flash player plugin cause my CPU to go to 100% (even more but I assume that's just top reporting dual core or something. I want to watch ..... and stuff without burning up my CPU so I need to fix this.
A simple "locate -i *flash*.so" gives this:
Code:
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/iceape/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/kde4/kipiplugin_flashexport.so
/usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/morph/morph_flash.so
/usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/program/libflashli.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so
Although I did install the package flashplugin-nonfree, in debian that I'm a little more used to flashplugin-nonfree provided libflashplayer.so and not flashplugin-alternative.so which seem to be the one all my browsers are using. However about plugins in firefox says very little except "application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash". Can I just replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so and maybe make some links or something or would that be bad?
The process using my CPU is reported as plugin-containe but it only happens with flash video and not any other plugins. If the video is playing, paused or stopped/not started makes no difference. I did replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so, it didn't help. Seems firefox was using that plugin all along, presumably from here "/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/". I can't imagine I'm the only one who wants a fix for this here, there should be hordes. I use the latest kbuntu, flash player, firefox and kernel all from the repo.
