Fedora :: Npviewer Segfaults - Firefox Sometimes Shows The Title Of A Page In A Tab But The Page Is Blank

Nov 23, 2009

On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

Ubuntu :: 9.10 Alternate CD File Sizes Vary?

Apr 26, 2010

I'm downloading the iso images for 9.10 Alternate CD. As the desktop does not work, graphical. For whatever reason even once it starts to boot live (With no direct install) it says in the "boot terminal" (non-graphical, full screen) as I call it "Authentication Failure even bEFORE the actual program is loaded. Asks me for username / password which does not exist, etc. I'm sick of windows. I used Ubuntu for about a week and fell in love.

Windows is poppy-cosh, compared to the speed, performance, customization, updates, few errors and bugs, everything is superb! I already converted my fiance and best friend to using the OS in Dual-Boot I'll be an avid supporter and do even more using my media company to help promote xD What's the point? Wine allows me to use all the programs I need that require windows, regardless.. You have converted me. "If you build it, they will come." Amazing job.

I tried re-installing windows and to no-evail for whatever reason screwed up my entire re-installation of Ubuntu. Instead of saying Owner it says Administrator for the new install. Here's my list:

1.) I need to completely wipe out all partitions and start over with a "fresh" HDD. Any ideas how to do so without an OS? It was suggested on wiki answers to use BootDisk.com

2.) I have the torrent downloading which is 689.6MB [URL] and the normal ISO which is 690MB [URL] from two different Ubuntu.com pages...Which do I use? Why are they two different file sizes? I assume the larger file size is the best to use. This has happened when downloading the Desktop CD as well. The lesser file never worked properly. Do you guys have incomplete files on the server or something or perhaps just my hardware?

3.) Use alternate installer to have Ubuntu as the ONLY OS. Alternate Option: Put Ubuntu alternate cd installer onto my external HDD by Seagate and boot up to it, then install ubuntu...

Applications :: Printing Support (line Numbers - Syntax Highlighting - Multiple Columns Per Page - Customizable Fonts And Sizes) Not Available

Jun 17, 2010

I've been looking though different editors for one that has good printing support. Ideally it should be able to print C++ code with line numbers, syntax highlighting, multiple columns per page, customizable fonts and sizes and a print preview feature so that I can make sure it looks right before sending it to the printer. It appears that notepad++ had at least some of these features, but it is not available on linux. The best I could do so far is to copy/paste the output of 'cat -n foo.cpp' into oowriter and format it into two colums. I don't get synax highlighting though and I have to manually replace tabs with a few spaces as well as some excessive leading spaces before the line numbering.

Fedora Servers :: Copied The Web Page Files To Its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled The Default Web Page?

So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation

When I open 'firefox' from the app panel at the top of the screen, it opens on the last web site visited.

I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.

Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?

Ubuntu :: Firefox - Cannot Interact After Loading Page?

Apr 15, 2010

When I start firefox the home google page will load and all is well. When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.

I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I reinstalled firefox and went back to firefox 3.5 without any success. This makes me think that the problem is something other than firefox.I am on a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5965 running ubuntu 9.10. I'd give you more information but when I click on system and go down to "About Ubuntu" it loads forever - this is another problem I need to fix. Ugh. I should never have updated

Fedora :: Xsane Page Size Setting - Cannot Find A Page Size Anywhere In Any Of The Buttons

Jun 5, 2010

I have a Canoscan LiDE 30 scanner which works fine in Linux. I haven't used it in months, and never since moving from Jaunty x86_64 to Fedora 11 x86_64. This evening I suddenly need to scan two pages to send to someone via e-mail, and the recipient is desperate to receive them. Naturally, Xsane has decided this is the moment to screw me.

The problem: I cannot figure out how to tell Xsane that the page size is 8.5 11. It insists on scanning only the left side, 3.99 x 11. I cannot find a page size anywhere in any of the buttons.

In Preview I once got it to scan the entire page, but could not figure out how to save the image to file. Subsequently I have not been able to figure out how I did it. In any event, scanning from the small main window always scans 3.99 x 11. Adjusting the scan area manually in the Preview window allows me to change the size area in the small main window to 8.5 x 11, but when I then scan from the small main window it reverts to 3.99 x 11.

I have scanned the document a hundred times at least, each time trying different buttons, but nothing has succeeded in getting the full page.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make surethat Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Ubuntu :: Firefox 3.6 Speed - Forcing To Refresh The Page ?

May 3, 2010

I am impressed with the visuals of both Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6, but unfortunately I've been experiencing a very annoying issue since my install of 10.04 two days ago.

When I begin a Firefox session (using profile manager, in case it might have any relevance to the issue) it moves at lightning speed for the first five or so pages. Then, if I try a website it will time out (I have tried various pages, so it is not a page-specific issue) forcing me to refresh the page, wait roughly ten seconds, and finally be back on the initial page.

I am too lazy to re-list my PC stats, but they can be found in my signature. I am running on a household network, with the average connection speed ranging from from 40-80%.

The only other Ubuntu release I have used is Jaunty, where Firefox 3.0 (was it really 3.0 back then?) worked perfectly.

I have installed Google Chrome as well, and it seems to have the same relative issue, but it manages to recover from the timeouts quickly.

My only thought is perhaps it is an internal Internet setting that is disturbing the browser(s), potentially a default setting that has been modified since 9.04?

Ubuntu :: Firefox - When Open Up A New Web Page It Does Not Automatically Allow To Scroll

May 31, 2010

After installing a bunch of new updates with the update manager a few problems have popped up regarding the scrolling in firefox with the arrow keys. The first problem is that when I open up a new web page it does not automatically allow me to scroll. I have to first click the web page and then are the arrow keys enabled. The second problem that I have is that when I press the down arrow key to scroll down in the beginning it jumps down to the end of the page. The third and final problem is how it scrolls. For some reason a site in firefox acts like a word document. Instead of be the arrow keys controlling the scroll bar it controlls the little I symbol you see when typing.

It is amazing how annoying it can be when you can't scroll with the arrow keys. If nobody knows how to then I will probably just reinstall firefox. I have also just figured out that page up and down also do not work.

Fedora :: Firefox Very Slow Page Loading

May 5, 2010

With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.

I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.

I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.

Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.

OpenSUSE :: Fix For Firefox Acting Slow On Page Look Ups?

Mar 25, 2011

On my system Firefox 4 seemed to be taking its sweet time "looking up" addresses, but when it found the page it blazed on the render. I poked around on the net and found a few suggestions to speed up the "look up". So I thought I would share... I aimed for the fewest changes, so not to break too many things or make a big mess. (Warning moving and changing things that you don't know about, in the about:config can goof up Firefox so double check your settings) place about:config in the address bar and hit enter

You should get a really long list of things

In the search bar put
network.dns.disableIPv6

My default value was set to false, go ahead and set it to true. Right click and Toggle. Clear out the search bar where network.dns.disableIPv6 was, and put in network.http.pipelining You should have three listings Right click on network.http.pipelining and Toggle so "true" shows for the value. Next, right click on network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and Modify, a box will pop up, replace the default 4 with 8. Close the about:config

Now test your Forefox performance. These three small changes, made a world of difference for me. Its now comparably fast as chromium. If you disagree with what I did, or want to let me know of any other "safe" speedups let me know. PS. If you don't see any improvements performance-wise or your from the future and do use IPv6, it would be best to go and take these settings back to the default Firefox settings.
