Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pipe A Video Feed From Virtual Box To Vlc And Save It As A File?
Aug 9, 2011
is there a way to pipe a video feed from virtual box to vlc and save it as a file? cause if i could then i could save streaming videos from places like hulu and netflix or save bluray movies to a avi file for latter use.
I'm using Ubuntu 64bit 10.04 with FireFox and every video I've tried online has worked except the bp.com's oil gusher video streams. Does any one know what plugins to install to make this work?
I just installed RSS feed reader application Liferea as it said the best in GNOME linux. But the problem is that i can't see any ..... or flash videos in that, though it presents in website. It just left space instead of video. At-least it is not directing me to ...... If i see any large space i am going to website to watch the video. Its quit a bit difficult.
I would like to save a broadcast video with mplayer but I want do it while they are seeing, I mean, I want see them in real time, but also recording them and see them when I want I've actually got with audio files with:
Code: mplayer http://whatever/audio -ao pcm:file=/home/user/audio.mp3 It works perfectly, I listen to the audio file from the radio I connected and save the file. But I can't with video, I tried: Code: mplayer http://whatever/video -vo x11 -ao pcm:file=/home/user/video.mp4
while i realize it's certainly taboo to download a lot of videos videos and similar without permission, and possibly illegal in some countries due to copyright, i have also been reading that the video is clearly buffered in the page casche, so technically is stored on your machine already, but is only stored in ram. how can i save it from my firefox page casche? some mitigating info is that i have poor web speeds, and an old machine, which is not using all of the 1gig of ram for some reason.
Trying to stream a live video feed from Rock am Ring which is available via the German SWR3 TV website. Trouble is, I am in the UK and it seems to only be avaialable to German IP addresses. Have tried various German web proxies, but to no avail. I suspect the service provider knows about them all and is stopping them also. Getting the error from the server, Server Error The connection to the streaming server has been disconnected. Any networking gurus out there who may know a way around this.
i just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace. ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
I use webcam with the streamer application. So, to record a video I have to put in terminal something like this: Code: streamer -q -c /dev/video0 -f rgb24 -r 24 -t 00:30:00 -o /home/shark/untitled.avi I know I can use other applications but I have got problems with all except with this. This is really annoying because it is a delay job. So, I am wondering how can I make a script that the terminal will ask me to name the file or even better to ask where to put my file.
Have been having some problems with Libreoffice Writer crashing every time I try to save a file that contains any kind of multimedia (usually images) so I decided to completely remove the app and any trace of it and start again.
After complete removal I reinstalled from the Opensuse repo 3.3.1
The porblem I have now is that when I start typing in writer absolutely nothing happens. Wait approximately one minute and the text I typed appears. Try to backspac to delete or type some more and the behaviour persists.
When subscribing to new feed, rhythmbox downloads new episodes as it should. when restarting rhythmbox, the program does not download new episodes any more. only thing that works is deleting feed and re-installing.In Launchpad this is known as Bug #377189 There is also written that:"This bug was fixed in the package rhythmbox - 0.12.7-0ubuntu8"nksHow to Get and Install this Package?
I have three different webcams. All Logitech. Two are "cheapo" ones, and one is a more expensive, HD one. I'm running the stock Maverick desktop install, with no specifical extras for the video or the like. I plug in the webcam (doesn't matter which one I use) and it is picked up and can be used. Not a problem, but when I view the feed, the its laggy and choppy. If I plug in the cam onto my Windows XP or Window 7 installs (on the same laptop), the feed is smooth and has no issues. So I figure it has to be something to do with my settings or configurations. Problem is, I can't seem to find out what I need to tweak to smoothen or improve the feed. I've tried reducing the resolution of the feed to the minimum, but that hasn't helped.
Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. If I film myself typing at my laptop keyboard, I can see my hands move around the keyboard when I view the footage in Windows, but when I film it in Ubuntu, it's very jumpy, and my hands seem to jump about all over the keyboard -- almost as if something can't keep up.
I've written a simple server in linux used fork to create a FIFO pipe. The server create two FIFO pipe. One for server read data from client and write data to client. Then another pipe for client read data from server and write data to server. When the server read data from a client used server-pipe and then write data to client. But ,if the client no read open the pipe, the server side write will be crashed because of a broken-pipe SIGPIPE. How to check whether the read side is opened?Or,how to catch the SIGPIPE,and then my server will still execute on,not crashed!!
My webcam works. It works in Cheese and apparently the person I connect with on skype can see my feed. They claim their webcam works fine, but I can't get their feed: instead, I just get a white box. When I try to test my own webcam, I get a similar white box. I think there's something wrong with the way skype is configured on my laptop, but I can't figure it out.
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on an acer laptop with an acer crystal eye webcam. I installed skype by downloading the binary directly from the website.
I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.
I have a Gateway NV53 with a built in webcam. Now my issue is, it DOES work, but is there a program or software available that would allow me to edit the live graphical feed of the camera? For example, on Windows the webcam software allows me to edit the saturation, contrast, brightness, etc the levels of it while I'm giving off a live feed.So while I'm on webcam 0 can basically change the saturation level while I'm on skype and go from live in color to live in black and white? Is there a rogram available to UBuntu that would allow me to do the same thing?SO that if I'm doing a live feed of my webcam I can basically change how much color I am in etc.I'm running ubuntu 10.10 if that matters
I'm doing ping between 2 RH servers through a VPN site2site tunnel and in some times I got in the result pipe 2 and another pipe 3 as I mark it in blue color below.
e.g.
64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=0 ttl=128 time=0.229 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=0.287 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=0.278 ms
[code]....
What's the difference between pipe 2 and pipe 3 and what's the meaning of it?
I'm looking for an mp3 file in the firefox cache folder.I was thinking I could run the command 'find -size +2M' and pipe that output into the 'file' command to tell me which is an mp3, something like thisfind -size +2M | fileBut this doesn't work, what am I doing wrong? This is output Usage: file [-bcikLhnNrsvz0] [-e test] [-f namefile] [-F separator] [-m magicfiles] file...file -C -m magicfilesTry `file --help' for more information.
We're in the final process of building a home, and I had them setup a wiring box where all the coax and cat5 terminates into one closet, which will also house my server. Once we get moved in I'd also like to add speakers in each room to have house-wide music, and ideally I'd like the audio to also run into this box with the master input coming from the server as well.My thought was to setup the server with some basic desktop manager like Fluxbox and use that to drive audio throughout the house, whether it be Pandora, Sirius Radio, or whatever. Since the server will be headless I'll need it setup so we can remote into it from our laptops, but I wasn't sure if VNC or some other RDP variant would work. Ideally we'll need to access a unified desktop so traditional terminal services where each users gets their own desktop might not be ideal
